The Opteka 58mm 0.3X HD Ultra Fisheye Lens Adapter uses multi-coated, low-dispersion glass to produce crisp, high-definition video images. Great for dramatic effects and extremely wide fields of view--think sports, think dream sequences, think the HAL-9000 computer--this fisheye adapter screws onto the front of your existing camcorder lens and bends a 180° view into a peephole-style circle. Straight lines become curved, noses become bulbous, eyes become goggly, and objects in your viewfinder will be closer than they appear.

I was hunting for the fisheye lens for my GY-HM100 camera. The lens design on that camera is so funky, that it doesn't allow to easily change filters on it due to recessed lens. I used 46-54 and 54 to 58 rings, which fits very, very tightly into the space around the lens. This allows me to use Cokin filters with it. I was very disappointed with other lenses, like Raynox and Century Optics, as they really were soft. This lens softens the picture a tinny bit, but nothing noticeable at all. Also the CA is minimal, which is a great plus. It gives really wide field of view, making it great for action shots. The only downside I see is the weight, but it has a lot of glass on it and glass is heavy. But it is much cheaper and outperforms Century Optics, so no real complaints on my part.

Finally I found the lens (fisheye) for my JVC GY-HM100, that works. CA is minimal, and it doesn't soften the image on the outside. It's a heavy lens, but looks like a well built unit, at a very good price point. It's much better then other lenses, even from Century Optics.

I got this for my son to use with his friends as they video their skateboarding tricks. He's pretty particular about what he wants, and this lens exceeded his expectation.
He really likes the fisheye effect, and will proably try to get another spacer ring to increase that effect even more.

I film skateboarding and was wondering if this lens is comparable to the century optics mkII. I use it on a Canon GL1, and I tested the two lenses on a tripod. The Opteka gives just as much barrel distortion and is just as wide.

No decrease in picture quality, no vignetting (unless you want it, then you can add the spacer), very minimal blurring around the edges. Overall a fantastic fisheye for the price.
