I bought this camera because I have the Panasonic Lumix TZ1 and was very pleased with it's picture quality. I have only had this camera for two weeks - but so far I am very impressed again. After fours years I was looking for an upgrade, and this camera is definitley it - 12 X optical zoom and 12 megapixels.

Overall I like the features and flexibility of the ZS7, many are similar to the digital SLRs I use as primary cameras. I do like the wide angle - zoom lens.
I do have a few concerns, one major - the lack of a viewfinder. Even with the LCD display as bright as it will go it is very difficult to see well enough to frame shots out doors in any light. I will not purchase another camera without a real view finder. It seems to over expose most outdoor, bright sunlight, shots by a 1/3 to 1/2 stop.
Also, I cannot use the supplied "PhotoFun" software, it will not load in my PC, I get an error message every time I attempt to start the program. I contacted Panasonic tech support and they offered virtually no help, telling me my PC does not meet the requirements to run their software. But they could not tell me anything specific, just that I would have to contact my PC manufacture's TS department for help.
I currently run the latest version of all Canon's software and work extensively with raw and JPG images. I find it hard to believe my PC will run the Canon programs but not Panasonic's. As a result I must download images directly from the card in my PC's slot to my PC and then use Canon software to view and edit images. If I did not have other software I would be out of luck.

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7 (Silver) Digital Camera:
The camera is easy enough to use: I learned all the controls in less than half an hour. So far I've generally been happy about the picture quality; I tend to shoot at different resolutions depending on my needs, and switching is done quickly. My only gripe is that in low-light conditions, pictures taken in automatic mode without a flash tend to be exposed so it looks almost like daylight. I can of course adjust for this before taking the picture, but other cameras seem to handle this kind of situation better. I would also have liked to have a viewfinder - using the screen all the time does run down the battery much faster. I've had a couple of errors when transferring videos to my computer over the USB cable, but the problem may not have been with the camera. Most video clips have downloaded just fine.

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7 (Silver) Digital Camera:
I wanted a camera that was small and easy to carry in order to take pics of my child's activities. This camera has been exactly what I needed. I love the big, easy to use menu. I also love that that it's very simple to operate. I am pleased with the battery life as well. I was a little concerned about it having a short battery life, but I was able to use it off and on for about 5 days before charging. Overall, I'm very pleased so far.

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7 (Silver) Digital Camera:
...I found this camera to be a joy to use. I do shoot a Canon 5d Mark II but for much of what I do I find the big SLR to be bulky to carry. The Lumix DMC-ZS7 is the perfect compliment. Enough latitude to control my exposures as I choose to but enough "point and shoot" qualities to grab the spontaneous shot. High enough quality images, pretty good without flash in lower light situations and very convenient to carry with me at all times. For a pro I recommend this as the all-time carry everywhere camera that can produce clean results.

Photos and video clarity is awesome. Disappointed not more Mac friendly. Video does not go into iPhoto, but rather into iMovie.
Camera very user intuitive - every button where it should be. Easy to use. Fantastic zoom!

Since purchasing this product I have used it a number of times. I have found the zoom on the camera to be unreal. I went to a concert on the weekend and could get close up photos from at least 40 metres away from the stage. These photos were clear. People who I have shown the photos have made comments on how good the camera is.

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7 (Silver) Digital Camera:
I've only just begun to explore what this mighty little camera can do. Most importantly for me is the fact that it's quite user friendly since I don't have much of a memory for complex instructions. The images are crisp and clear in all kinds of light. I even experimented with pics and video of holiday lights at night. One disappointment is that I have to print out the Manual myself which I've not yet done. Looking forward to capturing the beauty of Spring on Long Island as I further explore the possibilities with this camera.

Generally an easy to understand and easy to use.Taking photos indoors with and without the flash, I found the pictures were occasionally out of focus and very grainy. Slow to focus and generally not satisfactory.I would have liked a 'scene' option for simple indoor photography. Outdoor photos were usually excellent. [...]

I bought this camera for my sister for Christmas. It replaced an older model Lumix that she had. She used it for the week that she visited and each time she used it, she found something else exciting that she could do with it. She also said that it was very easy to figure out the multitude of functionalities. The leica lens does not disappoint as it takes awesome pictures and video.

Comments about Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7 (Silver) Digital Camera:
First off, coming from a very old Panasonic FZ5. This thing is pretty darn small. Portability is a big plus for my needs. I don't like to dangle a huge heavy camera around my tiny neck and body. It wouldn't look right. The quality of the daytime pictures are superb. The night time pictures is a bit on the noisy side unless you adjust ISO and shutter speeds yourself. I have to admit the white balance is much better than I've ever seen. My original FZ5 takes bad pictures in any indoor lighting. I'm shocked to see how much this new Panny improved! The video is pretty darn good for such a small camera! The only issue is streaking in front of bright light sources, but I knew that before I bought this. Looks like the only way is to get larger CCD or CMOS sensor cameras. Flash is also a bit weak but what do you expect out of a PS?
Overall, I love this baby and I'd recommend it to anything looking for a portable Point and Shoot!
