The California Sunbounce Sun-Sniper "Steel" Camera Strap (Black/Black) is designed to help you carry your DSLR or compact camera comfortably, but always ready to shoot--so you'll never miss a photo again because you're fumbling for the camera. It includes a steel wire to prevent theft--insurance for up to $500 (included) covers you in the event that you lose a camera due to the strap being cut. A durable, comfortable shoulder pad made from ballistic nylon, and diagonal weight distribution make carrying a camera around all day a joy instead of a chore (even with a telephoto lens). The strap is adjustable from 10" to 63"--your camera hangs diagonally over your shoulder, just below your waist, so it takes only a split-second to bring it up to your eye, and you can move through crowds and narrow alleys without your camera bumping into anything (or anybody).

Didn't realize how useful it really is
I bought this strap because I didn't like having a camera strap rubbing against my neck all the time. I'm used to carrying messenger bags, and this strap seemed pretty secure.
I bought this strap because I didn't like having a camera strap rubbing against my neck all the time. I'm used to carrying messenger bags, and this strap seemed pretty secure.
It was easy to adjust and attach to the camera. I was originally unsure about using the tripod screw to attach the camera, but was impressed by how solid the connection is. The screw has a rubber washer that compresses against the camera body (it will not scratch it) and this keeps the screw from unscrewing from the camera body. The clip that this attaches to spins freely so any twisting motion applied to the camera or the strap isn't transferred to the screw.
The ergonomics of the strap are good: the shoulder pad is comfortable and stays in place most of the time. Unlike the Blackrapid straps, it does not have a camera stop that sits behind the camera to bring the shoulder pad back into position, but I didn't find this to be as big a deal as some people made it out to be because the clip slides easily along the strap and doesn't move the shoulder pad much.
The shock absorber is not as elastic as a bungee chord, but you wouldn't want it to be either. The camera doesn't bounce or swing when I walk, staying pretty snugly against my hip.
Though I can't say how the steel wire performs in a theft situation, I can say that it does not hinder the performance of the strap and is quite flexible. Aside from the psychological assurance it offers, as a mechanical engineer, I know the strength of steel wire know that it can probably withstand cutting from a normal pair of scissors or pocket knives. That being said, if someone really wants it, they'll probably find some way to take it.
I think an accessory pocket for camera cards would be handy, but I'm not pining for one at the moment. The most major problem I have with it isn't a problem with the strap but with my main lens - it creeps to full extension whenever I have it on. The pad is a bit bulky when I put my camera in my bag. For people who use tripods or monopods, it is a pain to have to undo the strap every time you use it.
Overall, it is a good strap if you like carrying your camera to the side and do quite a bit of walking. It isn't good for people who often use tripods or monopods.

I bought this just before a 14 day trip to Europe. I like the position that the strap places the camera in. Unfortunately the strap did not work as well as advertised. I used the strap with my D7000 and an 18-135mm and a 300mm lens. Walking along, the shoulder pad would shift forward or backwards so I had to keep adjusting it. Each time I raised the camera the strap would rotate instead of the camera sliding on the strap. So again I kept having to pull the padded shoulder part back onto my shoulders from my back. I had to disconnect the strap a number of times to use my tripod mount and then by the 10th day the rubber grommet that fits between the strap and the camera was missing. Overall, great concept, but it just did not live up to my expectation.

This camera strap is built to last a lifetime....
Though I find it a little uncomfortable after a long day ...as the cushion
is bulky and very firm unlike some other brands.
If you want security this is the best strap you can buy otherwise
if you want comfort check out some of the more affordable brands.

With a Canon 7D with a battery pack attached and on top of that when my Sigma 50-500 or my Sigma 120-400 is also attached your in for back pain and sore arms.
The sun sniper attached the weight is spread to the upper torso and make it easier to spend 4 to 5 hours taking pictures of airplanes at KFLL.
Great buy I recommend it.

