If you are looking for an entry level strobe, with plenty of power, this may just fit your bill.I found the Elinchrom, a highly regarded manufacturer of strobe lighting and accessories to be of great value. The manageable size makes it easy to carry around, as I tend to use it on location with a 110V battery pack (although it can be used on universal voltages as well). It is packed with great features including a photo sensitive trigger to flash off your existing flash, synch cable input, and nice digital readout to power you up and down in a 5 stop range. There is a 3 choice modeling light, and audible "recharged" beep. Recycling is acceptably fast, even at full pop.Color consistency is acclaimed with Elinchrom, and this entry level model holds up to that reputation. The only negative I have found so far, and I was aware of it when I purchased, is that although the D-Lite can be remoted triggered via either the Elinchrom Skyport system, Radio Popper JRx system, or probably others, you cannot control the power output remotely. You will have to go to the light an power it up or down as required. But for only [$], I can't complain, as I now have a great, well made studio type flash that I use on location that has sufficient power, in non-bright sunny days, to put some quality light onto my subjects.

I bought this product for portrait work outdoors because it was lightweight and cheap. I already own an alien bee, so wanted to try Elinchrom. The light quality was good and like the digital power setting. The first problem was with the product overheating all the time, especially with the modeling light on. It can sometimes take up to 5 min for the unit to recycle once overheated.
Second problem was the ring lock is made of plastic, and so it will not hold my 5' photoflex octobox. It just snaps right off. After a couple times of it snapping, it won't hold anything now, except for a reflector, ro something very light.
Overall, totally dissatisfied, wish I could return it, but am overseas now.

Comments about Elinchrom D-LITE4 IT 400Ws Monolight (90-240VAC):
Was considering this flash over many others in the market. Thought slightly more pricey than its competitors, it justifies the price. The built in receiver is a joy to use and the color output is very consistent. I have own a few other cheaper china made models and none could compare with the color. After trying, I bought another two D-Lite 4 to compliment the set.

Comments about Elinchrom D-LITE4 IT 400Ws Monolight (90-240VAC):
At first I was surprised at the compactness for a hand with this product.
I was surprised to test photometry next in certainty of the control.
A steering wheel part has a spare fuse built-in. I think that it is a smart product.
I think certain and that it is the sufficient product that trust is possible.

Comments about Elinchrom D-LITE4 IT 400Ws Monolight (90-240VAC):
Bought this to compliment new set of BX500Ri's as hair/background light, most excellent! Previously used older version of D-Lite4s, the newer "IT's" with built-in Skyport work great!
Construction not as good ad BX & RX series, but less expensive of a monolight and still better than previous D-Lite series.

I bought this strobe to add to the D-Lite-4 Kit and just like the kit, this is an excellent strobe. Light quality and evenness are excellent. It works flawlessly (wireless) with the kit.

Comments about Elinchrom D-LITE4 IT 400Ws Monolight (90-240VAC):
I have two D-Lite 4's and they are a little flimsy, this new one is much better construction, although it would benefit from an improved locking mechanism for the light modifier.

Comments about Elinchrom D-LITE4 IT 400Ws Monolight (90-240VAC):
I could not ask more for the price. I'm not sure of the exact weight, but it does not seem that much heavier than my 580ex. Great for locations shooting. It's fast, and the "smart" cooling fan does the job. The only thing that I would like to see is a metal base which attaches to the light stand.

I have been using the Elinchrom lighting system for 15 years and recently started using this D-lite system.
a plus for this lights is definitely the price!
unfortunately using on a real studio shoot all day 4 D-lite4 i had mixed results, not what i was use to the EL and BX series.
1. to often the recharge will get stuck and stooped working until a fiscal ON-OFF was performed. that made the shoot more about paying attention to the lights working then my subject
2. some lights had charged BIP sound defects.
3 FAN cooling is super loud.
all in all this units are not so reliable , get the BX or other, they are fantastic..

Just got it today and everything works as described. The speed ring clips are plastic so care should be taken when mounting to reduce potential wear. It handles the Rotalux 90x110cm comfortably. The package comes with the head itself, sync cable and power cord. The reflector shown is not included.

This is my Elinchrom number seven Monolight.
Great value, very light and with remote triggering built in. A fine addition for supporting light, fill in, lighting an odd spot etc.

Comments about Elinchrom D-LITE4 IT 400Ws Monolight (90-240VAC):
We use in the studio with a 3'x4' softbox. The positives are the consistency of the light, it charges quickly and responds well. The biggest problem is the materials. The handle (which is a press fit plastic part onto a bolt head) came loose within a few months of use. Annoying, but not a deal breaker. The deal breaker is the use of any larger light modifier: the softbox has placed too much pressure on the plastic housing which has cracked to the point where the attachment bracket no longer secures the head.
We'll replace these units with another brand or move-up to the 'Ranger' line from Elinchrom.

Comments about Elinchrom D-LITE4 IT 400Ws Monolight (90-240VAC):
Although it may not be the best quality light you can buy from Elinchrome; for the price it serves as a great fill light for me in large venue locations when my two 600RXs from Elinchrom are just not enough..but that is just me, a set of these lights will be just fine for most photographers. They are fast, realiable, and are a great all in one purchase( because the radio is built in...very cool)

A great price for Elinchrom grade gear and a dramatic improvement over the first edition of these inexpensive lights. The build quality, a major issue with the non-IT edition, has been fixed.
Very satisfied.

Comments about Elinchrom D-LITE4 IT 400Ws Monolight (90-240VAC):
I am very happy with these lights so far. I lead workshops and photo events and have used these light in three events so far. I normally run them at 1/4 power which is enough light for our model shoots. They get used very heavily for 3-4 hours during a shoot and I have had no issues.
Note: I have selected these lights for workshops because they are in the price range that most can afford. They are not the industrial build that you see in the high end elinchrom lights, however one can buy six of these for the price of say a Ranger Speed RX. I feel they are a good value and they work in nicely with my other Elinchrom gear.

I bought it to shoot products and food, it is a compact light, easy to carry and with good power.
Cons.:
the modeling light should be off most of the time because the fan works only when the heat is high and the light stops the firing until cold down.
For that reason I wouldn't recommend anybody buy this unit, better get a alien bees.
