Comments about Samsung SMX-F40 Digital Memory Camcorder (Black):
I was very excited to grab this camera from [@], but now I think its going back.. a second time. Bought an 8GB Class 4 SDHC card, camera shut down every 6-30 seconds with a 'card too slow, record in lower resolution' message. Went out today and grabbed an 8GB Class 10 SDHC card, figuring going straight to class 10 would clear up any issues. WRONG! Even with the Class 10, minimum 10MB/s writing speed card, I still can't even record on Normal TV resolution without it [*] out within 30 seconds. I wouldnt recommend this to anyone, and this second Camera I exchanged for today is going back again. Ill have to exchange for another brand I guess.

My wife was looking for a gift for me, since I am told "I'm hard to give a gift to", and finally researched for weeks and chose the Samsung F40. The zoom is very powerful, battery life is good, sound is great and many features that NO one touched upon, such as noise reduced for the audio. However, the manual is not clear on the battery storage, which in a Lithn. should not be connected to the cam when not in use. Samsung customer was useless, since they outsource these so-called tech. (LOL). Batteries will slowly discharge in the cam. Simply keep them out of the ca. and when ready to use them simply connect them to the cam. [...]

Comments about Samsung SMX-F40 Digital Memory Camcorder (Black):
How can a device this tiny do so much?!? 52x optical zoom -- wow! Plus fast motion, plus still photos . . . amazing.
Controls are a cinch. Your index finger works the zoom, and your thumb works the record button. If you don't want to read the manual, you don't really need to -- just leave everything on auto. But if you do read the manual, you'll learn how you can have total control over your video recording.
I bought this camera to record high school Mock Trial tournaments. I chose this model because it works well in low light and low sound conditions, it's easy for students to operate, and it's cheap. It's also small, lightweight, and portable. It fits in a purse.
It comes in three versions -- the F-40 has no internal memory, the F-43 has some internal memory, and the F-44 has a lot of internal memory. I figured that, even with internal memory, I'd want to use an SDHC card, so I opted for no internal memory, which was cheapest.
But here's the problem -- if the SDHC card you're using is too slow, recording stops and you get an error message. When I bought the camera, I also bought a 16GB Class 4 card. It turned out that Class 4 is too slow. Nothing in the manual tells you this! I had to spend $80 to get a 16GB Class 6 card. Even so, during two hours of recording, the camera stopped once, leaving a gap. Anything faster than Class 6 is ridiculously expensive.

in my opinion this is the best budget camcorder. My roommate bought a much expensive standard definition camcorder but you can not tell the difference at first sight. i would definitely buy this again. Max price/performance!
