The iConnect Wireless Data Station from Iomega is a compact device that converts standard USB hard drives or flash drives to intelligent network storage devices. The device features four USB 2.0 ports for device connectivity. It boasts a Gigabit Ethernet interface for wired network connectivity, as well as integrated 802.11n Wi-Fi.
The iConnect adds numerous network features to attached storage drives.* You'll be able to stream media to iTunes or to DLNA UPnP AV devices and perform network backups. You can also download files via BitTorrent directly to attached drives or access files remotely via an Internet connection -- even when your computer is shut down. You can also connect a printer to the iConnect, allowing you to print from any computer in your network.
You'll also be able to connect a digital camera and download photos directly from any digital camera that supports the Picture Transfer Protocol. Because the iConnect supports RSA BSAFE encryption, you can be sure that any data you store on connected drives is safe from prying eyes.
Note! * This device supports drives that have a capacity of no greater than 2TB.

I have a home network with 5 resident computers and several offspring who arrive with their laptops. I wanted to make some external hard drive storage and a printer available on the network. The iConnect was easy to set up to work with external drives and although slower than having the drives directly connected to a pc the response is acceptable, especially with backups scheduled for wee hours of the morning. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get my printer recognized by the iConnect and finally decided that there were 2 shared printers on the network, one of them would probably be available most times.

The product was somewhat easy to configure, but I had trouble with it and ultimately returned it for a refund. The first unit was difficult to connect to on a consistent basis with the Storage Manager software and one drive was being accessed by the Iomega unit as I had no computers connected. Transfer rate was VERY slow, even between 2 hard drives that were plugged into the USB ports on the unit.
The second unit was no better as I was not able to connect on a regular basis and had to reset the unit twice to get to it. In the end, I lost all data on one of the drives.

Comments about Iomega iConnect Wireless Data Station:
I bought this to use as a torrent downloader, and a media server. Out of the box, it allowed the download of a single torrent at a time, which could cause severe bottlenecks if the top torrent is slow. The media server was picked up right away by my bluray player, but it would not allow the video to be paused.
After modifying to allow for usb boot, I installed a linux os on a thumb drive, and then installed a torrent downloader, a media server, and an app to parse rss feeds. The torrent downloader will handle several torrents at the same time, and this device downloads the torrents very quickly. The media server allows the usage of multiple video formats, and gave the ability to pause the video.
I gave this three stars, as the hardware is excellent, but I was not so impressed with the software. If the software had included a better torrent downloader, with rss capabilities, and a better media server, I would give this five stars, no problem.

Not going to get into the whole to do, but I lost all data on not one but 3 diffent usb drives. I used the correct procedure to unplug a USB device, but when connecting to a desktop some where else, nothing was there.
On one of the drives, it corrupted the usb drive so badley, I could not even re create a partition in windows. I had to disassemble the USB drive and connect it directly and use linux based tool to create a partition.
This device will be recieving an ice pick through its heart.
So total of lost data...wait for it....4 Terabytes. OUCH.

This is the product I have been looking for a long time. I wanted to access contents on my 1.5TB external drive and 1TB portal drive wireless on both my mac laptops and IPAD. This solves the problem and setup is so easy. Bonus feature is the in-built media player. I am able to watch movies I have in my harddrive thru my internet enabled Samsung Blu-ray player.. Its awesome!!!

Comments about Iomega iConnect Wireless Data Station:
The product is very easy to use and install. You don't need to insstall drivers to be able to access the shares and this is fantastic. You can see a "computer" iConnect and the shared drives under it. The transfert speed is correct...
When I tried to unrar a big file on a share and, at the same time, copy a file from the share to a local drive, the iConnect crash.. I were not able to access the share and the web site of the iConnect to stop the hard drive...
I was not able to use the Torrent program. I suggest you to disable the Media sharing built-in because it seems to index all media files and it's very slow...

I wanted to complete a wireless architecture for our home network.... the iConnect allowed us to use our same printers, and external storage - adding wireless capability. We also connected an iPod as a music server. For less than $70 you can use the peripherals you have, and get rid of the wires!I see this device as a stop gap to bridge your old - but still serviceable - peripherals. No doubt the majority of printers and storage are heading wireless anyway. This is gonna be great until we no longer need it![...]Binyon H.

Comments about Iomega iConnect Wireless Data Station:
I connected this to my wireless network for household access for a second computer, and used the local gigabit LAN connection for the primary computer's access. Seemed to work fine initially, but once I started to add a heavy load and transfer larger files (1+ GB) I started to get network errors; retrys on communication ultimately resulted in failed transfers. I lost one file, and when I plugged my drives back into a real computer all the filesysems had to be rescanned due to filesystem corruption (NTFS). Also, wireless connections S-L-O-W (900 kbps where it's normally 4 MB/s). If the unit had worked properly, it would have been great - 35-40MB/s speed over LAN, easy administration, lots of USB ports...however, I didn't work well and so I've lost trust in it now and it's always failing to transfer my data. Had most recent firmware, used support forums (seems to be common problem) and tried multiple things to eliminate variables (wired vs. wireless, different hard drives, different files accessed, reboots, resets, turning off DLNA, etc. to no avail. Please avoid this and save yourself time and money. I'm hoping that Iomega will get it right with their USB 3.0 revision in the future (hopefully) because it does have significant potential at a great price.Ultimately returned it to BHPhoto.[...]

Some bad reviews did not stop me to buy it. It takes some time to find how to use the most this product has. And that is:
- NAS works good with NTFS/FAT - but do not compress a disk - it will be your pain.
- WiFi gives 4-5Mbps. It is not so good for speed maniacs but it is OK for my 100M-3G backup jobs.
- LAN port to WiFi N router give more - 5-9Mbs.
All in All if simplify setup and do not expect a hard work from this small unit - it gives freedom from wires and mobility.

I use this product to manage hard drives that I use for backup and file sharing between the PC's on my home network. This product was very easy to set up and immediately saw and connected the drives. The only con I have is that it takes a little while to boot up and show the drives, but nothing that is really that negative. Overall, this product does exactly what is says it will do.
