With the Kenko Teleplus PRO 300 DGX 2x AF Teleconverter full autofocus (AF) functioning is possible with lenses having a maximum aperture of f/2.8 or brighter. Having 2x magnification, the Teleplus PRO 300 is constructed of 7 multi-coated elements in 4 groups and allows a depth of field 1/2 of the prime lens used and retains the prime's minimum focusing distance.
The Teleplus PRO 300 has genuine Gate Array IC, which means that not only the converter's own data but all data sent from the camera body provide full exposure metering and electronic flash photography.

Comments about Kenko Teleplus PRO 300 DG 2x AF Teleconverter:
I was excited about receiving my new Pro 300 DG 2X AF Teleconverter by Kenko. As soon as I received it, I put it on the lens and camera. Immediately I determined the AF doesn't work properly with a Nikon D90 camera and Nikon 70 - 300mm VR AF lens. I ultimately sent it back to B&H [...]

Comments about Kenko Teleplus PRO 300 DG 2x AF Teleconverter:
I used it with my Nikon D7000 and mounted the Nikon 105 2.8 AF-S Macro lens. Auto focus worked well but I was not too happy with the quality, it's too soft with loss of detail. I would recommend spending a little more money and get either the Nikon teleconverter or the desired lens without the tele converter.

Comments about Kenko Teleplus PRO 300 DG 2x AF Teleconverter:
I bought this before leaving on safari in Tanzania...something to give an extra boost to my 80-200mm f2.8 lens for those animals at a distance. As is stated by most, you will lose some light (f5.6 is the best you can get).
Benefits? Absolutely, it allowed me to get right in on some of the closer animals (including a tight shot of an elephant eye) and also to bring the far animals up a little closer. I also found it very useful on the photos of birds, which otherwise were too small to be seen clearly with the 80-200 alone.
Any issues? Just a few, but nothing that can't be worked around. On a few occasions, I bumped the release that detaches the teleconverter from the camera body and it started to spin loose. But after doing it a handful of times, I learned to be more careful. Also, since my lens is not a VR, I had to be very stable in order to stop action when the ambient light didn't allow me to use a very fast shutter speed. I did have good luck with a beanbag on top of the truck to help stabilize the lens.
Buying a true 400mm lens is preferable, of course, but it's tough to beat the cost of the teleconverter instead...especially for those of us without deep pockets.
