IT COMES WITH AN OPTICAL TOSLINK CABLE (5ft), even though bhphoto and Gefen say that officially its not listed in the "In the Box" list.

The power is 110-220 volts, and has all of the adapters necessary for using world wide, USA, England, Europe/Asia/Middle east, Australia/New Zealand - Amazing !

Plug and play set up - very easy.

I just bought an LG plasma TV I use it to watch downloaded content. It has a USB connector and my TV can play Blueray videos! The TV only has optical sound output which isn't very useful if you want to use analog stereo speakers.

I wanted to connect the TV to my amazing Bose Companion 5 system (made for computer speakers) via the auxiliary stereo jack provided on the Bose speaker.

So i need to convert from the optical toss-link to the RCA stereo analog. This converter did a great job, and Bose said that i should get the simple Gefen version and not the special Dolby Digital (which is much more expensive) since Bose "synthesizes a proprietary TruSpace digital circuitry 5.1 effect from the stereo signal when the aux input jack is used".

To connect from the Gefen RCA output to the aux input in the Bose jack i used male-male 'Y audio cable'.

Works great !
Also there is no popping sound reported by others when changing channels, since i'm not channel surfing just watching off the USB external hard-drive plugged into the TV.

I am an old school 2 channel stereo guy and I just purchased a 1080p HDTV. I had my old TV hooked up to my stereo via the headphone jack and RCA connectors. The new TV only had optical out for audio and I was bummed out to the point of returning the TV for one with RCA audio out. This component solved the problem!

The only negative is that the instructions don't tell you to take the plastic caps off the optical connectors. Fortunately enough people had the same problem so my solution was on line. The added hassle could have been avoided with a simple instruction.

Somethings are hard, some easy. I have an older flat screen TV that doesn't have an optical digital input but standard RCA left and right audio input. Apple TV has only optical audio output. So, the Gefen adapter fills the bill and is easy to connect (or would be if all those cables weren't stuffed in the cabinet). My only annoyance is having to find another power outlet to plug the adapter in.

I Wanted to convert the optical audio output of my sony HD TV to a analog receiver and mixer. all i got was a faint signal and it did not work.
You have to get the DDs model to output 5.1 for almost 100 bucks But the reviews say that it gives off a pop that can blow your speakers.

Provides a nice clean signal from my TV's digital output to my stereo receiver. I feel it's a little pricey but not many other options out there, and it does its job well. Please note it comes with its own optical cord, don't buy a separate one!

I give only one star for no fault in the product that I can see. I simply have not been able to hook it up yet, though I''ve tried. The problem seems to be in my amplifier, not in your product. I'm going to try again, at length, tomorrow, with a substituted amp. Exactly the same is true for the digital-optical cable. Thanks for asking, and I'll be in touch. RSB

I have owned both the Gefen GTV-DD-2-AA and EXT-DDIGAUD-2-AAUD optical digital to RCA audio converters. I used each of these products to connect my TV, with optical digital audio output, to my vintage surround system. Both converters had the same problem. When the sound signal was interrupted (ie. change TV channels) the converter stop working. Audio could only be restored by removing power from the converter, then reconnecting it. This is a great idea, but these products are not ready for the consumer market.

I bought this adaptor to convert a digital audio send from my house to my recording studio into unbalanced stereo line out. Needed to do this to get the audio in the right format for my Canopus DV A/V converter to encode Tivo A/V into DV format going into the Mac via Firewire. My Tivo's analog output connector had quit working, which is why I needed to do this and this was the simplest solution. Side benefit is that it breaks a ground-loop I have between the two rooms.

Converts optical audio out to analog for use with older stereo systems. A must for the newer Flat Screen TV's that only come with optical audio out now.

I needed something to allow me to connect my PS3 to a gaming chair with analog inputs. This was an inexpensive way to do it without a sound system and it sounds great. The adapter comes with a digital cable and the power supply and is a great value. I highly recommend!

[...] Never having used an optical output we had problems getting it to work. Finally called Gefen Tech. He said have you removed the caps on both ends of the Toslink?No, we hadn't. When we did we finally got it towork. I'd suggest a sticker be put on the Toslinkenvelope to remove end caps before installation.

Bought this to convert digital audio out from a Viera TV to RCA audio. Didn't work, as the audio is Dolby encoded (that info buried on pg 47 of the TV manual, not listed in TV specs online).

Traded up to more expensive model that does Dolby decoding. However, when changing channels or whenever digital signal is lost then restored, a very loud pop is sent to the speakers. This blew the foam surrounds on both my Advent speakers. They were old, so I guess it is to be expected, but digital electronics should not send high-amplitude pulses capable of damaging equipment.

I will be returning the item and letting Gefen know about this problem - I am definitely not happy.
