• In the case of monophonic audio material (solo voice, saxophone, bass guitar, etc.) the following edits are possible:

Rhythmic and Complex Material

• In the case of rhythmic and complex material, separation is according to beats, so if several notes (for example click and snare) sound on the same beat, they are available for editing in the shape of a single Melodyne "blob"
• For such "blobs", the following editing possibilities exist:
1. Modifying the pitch (relative)
2. Modifying the position
3. Modifying the length
4. Modifying the time path within the blob
5. Modifying the volume
6. Shifting the formant spectrum
7. Modifying the volume transition between blobs

Application Details

Time Stretching and Pitch Shifting

• Whether the material contains block chords (homophony) or parts that are melodically and rhythmically independent (polyphony,) the software is able to apply pitch shifting, time stretching and quantization to it in real time, while still retaining the original quality of the audio
• Note-based rearrangement and remixing of songs offer producers new creative options

Note Recognition and Correction

• The analysis of source material automatically takes into account the type of audio material, obviating the need for further programming
• For batch processing a set of files of the same type, the user can also create and store their own recognition templates
• Macros perform swift correction of notes that are out of tune or mistimed as well as providing for creative requantization

Perfect Timing

• Perfect timing is possible using a macro, allowing the user to progressively iron out timing irregularities or impose the rhythm of one track upon another
• The software moves the notes intelligently, even adjusting their length, guaranteeing unprecedented musical results
• Notes can be moved forwards or backwards in time manually until the timing is exactly as required

From Melody to Rhythm

• Edit very effectively not only vocals and melodic instruments but also rhythmic material
• From a short, stiff drum loop, for example, a vibrant rhythm track can be created in next to no time by cutting, copying and pasting beats
• The software's parameters allow for creating either subtle effect or extreme tonal variations, and anything in between

Global Intervention

• Stretch or transpose entire songs without compromising their sound quality
• Select parts of songs or individual beats, and transpose, move or copy them in their entirety to some other location
• Because Melodyne recognizes and separates the beats in audio material, all such procedures can be accomplished effortlessly and without little clicks or other blemishes being introduced along the way

Virtual Ensembles

• Implement a doubling or create a second voice with a few mouse clicks
• Thanks to the formant parameter, the transposed voices sound exactly like the original, unless, of course, a different character is required - ideal for creating a natural sounding choir from a single voice
• Or a brass ensemble from a trumpet part, or a string quartet from a violin

Sound Design

• The unique possibilities of Melodyne studio can be used not only for unobtrusive correction but also for drastic alteration and extraordinary effects
• With formant shifting, the sound of individual notes or entire samples can be subtly or else drastically colored
• Sounds can be time-stretch to such an extent that their tonal development is literally audible in slow motion
• Even with such extreme applications, the starting transients of the notes remain crisp and the sound soft and round
• Since it's possible to alter at will the tempo, timing and melody of sampled licks and phrases, suitable samples will always be at hand for any productions

Arrangement Editing

• Global tempo parameters in the Transport pane
• Intuitive tempo control using the "Auto-stretch" function
• Context-sensitive "Move Notes" feature
• Tempo/Time signature changes can be typed in quickly in the Bar/Time ruler

Recomposition

• User can copy, for example, only the pitches from one track to another, so that a percussion track follows the notes of a vocal part
• The detected notes - including precise data regarding their dynamics and pitch - can be output via MIDI and used to control a synthesizer or a sampler
• Provides endless and fascinating new possibilities for doubling, arranging and sound design
