I use this to film my sons football games and then burn a copy to DVD for the coaches.
I love the 35x zoom and the easy transfer to the computer. You simply take out the SD card and insert into computer. 5 min later (instead of an hour) your video is ready to be edited. The 3 second of 30 or 60 fps pictures are great at practice so that the coaches can pinpoint the exact thing the kids did wrong(or right)
The included software is not very helpful for burning to a standard DVD and since most of us don't have a blu-ray burner and schools dont have a blu-ray player, this is not helpful to me. I tried having the camera do the video conversion to MPEG2 and then my computer. My computer (Intel Q6700) won by a landslide. 2.5 hours vs 55 minutes.
The auto-windscreen doesnt help much either. Not a big deal for me but might be to others.
The battery life is not great but better than anything with internal memory. The dad next to me has a new Canon with 32 GB internal memory and his battery ran out in the 1st min of the 4th qtr.
This sounds like I don't like the Camera, I do like it and appreciate all of the extra features. I would say to get an extra battery to keep with you and a 16 GB card. My 16 GB card holds 3 football games with no problem.

I recently bought this camcoder. First of all this does not have any internal memory, so you have to buy SD card. That means around $50 for 16G card. Still image is not good. specs claim 5MP but it is worse than my 5MP still image camera.
Zoom is good, image stabilization is ok. I find that colors are not same as the object. they are slightly different then actual colors. 1500 digital zoom is good marketing feature but in reality it degrades quality and hence very limited used.
Over all it is very basic entry level HD camcorder. Good for home movies and b'day parties.

Comments about Panasonic HDC-SD60 High Definition Camcorder (Black):
Generally I use my SD-60 to record stuffs on travels. I also use it to record my baby son's precious moments. Generally it's a good product. And compared to my old sony one which uses minidiscs, this is so more convenient. Certainly this is not a fair comparison of apple to apple.
Pro:
1. Crispy video, especially when there is good light source.
2. ok indoor video. Under poor light condition, the quality is like VHS quality (or may be worse). Not ideal, but acceptable.
3. Good battery life. The battery lasts 1.5 hours or so under one charge. It sounded to be low to me at the very beginning. But when I actually started to use it, I realized I seldom do more than that on a single day. So I don't need backup battery on this.
Con:
1. As some pals mentioned, there is a noticeable color change when you move from a bright environment to a less bright one or vice versa.
2. When I hold the camera with the strip, it's kind of awkward to hit the record button.

Comments about Panasonic HDC-SD60 High Definition Camcorder (Black):
Camcorder should have a viewfinder, it's very difficult to use outdoors in bright sunlight, LCD screen can be set at maximum brightness which would cut battery life in half! IA mode is unpredictable. windscreen feature not very good, I use manual mode so I can disable it. Editing MTS video is a real headache unless you convert it to MPEG first. Batteries are too expensive, $55 to be exact!

I've been very pleased with the size and ease-of-use of this camera. It is used primarily for family and vacation use, and has so far performed admirably. I have heard that the camera will be better in low light if I switch out of HD mode, but I have not yet tried that.

Camera is exactly what i expected[...] The camera itself is a great entry level hd camera. Only downfall is that sometimes it takes the camera a few seconds to adjust to lower lighting, to get the color tones correct.

Have only tried it indoors, color accuracy is a bit off. When room is not very bright, video is also quite good (for my casual standard), but noise is quite visible. For this price and my usage, not really a complaint.
Battery life is good, small enough to put in my shirt pocket. Enough options to customize for diff settings. For this price and for someone shooting home videos with kids, this is the best camcorder I can find.

I purchased this for an upcoming wedding. I've tried it out and it performs well. Bought several 16 GB SD cards so I'm ready to shoot. Light and compact, zoom is good for this type of application. Bought an extra battery and a two year warranty. My friend saw it and wanted the information on it.

