I'd rate myself as an intermediate level photographer, and while I've been participating in the "strobist" movement as of late (small hot shoe flashes) it was finally time to upgrade to some real studio strobes.I had initially planned on purchasing a set of AlienBees B800 units after doing comparisons between the B800's and the D-Lite4 kit. Well, after a long wait for some of the accessories I was hoping for from AlienBees (backorder issues) I came back to the D-Lite product listings only to discover the D-Lite IT units had finally been released. The specifications between the AlienBees and the D-Lite units are very similar. What finally pushed it over the edge for me is that the D-Lite IT units include built in SkyPort receivers. Since I already owned a SkyPort trigger and a set of Universal receivers, I had no other excuses to hold off on the purchase. In the past few days of using this kit, I can find very few complaints for the money, although I've only used borrowed AlienBees in the past so I don't have a great deal of experiences to make comparisons on.[...]The lights themselves are extremely lightweight, and feel sturdy even though they are made out of plastic. Operation is fairly simple, and my only steps to get up & running with the wireless trigger was to change settings on both of the lights to ensure that wireless triggering was enabled. This was no more complicated than changing dip switch settings, or digital settings in any hot-shoe flash, although I would have preferred a dedicated button/switch rather than having to navigate a menu system. The menu system is very simple, but I would never have stumbled upon it without having first read the manual. From the simple menu system you can enable/disable wireless triggering, specify triggering groups (1 through 4) and specify the radio frequency (also 1 through 4 - only compatible with certain Skyport triggers). In addition to using the built-in optical triggers, I was able to successfully trigger the lights using the included Skyport trigger as well as the EL-Skyport Universal Transmitter (which has a larger variety of frequencies avaialble).I should note that the light heads will also accept 1/8" (3.5mm mini-plug) connections if you prefer to use PocketWizards or CyberSync triggers). The two included soft-boxes were initially a little frustrating to assemble the first time because I was afraid to apply adequate force when inserting the metal frame rods, but after practicing a few times it now only takes me a few minutes to assemble each softbox.Personally my only complaints overall are that the built in radio receivers do not allow remote power adjustments, and that they only work on 4 possibly frequencies. Given that these receivers only make a minor change in the cost of the kit I have to rate these complaints as very minor.Overall I'm very pleased with this purchase and I fully expect to begin building on my collection with light modifiers and additional strobes as soon as my resources allow.

Like all the other reviews under me, this kit put's out a good quality light with great color values and it's great for On The Go. But I was very disappointed because Even though the kit is geared for newcomers to studio lighting, You can't get Tech support, [...] your OUT of luck... I give it 3 star because of no tech, pour instruction Manual, The tutorial DVD that comes with the kit is worthless. I think You'll be better off trying something else even if it's a one light system.

Very good flash kit with good diffusers. Only issue is that one of the flash head does not holds properly out of the 2 sets purchased

**Do not fall for all those cheap complete lighting kits they are pieced together with 3-4 different manufactures cheapest equipment. Spend the extra money and become part of a quality system; you will not be disappointed with this kit.**
I spent a fair amount of time doing my research before I purchased this lighting kit and I should not have second guessed myself so many times thinking there was something better out there.
Elinchrom really did their homework and designed this kit to work for the starter Photographer just getting into larger production while needing a powerful yet flexible strobe set. No, they did not pay me to say that. What I really like about this kit is, everything you need is in this kit and if you want to buy another Elinchrom light it will work with the built in skyport system. Another great option is to use it with your speed light's without having to buy more controllers to work with the system, the light has built in light receivers for firing in sync with your speed lights.
Even though this kit is cheaper than most of their other lights they did not shy away from quality in this kit design.
If you are looking at a "lighting system" for the first time then look no further than Elinchrom, this is a kit you can start with and grow as your photography grows.
My kit came with Manfroto tripods (keeps the price down) and they are nice and easy to use.

good lighting, light weight, but soft box assembly not easy, and radio transmitter NO OFF OR ON SWITCH, so if the battery insert, it always on.
portable without soft box assembly, flash recharge is not that fast.

This kit is a great way to solve lighting situations while you build up your studio gear. It is lightweight, easy to operate and effective. Quality is what you would expect from the manufacturers. The only thing I regret is not buying it earlier!

This kit is fantastic! I felt comfortable setting it up and taking down. The light stands are tall and sturdy. Both of the carrying cases are well constructed. My main concern as I was shopping around for a kit was wattage, this is a perfect range. The digital increments allows for a main light and fill light. In the future I will be adding another light maybe a little higher wattage from Elinchrom... you can never have too much. I am very pleased with my purchase.

Comments about Elinchrom D-Lite-4 IT 400Ws 2-Light To Go Set (90-260VAC):
I have been using the D-Lite04 IT 400Ws for several weeks doing portraits. The lights are excellent, they are powerful enough for group portraits, I have had up to ten people in a group. The lights are balanced, work consistently, are easy to set up and break down. The stands are sturdy and the variety of triggering options has come in handy. I would buy them again.

I use this for a home studio.
The package/kit value is excellent good for what you get (especially the wireless Skyport transmitter), sync cable - (dont think i'll ever need it), stands + softboxes. You can start working immediately you get this kit (if you are just setting up your studio)
The softbox is difficult to assemble. I have mostly used the strobes with a umbrellas / photek softlighter 46'.
You also get a strobe head case, and a light stand case.
The light stand case just fits the 2 light stands. I was hoping the softboxes would be able to fit in also but . . .

I use the studio lights in a small studio mainly to do portraits for source material for paintings -
they are light weight - easy to set up once you figure out the umbrellas - and take down - and fold nicely into their bags for storage.
there should be a little manual about how to put the pieces together - but if you think it through its pretty straight forward
I also love the sync system - although i wasnt sure how to properly turn it off so it wasnt always waisting batteries - so i remove the battery after each use

I had put off buying lights for many years because I just didn't have a place to leave lights set up all the time. I'm glad I waited. These are great and so easy to use. The first exposure I made was excellent. Everything is pretty intuitive but I recommend reading the instruction manual first. I can set up and tear down in about 10 minutes. Not being tethered with a sync cord makes working with these a pleasure. Lots of nice little extras are designed into this kit. These are a real good value.

I am very happy with this product[...] set up was easy and fast. Soft boxes were a little tricky at first but went together smooth. Break down was just as easy all but the soft boxes (still together). I may take them down one day just not today. Bags that it comes with is great. Over all I am very happy with what I have seen in the first day of use.One down side and I never would have found this out had I been stationed in the states. I bought this set for the dual voltage. I have 9 more months left in Germany before I return to the states. The system is Dual voltage but the modeling light is not. Yes I blew both of them in the first time of use. This is not a problem. I just thought that the entire system was dual voltage and I was wrong. minor set back. I still love it.

I use the product for shooting portraits, headshots, and full body images in my studio. The strobes work really good, and are quick to recover between each flash. So far i have not used maximum strengt of 400W, they give such nice and even light that smoothens the models face at around 300W and gives a great color value.
However, the slave i attach to my camera worked fien with my canon T2i, but not with my nikon D80, i have no clue as to why? I am still learning it.
I am happy i bought it.
