Bought this camera this week.[...]Was debating between the DMCFH1 and the DMC FX 580 because the latter has manual settings. Chose the FH1 because it received better reviews for picture quality. The camera is really pocket size and well built. It's easy to use and has numerous features and scene modes. The Ai setting is amazing as well. I already own a Canon T1i so I was looking for a small point and shoot to carry with me all the time. This camera really suits the bill. It has 12 megapixels which is more than enough for a point and shoot. That's why I didn't go for the FH3 or FH20. With 14megapixels it's overkill especially with a small sensor. Picture quality is awesome. So is the HD video. Wish it came with HDMI connectivity but what do you want for $160.00 You do need a class 6 SD HC card to shoot the video.I would recommend at least 8GB. It comes with a proprietary Panasonic battery. Backup batteries must be Panasonic. Don't buy a cheap substitute, they won't work.A good case is hard to find, but I was able to find leather one online.Overall, I think this an excellent camera for anyone just getting into photography as well as for someone who has a DSLR and wants a point and shoot to carry everyday. I highly recommend it.

At first look I thought this would be a nice little point and shoot just for snaps. For [$] dollars I didn't expect a pro level camera but I did expect a bit more than this camera can produce. Three big issues immediately jumped out. Flash was weak in anything but optimum light and distance. Time between firing the shutter and actual exposure was antiquated at best.Manual over and under compensation of exposure produced next to nothing in change.

I bought this camera for family use. Works great when we go to rock islands. Great pictures on sandy beaches. I'm not worried to bring it close to the water.

This is an easy to use, high quality camera. Great as your first digital camera, or if you just want very good pictures with no thought or work on your part. In my youth I was trained as photo journalist and had cameras with all the gadgets, lens, etc. Now I just want a small camera that thinks for me, this is the one.

Bought this for my parents to take photos of their grandchildren. Their last camera had a super slow autofocus and they keep missing shots due to the lag time. Powers up and shoots very quickly. There isn't much in the way of creative control but, quite frankly, some people dont need it.

This is my "always with me" camera...
1) Use IA Intelligent Auto 99% of the time
2) Set Picture to VIVID
3) Shoot as low-ISO as light allows (or, just set "Auto"
Terrific pics!

Bought this for my sister. I was impressed, since I am a Canon Guy, I got her something different. Overall the camera is small lightweight and takes pretty good pictures. Low light pics are not that great. The noise level is high in semi dark rooms etc..

I got this camera for my wife. It is super easy to use and the image quality is great. It has more mega pixels than my $1000 Nikon D80 but it only cost about a tenth!
Of course its not a DSLR but it is a great camera to have as a back up or to carry around in your pocket.
Pros: Great image quality. Good video, good stabilization. Very affordable
Cons: The shutter is slow as compared to a DSLR but not slow compared to other point and shoots.
I recommend to anyone. Panasonic makes great little cameras.

I shot some pictures at 12MB, ISO 1600, and I couldn't make out the details very well.
I guess for low light it's almost useless.
Also wondering why there's no user guide with indepth instruction.

[...]Camera is very easy to use for my wife. Compact size to carry around and takes great pictures. Hope the battery last as long as they claim of taking 300 pictures. The 5X zoom is nice feature instead of 3X.

I love the numerous modes, I love the color, it captures the moving objects great, it does stabilize the image good! it's very light, extra slim, that was the purpose - to buy a good, but tiny camera to carry always with me. Couldn't beat the deal either for [$] :)

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-FH1 Digital Camera (Black):
I use this camera for taking basic souvenir-pictures of things I see - a use for which it works great. The photos may be only average (they're definitely not bad, though), but the optical image stabilization; acceptable 720p HD video; and 5X optical zoom, rather than the more common 3X, make it much better other cameras at similar price points. Additionally, the shutter lag is relatively small.
There are only two things that are somewhat annoying about the FH1. First, my pictures of buildings (or landscapes) with sky in the background ended up washed out (the sky and edges of the building were completely white). This can be almost completely fixed by focusing on pure sky, then moving to the shot you want, but it's annoying. Second, the images in the LCD aren't as smooth as they could be. When I move the camera, the image in the screen jumps along rather than flows. This is definitely tolerable, it just makes the camera feel a little cheap.
There are of course far better cameras available, but any model which match this one's features will cost at least 50% more. If you're casual users, this camera should be completely adequate, and will save you money.

I really like the short like time, because i am casual photographer who like to take picture on the moment, .. it's very interesting to be able to switch on this product in few seconds, and take a picture.
