I am a serious photographer but don't always want to carry a bag of equipment with me! My grandson won his pack pinewood derby, and got to go to the district meet. I decided that instead of wagging around camera, lenses and other photographic stuff, I wanted to be able to catch snapshots of his race. I have an excellent point and shoot aps camera - but I couldn't get film in route to the race, so I was stuck with a disposable camera and a cell phone camera for his event.
When I got home, I immediately began looking for a point and shoot digital with a good zoom for snapshots. After pouring over reviews for more cameras than I care to mention, I ran across the FH20. The 8x optical zoom, fast auto focus, image stabilization, HD video, and a large selection of scene modes convinced me to give it a try.
I am very pleased with the camera for point and shoot snapshots! I found a wallet type case for it, and I keep it in my purse at all times.
It takes great shots of the grand kids playing - the auto focus is fast, the facial recognition feature is spot on, The sport mode is great for catching the kids running, jumping and playing. The battery life is good for around 300 shots.
I can catch good shots of the kids special events without having to carry (and babysit) a load of gear.
Because the camera was selected for a specific purpose, and met all of the criteria I had established prior to purchasing, I have no complaints. Panasonic's description of the product was informative - and the camera more than meets my expectations.
If you need a lot of control - stick with the dslr, but if you want the convenience of getting good shapshots while being able to participate in an event or activity - you can't beat it.

I took this camera to Kona messed around with most of the settings. Great pocket camera but I wish I would have brought my other camera for certain shots. Needs more nightime features but over all easy to use and does well in a pinch.

I was hesitant about switching to a digital camera. I have used a 35 mm for many years. When I decided to get a new camera I did quite a bit of research to make sure I got the best camera for my money. I discovered the Lumix DMC-FH20 was the best recommend small digital camera. After I received it and learned to use it I was even more pleased than I thought I would be. The instructions are easy enough that even a "dummy" like can operate the camera and take good photos or videos. Makes me wonder why I was so slow in converting.

Small compact camera. Takes very good quality pictures. Simple to use in auto mode. Other modes are also simple to use if you pay attention to what you're doing.

Nice camera but a little slow on the first shot. Not the grab and shoot like my olc compact 35mm. That 1srt shot takes as long as my Nikon D40DSLR. The lack of a view finder doesn't help, especially in bright light and snow. I thought that my preference for using the view finder on my Panasonic cam corder and the Nikon was simply because that was what I was used to. Not so. Using the LCD screen slows me down, particularly in very bright conditions.

First the positives(which is the majority of this review): The overall image quality is crystal clear and sharp. The zoom is fast and accurate. The macro capabilties are great and it focuses in a cinch. Having the option to shoot in in burst mode is great as well and catches virtually every movement.
The only con for me is the low-light sensitivity. I bought this camera mainly as an alternative to carrying around a clunky DSLR to smaller, intimate concerts. I tried this out at a small gig in a bar with very little lighting, and bumped to ISO to max, but couldnt get anything useful. Oddly enough, the images werent as noisy as you'd expect with high ISO, but they looked blurry from slow shutter and very red.Granted, I tried this out in an extreme low light situation, so I can't blame the camera totally for this. I did take it outseide and took some shots that came out pretty nice with the street lights so it's not all bad. I was just hoping for more in this respect. All in all, this is a great little camera for everday shooting..very user friendly and the price is practically a steal. If you're in the market for a quality point&shoot without going broke, this is the camera for you.

The FH20 is a great little point and shoot camera for everyday photography. I can use it in almost every situation I'm in, and the range of zoom from Macro - 8x makes it a versatile and handy tool for capturing memories. The navigation buttons feel a little bit stiff and cheep, but the layout is good. Overall, I'm pleased with the FH20

This little camera is easy enough for my 7yr/old cousin to use. I was able to show her how the auto mode select button (right next to the capture button) works, and she has become a total pro at shooting in every situation. The zoom is quite impressive for such a small camera. Thanks to that, we spent a wonderful day shooting squirrels in the park!

Bought this for my in laws who have zero experience with digital photography and they found it quite easy to use. I tried it several times myself and found it very intuitive but I would have liked to see a faster way to switch to movie mode (there is a designated "mode" button in which you can select it from a scroll down menu but this could have been the "REC" button). The screen is big and bright and the zoom is pretty good.

I bought this camera to bring with me to study abroad in Hong Kong. I've taken it to dances and took pictures of city-scapes at night. You need to play around with the settings a bit to get city scapes in excellent quality but pictures taken at parties with very little lighting come out great. All the pictures are vibrant and perfect plus the camera is sleek and easily fits in your pocket. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to invest in a high quality point and shoot camera.

I needed a camera that would point and shoot but had an extra punch. I was taking a 16 day horse back ride trip into the country. I really needed something that would zoom and capture nature on the fly. This lived up to all that it said that it would do. Great pics while riding on the back of mule says a lot it also continued to work after we were both thrown off.