Bought it on the spur of the moment to take movies of New Years Eve in Times Square
The pictures and the movies are sharp and perfectly exposed.
I didn't know it would be so easy.
I'm very happy with it.
Should have bought a second/larger battery as I use it all the time now

Comments about Panasonic HDC-SD60 High Definition Camcorder (Black):
I selected the SD60 after a massive amount of research. Reading reviews can make you a bit crazy, but I really put in the hours and came up with this one.
Looking back I'm confident that I made the right choice for me. I'm a budding amateur photographer, but am fine with full-Auto video recording.
The SD60 has a flawless Auto mode plus some useful Scene modes (although I haven't yet used them). There's also a low-light setting as well as other manual settings.
The OIS is stunning in its effectiveness.
The size is perfect for my needs (which is toting around the kids' basketball, volleyball, soccer and lacrosse games as well as family trips).
The battery stays full of life for over 2 hours and I very much like having seperate memory (vs. a hard drive or flash). Just seems simpler.
There's "better" camcorders out there with more manual features, but I'll never use them so this is PERFECT. There's 4 HD settings and I use the highest one, "HA".
HA allows for one hour of recording on an 8GB SDHC card which fits nicely on a DVD-R Dual Layer 8.5GB blank disk. Knowing this might save you hours of trial and error.
I'm told that some quality is lost going through a computer so I'll be making my disks on a DVD burner. Some don't allow for editing, but I try to just record what I think I'd like to have on permanent record (kind of editing as I go). More tech-savvy people might choose other methods.
And I use optical zoom only which goes to 25x. Digital goes to 35x, then another (I forget) and there's even one for 1500x, but I haven't yet checked it out.
Anyway, a really good camcorder with stunning image quality. Probably ideal for most needs out there and I'd buy the same thing again.

I was looking for a reasonable priced HD Camera to create commercials for my company. The first camera I purchased was a Samsung camera which was HD and had all of that mumbo jumbo. When I went home to use it worked great, but when i went to upload my work i found that Samsung was not compatible with mac computers. So after returning it I looked for one online and came along this great, sustainable camera and haven't had a problem with anything about it yet. The HD is Crystal Clear, the Pictures are nice, clear and steady. This camcorder is everything I was looking for and more. It has a nice automatic light that will go on in the dark. The zoom is incredible up to 35x but i changed it to 25x zoom.(It seems to have a better quality that way). With everything said and done I highly recommend this camcorder for anyone looking for a great, reasonably priced all around device.

I did a lot of research on cameras and nothing beats the SD60 when it comes to quality, portability and price. The cost of flash memory continues to drop, so buying a Hard Disc bulky camera, doesn't make sense. With 1080 HD quality and 5MB pictures, this camera offers it all. I also opted to buy Class 6 Scan Disk 8GB memory... it works great for the 30 & 60shots/second feature that this camera has. I am very happy and will do business with B&H again.[...]

I've had this camera for a couple of weeks now and love it. It takes outstanding video that looks great on my HD TV. It's very easy to get up and running with it, and if you want to do more, the manual is easy to understand. The size of the camera is about as long as my outstretched hand, so it is very portable. Video in low light is quite nice. Battery life is at least a couple of hours, too. You could pay hundreds of dollars more for a HD camcorder, but I really don't think you'll get better video.

This camera makes for an excellent starter HD camera, but I don't recommend buying it if you're looking to get knee-deep in video editting and film making.
Great for quick home videos, quick start-up, easy to use and cute to look at, (wear cargo pants and it even fits in your pocket). Its got excellent optical zoom, so its good for long shots of landscapes, but i'm a little disappointed with the automatic light sensor, which isn't as reactive or precise as I thought it'd be, but you can adjust the settings manually to get the right setting.

I am an infrequent user, but I like this product and searched cnet reviews before purchasing.
Overall I'm satisfied with the quality of the photo and the features are just right for me.
I personally like to fade in videos and this camera does that; however, you have to set it every single time. In other words, I can't just leave it in "fade" mode for every time I want to video. Bummer.
I'm not a fan of proprietary batteries, but I didn't find any camcorder that used anything else. Unfortunately, the batteries for this camera are very expensive (up to $110 - which is 1/3 of the cost of the camera).
It doesn't have a built in hard drive and I didn't realize that before purchase. Probably not that big of deal for me, but I think it would've been nice.
Lastly, I assumed it would create files with the same structure as regular digital cameras do in movie move. This camcorder used achvd which I'm not so sure about.
