Comments about Gateway EC1815u 11.6" Notebook Computer (Cherry Red):
The EC1815u is a very nice little computer … wonderfully small and light … perfect for hauling around. Just a tad bigger then most netbooks and oh so much more of a computer with the Core 2 Duo processor. I started off with the EC1433u which has a Celeron processor in it and felt it was underpowered and was happy to leave it with a friend in England so that I could replace it with this model … have been very happy with it as it has not felt underpowered at all. Not having a DVD player is one of the ways they made it lighter and I do need to remember to download movies via the web, network or thumb drive when I travel.
I do miss the home page up/down end keys on the right side as I use them a lot in navigating web pages … they are now on the arrows keys with the fn key to make them work … and the mute key is slow to mute, also a fn key combo … I could not find any info in the manual on how to use the fancy Multigesture Touchpad that they talk about a lot … finally found a tutorial on it after a lot of digging … put it in the manual! Even with these issues I would still highly recommend the computer.

Before I bought this laptop I had the same with less capacity, but it worked really good, I gave the 2GB to my mom and now I'm using the 4GB. It's a really good value.
And I love the lite weight.

Comments about Gateway EC1815u 11.6" Notebook Computer (Cherry Red):
After a great deal of searching for a lightweight machine that had some punch, I found this model. It is really fast, and the screen looks great. I have to get used to the keyboard, which is totally flat, with no gaps or contour. (My desktop Microsoft keyboard has concave keys that I can feel separately.) Sacrificing an internal DVD gives you a lighter and thinner laptop, and for me it's worth it.
