The Tiffen 58mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit contains all the basics that an outdoor digital shooter requires.
UV Protector
These are wise initial investments. They help protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.
Circular Polarizer
Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
The entire kit comes with a Tiffen padded storage pouch that will help keep your filters clean and free from dust, dirt, fingerprints and other contaminants,.
Tiffen's ColorCore glass is produced through a process that entails permanently laminating the filter material in between two pieces of optical glass that are ground flat to tolerances of a ten-thousandth of an inch, then mounting them in precision aluminum rings.

These may not be considered the best but for the price they get the job done for any one looking to control light for home movies. The polarized filter works great for a bright snow covered scene I'm sure it'll will equally as well if on the beach. The UV will keep your lens free from debris if your concerned that the kids are going to sling their spaghetti at you while filming. Haven't used the density just yet. Given the nature of my filming the Polarized for bright conditions is the main selling point. The clear so i so i don't have to risk scratching my main lens in the even i have debris, Even if the lenses are durable Id rather not have to touch it to clean if i don't have too. If the density cuts down haze then this is a good consumer level product. haven't had them long so i cant comment on the longevity of the tint but contrary to other reviews Ive read they seem to be built well time will tell.

With my lens, I thought I'd try the Tiffen for a change. Being US made, I figured these would be pretty decent. However, the package price for 3 filters should have been the giveaway. As a basic camera protection packge it's fine. The polarising filter however is useless compared to my Hoya. Doing a direct comparasion on same angle of light, the Tiffen hardly made a difference at all. Fitting the filters on it also very fiddly as they are thin and the thread not so great. Even fitting the lens cap, it only just hangs on.

Was a nice starter kit if you have no lens filters for a 58mm lens. I used these on a Nikon. The lens cap it a bit too snug though.

Comments about Tiffen 58mm Digital Essentials Filter Kit:
I'm far more used to using filters on my video camera, but I bought these for use with my brand new Canon Rebel T3i. On my most recent trip through three National Parks I found occasion to use all three filters; of course, the UV filters stays on my lens at all times. I was able to use the polarizer while hiking through Twenty Lakes Basin, seeing right down to the bottom of the crystal clear shallow lakes that line the trail. I used the ND filter to shoot water as well - a long exposure of the rushing water of Mist Falls in Kings Canyon. The pouch that comes with the filters is very handy as well, fitting up to four filters.

The filters were fine but the threads were not good on the UV. I am afraid they may wreck the threads on my lens if I force it. The other two were fine. Thinking I will have to return it.

Anyone who has a valuable lens should know that a filter is important not only to provide variation in the lens, but protect the glass itself.

This was a well priced and useful addition to the Canon 70-300mm lens I bought recently. As all my other lenses also have a 58mm filter thread (or a step up ring to 58mm) this kit will find itself with a wide range of uses.

I use my filters mainly when I want to take more artistic shots. They are very easy to attach and they come in a nice pouch that protects them when you carry them around. With the polarizing filter it is sometimes a little difficult to see if the filter has been completely attached.
