Sony HXR-FMU128 Flash Memory Unit
The Sony HXR-FMU128 Flash Memory Unit is an optional recording device designed specifically for the HXR-NX5U camcorder. The unit enables the ability to record to two devices simultaneously, (drive and SD card) realizing an instant backup in the desired format. Additionally, the device is capable of recording exceptionally long run-times; in FW mode (24Mbps), the HXR-FMU128 can record an incredible 11 hours of footage without offloading.

- The device is capable of simultaneous recording of HD and HD video footage, along with the combination of HD and SD, realizing an instant backup in the desired format. The 128-GB storage capacity provides continuous recording for almost half a day at the highest bit-rate. Incredible in a unit of such compact size. This is an ideal option for recording music festivals, seminars, and weddings, and documentaries; all of which require extended recording times.

I am a professional videographer I shoot weddings/music videos/ corporate work, etc.
This product works along side my Sony HXR-NX5U. It is the best accessory the camera has. It allows you to record 11 hours of 1920x1080 HD 30p at 24 mb/sec. Need I say more? The content is easily ingested into Premiere or Final Cut with the click of a button. Makes turn around time into post a cinch!
I have had absolutely no problems with the unit. However, I have heard that there are buffering issues when utilizing an SD card at the same time as the unit. However, I have yet to experience this myself.
For the money this is absolutely the best way to go in my opinion if you want tapeless work flow!

I can't imagine working my Sony NX5U on SDHC cards alone. The FMU128 was a must buy in my mind and with its ability to record over 900 minutes of HD footage, I would buy this unit again in a hearbeat!

Great Unit. Seamless integration with the HXR-NX5U camera. All info shows up in camera viewfinder plus ability to playback any clip and powered by camera.
Worth it to have the peace of mind of dual record in conjunction with the SD cards for safety backup. I wish the Sony full size cameras would have a fully integrated flash drive like this.

All I can say is WOW! This is so simple to use and it is really all I need in my camera. Just connect it to the camers and it's off and running and the same goes for downloading to the computer. Just plug in the cable and it's there! all you need to do is select the clips you want and that's it.

I use to be nervous relying on a days shoot to be intact on the tiny SD cards. This allows me to record to two devices at once on my FS100. It's expensive and I'd expect more space for the price but in the end I'm getting paid to use my camera so it's worth it for the peace of mind.
Now it's my SD cards that are acting as the back-up drives and the FMU transfer alot faster than the Transcend Class 10 SD cards I use so it saves me time.

I purchased the NEXFS100. Incredible camera.
I love shooting on and wrangling the SD cards. However I needed a dependable and reliable back up device. I struggled with the different HD devices, then, at the last minute, I went for it! I purchased the HXR FMU128. I used it on a shoot for Kraft Foods and WOW! Totally incredible back up system for my camera. I had peace of mind, a light weight device that attached internally to the body and very simple to use. Worth the cost. Thank you SONY!!

No issues, I have used on 4 or 5 shoots, came close to filling the entire drive on one project w/out any issues. One thing that wasn't clear to me was I thought you could access the drive for capture by plugging into camera USB port. For my Mac to see the drive, I had to disconnect drive from camera and plug directly into drive port. Minor inconvenience of unscrewing handgrip. Really beats working with multiple flash memory cards which I never felt completely safe with. Really glad I bought this drive.
