The FLEX DSLR Remote from Switronix is a patent-pending, handle-mounted DSLR remote that triggers HD video start and stop recording for Canon 5D & 7D cameras. The FLEX's unique gooseneck arm houses an optic that is to be positioned within line of sight to the remote sensor on the camera (transmits up to 3.28' (1 m) away, 135° coverage). Once positioned, the remote transmits a signal through the optic when the button is depressed. The arm can be extended up to 12" (30.5 cm) and coils down to approximately 3" (7.6cm) in diameter. The FLEX's all metal construction will stand up to the everyday rigors of HD DSLR video production and is powered by 2 AAA batteries (included).

Comments about Switronix FLEX DSLR Remote:
Purchased to use with Canon 7D to shoot video and activate the camera on/off.
The first one I purchased did not function so I returned it for a replacement.
The second on I received a few days ago was rusty, old and had the switches and wires hanging out of it. It looked like an old demo preproduction model.
I have not had the chance to use it yet since I still do not have a working unit. One is supposed to be delivered by Sept 28, 2011. I did notice that the cable was really short and it may not reach the sensor on the camera when it's mounted to the tripod handle by the shooting hand to trigger the camera.

Comments about Switronix FLEX DSLR Remote:
A great if not necessary product if you're flying a DSLR on a rig. No need to move your eye from the viewfinder to locate the record button. No shake to the camera. It's built like the proverbial brick sh....house so you know it will last but I expect further refinement to the electronics will allow for a lighter and more inconspicuous gizmo. Well done Swintronix!

Comments about Switronix FLEX DSLR Remote:
Attaches to pretty much anything, works as advertised. Some things to keep in mind: the snake arm is only 12" long, so if you have a large rig or tripod the arm may not reach. There is a red light on the unit that lights up to signal when you are pressing the button, but it does not act as a tally lamp and won't tell you if your camera is recording. When the battery needs to be replaced, looks like it'll take a screwdriver. The housing feels very sturdy and the case is brushed metal. The button has a nice solid feel to it as well. The box seems kind of bulky and large considering the size of Canon's little remote, I wish Switronix could have made this thing smaller. The bracket system used to secure the unit to tripod/rods on the back of the unit sticks out a little bit (1 1/2 inches) so this may limit where you're able to put it, and I'll probably catch something on it sooner or later. Overall, I'm very pleased as this remote puts start/stop right where my hand is anyways - on the tripod - instead of an obscure location on the back of the camera.

Works well on my Redrock Micro rig. I no long need to move my hand to stop and start my 7d during recording. Cuts back on a lots of Shake at the start of each clip. All so acts as a good spot to rest my hand when using the follow focus.

Handy for handheld operations
Funny that it works off the IR sensor from the grip of the camera, goose neck can move if it gets bumped having to re-align to make sure a signal can be passed. So check every time you're not rolling.

Comments about Switronix FLEX DSLR Remote:
Requirement of "Direct LOS (Line of Sight)" is quite literal and strict. Perhaps I need more practice with it, but have to walk pretty close to get the signal through at times. Works with the T2i, 550D as well.
The built in clamp at the back makes it a little bulky. Is it detachable?
Solid Construction, built like a tank.
