I recently bought this camera for a family vacation to Cancun, Mexico. My primary camera is a Nikon digital SLR. It is important to note that this type of camera will not compete with the SLR for performance and image quality. As for fun, well that's a different story. I have had the camera for a few weeks now and have taken it to the water slides as well as Cancun. I throw it in my pocket and hang out in the pool or film video going down a slide. It turns on quickly and focuses quickly too. Pictures are very good but it does have a few duds now and then. We went snorkeling as well and I was able to take a lot of underwater video and pictures. I never got my other camera's too close to the water so it's really cool seeing the kids from water level or below. We reviewed the pictures and the video and the quality is very good. One feature I like is auto lighting when shooting video. I started a video above water level in the pool and lowered the camera under water and the light came on immediately and helped with the image quality (provided you're within a few feet of the subject). I use a 16 GB class 6 SDHC card which works very well. It gives us plenty of video and picture capacity for a weeks worth of travel. I like the camera very much.

When I purchased a 14 megapixel camera I expect to get a better image quality than a 9 megapixel. I purchased a Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 so I could take photographs underwater to 10 meters deep and use it in adverse weather conditions. Excited to upgrade to 14 megapixels I was disappointed when I compared side by side with my Fuji Finepix E900. I programmed both cameras at 80 ISO placed them on tripods next to each other and shot the same scenes. Although on the LED the Lumix looked better when I downloaded both camera's images and brought them up in Photoshop the Panasonic had halos around the high contrast areas such as a pine needle or leaf against the sky. Even the resolution in the continuous tone areas were not up to par with the Fuji E900. Do not buy the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 for anything more than underwater photography. Have a back up fair weather camera for landscapes and portraits even if the fair weather camera has 5 million fewer pixels.

I bought this to ski and to take to the beach.
Its very tough, seems unbreakable. The rubber protection that comes with it is very useful.
But its a very compact camera, with small lenses, so you cant expect awsome quality on your pictures. But it does perform very well, despite the size.

Takes decent pics, is fast and easy to manage. Haven't taken it underwater yet though...
Have to say the screen that pops up everytime you turn it on to "review" underwater precautions is extremely annoying.
Other than that, is great.

As a professional of 25yrs I had always meant to buy a little "snappy" to have on my belt but never bothered as I didn't think the quality was acceptable.. after seeing several people on the beach (where I mostly work) with the waterproof TS2 I thought it might be handy .. the camera has more than impressed me & is now a constant companion I have actually purchased 3(2 as gifts)the shockproof & waterproof design make this the perfect go anywhere camera when you don't want to carry the heavy DSLR's. For what it is & how it performs this is one of the best value buys available today!

I have shot some images and videos under the water.
it is A shock & water proof camera, so I carry this to fishing, camping, beach.
nice color so easy to find in the nature even if you lost.
easy operation too.
the only complain is the camera doesn't have regular USB port, so you have to use special type of USB cable provided by PANASONIC(included in the box)

I was looking for a camera that could go a lot of places. Owned a Canon ELPH 1000. Great camera, but I was always worried about it. Went diving in the Bahamas and wanted to take a camera snorkling. So I seached between the Olympus 8010 and the TS2. Decided to go with the TS2 based on price and other reviews. I am not a photographer, even on an amature basis, but I wanted a camera that was able to use quickly, easy to carry and store and took great pictures Everyone one with these big SLRs seems like a waste for what I wanted. I don't want to have to lug 20 lbs of camera around disneyland. I wanted one to pull out of my pocket quickly, take the shot, and put it away. My kids move to fast to wait to pull a big camera out etc.
Pros: Starts quick. Can zoom while taking video. (That's a great feature they never advertise, but once you have it you can't get away from it.) Comes with Silicon Skin which is great for grip and so it doesn't slide around.
Cons: Takes good pictures and video. But so far, I wouldn't say "great pictures". Menus are mostly easy to use, but not quite as intuative as they could be. Not "crush proof". It is shock proof for drops, but not crush proof.
We are testing this camera out to see if my father in law can take it to climb Mt Everest.
So far I like this camera. I would rate it a 8.5 out of Ten. Still early on.