I use this for attaching my long lenses at airshows and for everday photo treks. It adjust comfortably and has a well padded shoulder strap. The steel cable in the strap ensures nobody can steal your rig when it is around your body.

I bought this strap about 8 months ago (it was almost $90 bucks then!!) and it's OK...Not great...Not bad..but OK. The padding slides up/down all the time and can be a pain while carring a 2nd rig. It does the job, but there are other straps out that I feel are a better buy & honestly cheaper...If I were to get another cross-body type strap..I would get the R-Strap instead.

I am not happy with this strap because the metal clasp broke causing our Nikon D700 to fall on the floor and crack. Now it is in repair and we are looking at a $300.00 repair bill due to the straps metal clasp giving out. Luckily, the 85mm on the camera was not damaged. Initially, we loved the comfort of the strap and the freedom to move around. I did notice that the strap no longer has the metal clasp connecting it and that may be due to other cameras suffering the same fate.

I have only used this strap for a couple of days but the camera is very easy to carry and is immediately ready for use. Also it feels safe to carry your camera knowing it can not be cut of the strap.

Comments about California Sunbounce Sun-Sniper "Steel" Camera Strap (Black/Black):
In addition to this strap's being uncomfortable, the arrangement whereby the camera hangs upside down due to the use of the tripod mount as the connector is disconcerting and, possibly, dangerous to the camera. Tripod mounts aren't designed for that kind of stress; plus, every time you want to use a tripod, guess what you've got to do? I found that I could insure my new Nikon through a rider on my homeowner's insurance policy for a fraction of the cost of this "theft-proof" strap. I returned it immediately.

Comments about California Sunbounce Sun-Sniper "Steel" Camera Strap (Black/Black):
I've had this strap for a couple months now, and I'm a big fan. I've used it on my Nikon with 18-200 lens, and it's amazingly comfortable, both doing street photography and on some pretty remote hikes so I can be prepared for quick wildlife shots (last weekend included a moose and her calf, a griz and three cubs, and several eagles). The positioning is perfect by being out of the way yet still readily accessible when needed. It's easy to squeeze through crowds, as the camera is no longer protruding from your chest, and it's not swinging from side to side when on longer walks or hikes. It does usually require a steadying hand due to the way it hangs, but that's a small price to pay for the benefits.

Comments about California Sunbounce Sun-Sniper "Steel" Camera Strap (Black/Black):
I highly endorse this product for all photographers who need to walk around and/or who need to wait patiently for certain photographic moments such as at weddings, parades, etc. The strap is long enough to fit me (I am 6'2") and the camera hangs comfortably in the small of my back when not in use, even with external flash and battery grip. It attaches to the bottom of the camera (on the tripod mount) via a small rotating bearing that slides along the strap. It is very convenient. When the moment arrives, you can quickly and easily position the camera to shoot.

I used this strap to haul my camera and 18-200 lense all over Europe. It was perfect! Very easy to adjust and wear. No neck strain. Cannot believe I waited so long to dump the standard strap. Wish it had a small pocket to hold battery and card.

I am now able to use two cameras and not worry about someone stealing the one note being used.
This Strap allows the camera and lens to hang by my side and it doesn't bind or snag when being brought into use.
The only problem I see is you have the undo the strap from the camera to use a Tripod.

Comments about California Sunbounce Sun-Sniper "Steel" Camera Strap (Black/Black):
I carry a Canon 5D Mark II, Canon 70-200 f/2.8 L USM Lens, and a Canon 580 EX II flash when I'm shooting events. I sometimes carry a second camera (another strap) as well.
I no longer have a painful neck at the end of a long shooting day. Also, I don't continually bang the camera(s) against things as I move around, I can sit down at a table to grab a bite to eat, and can even drive without removing the cameras.
I thought about giving the strap four stars because it tends to rotate around so that the padded part of the strap is down by the camera instead of up on my shoulder. Maybe some non-slip material on the pad would help? This is a minor problem overall, so I still gave this strap 5 stars.