High quality portable compact takes incredibly sharp pictures, high def video, rugged casing and waterproof to 33 feet. Great allrounder and perfect for travelling. Only possible downside is that it's a little chunky but I'm really picking holes here.

We bought this camera because it promised to be durable, waterproof and dust proof. It wore well in the dusty northern Nevada desert and proved right on all counts. If you take the time to familiarize yourselves with the basic instructions and functions, you'll find that figuring things out to be quite intuitive. The 32G SD card was more than enough to shoot high quality video and thousands of photos (many over 10 megapixels) at the Burning Man event. Its size made it unobtrusive and we could take professional grade photos in poor light conditions, without a harsh flash. Numerous features to discover, topped off by an unexpectedly good optical zoom. Great value on a camera we don't think will be obsolete in five years.

I bought this camera mainly it's waterproof for my trip to Hawaii (which hasn't happened yet). I wasn't expecting it would take nice pictures just like other cameras that aren't waterproof but I was impressed. Night shots are not the best, but definitely capture the essential. The pictures have great colors and are very vivid. I would definitely recommend.

So far, so good. I've only had the camera for a about a week, but already, it's been awesome. I love the download option of "email" so that you don't crash somebody's inbox. I've only just started ot explore all the options - hope to take video this weekend.

it's a no-fuse camera, good for simple and fast capturing of moments.
i bought this for 2 reasons: 1) it's weatherproof 2) it has a diving housing.
as expected, the camera is able to take photos in the pool, at the beach, etc. there's no worry about camera malfunctioning in the midst of fun.
and with its casing, i can now dive with the camera. pic quality is so-so, but it's my first time taking underwater photographer, and i'd think that i need more practice...and the fact that it does not have a protruding lenses, you won't get the problem of lens shadow...and after 2 dives of about 20m, i still have good battery life :)
overall, it's a good camera based on my first time use.

I haven't had it in water yet. But I love this camera!. It is so simple to use and the pictures are fantastic. The color and resolution can't be beat. The controls are easy and spaced further apart than most cameras this size. It is easy even with my arthritic fingers. The only negative is the battery life. (Although I was playing around with it testing it quite a bit.)

This camera is used with a underwater housing to Scuba dive with, it takes wonderful pictures as well as great HD video. With the software provided, you can edit still pictures even from the video, wonderful! The color even without a strobe was fantastic for a point and shoot. We will buy another after the first of the year, can't wait until next dive trip, this trip took video of whale sharks super!!!

Bought this for a two week vacation to Hawaii. The pictures of course were not as good as my slr but I would hope everyone would know that anyway. At first i was happy with the camera but after a few days(4) I was getting condensation on the lense. This made everything look foggy. After drying out of course it left water spots on the inside. Also it was not that easy to use underwater when snorkeling just wouldnt focus very well. Panasonic did tell me they would send me a new camera but who knows. I went with this one instead of the Olympus, bad call I guess.

This thing is tough. It feels solid and I feel very comfortable letting my kids play with it. My 4 year old figured out how to shoot pictures or movies and review captures in minutes.
Shutter lag is acceptable. I like the colors it renders. the 'natural' setting appeals to me. menu system is simple and intuitive. Movies look great (mac users may have decoding/editing issues with avchd lite)
It does not have the best image quality. The flash is weak. I find taking potraits at the widest setting at about 2 feet away provides the sharpest shots. Under ideal conditions you can get really nice images but compared to my other canon point and shoots it falls short. It is chunky and not the most pocketable.
But my other canon died under abuse and my slr is there for quality images. So for me I am happy over all with it.

I've been using it as a carry around p&s along with some video. It's super easy to use and I don't have to worry if my 2 year old picks it up and plays with it. I can use it for sport and activities all year round, no matter what the weather is like. A friend is using one of these for pov video footage that rivals any of the purpose made pov cameras, but has the advantage of being a great still camera as well. I haven't found anything I don't like about it yet.

I am very happy with this Lumix camera. I can go swimming with it and not worry anymore about the camera since it is also shock proof. It also takes the photo quickly, much faster that other digital cameras in this class. It is easy to use which is a big plus.
