The Nikon Coolpix S4000 Digital Camera (Black) produces images with up to 12.0 megapixels of resolution, and incorporates a 4x wide-angle zoom lens. The 27 to 108mm lens allows you to take large groups in a tight space, and also capture subjects in the distance.
Shooting in low light is not a problem with Nikon's exclusive 4-way VR Image Stabilization technology that utilizes Electronic VR Image Stabilization, along with the cameras high sensitivity equivalent of ISO 3200, Motion Detection, and the exclusive Best Shot Selector (BSS). This ensures that your photos will always look great - regardless of lighting conditions or subject movement.
For difficult image situations the camera offers 16 different scene modes. If you are not sure which to choose the Scene Auto Selector will make the decision for you. Nikon's Smart Portrait System ensures beautiful portrait and people shots by combining Nikon's innovative smile mode, Blink Warning, In-Camera Red-Eye Fix, D-Lighting, Skin Softening, and Face Priority AF technologies. At firsts impressions, the thing is tiny!! The battery charges quickly. The camera boots quickly, even quicker since turning off the start up screen. Responds fast, though the screen is a little bit twitchy. After a bit of practice you learn the proper pressure. Nice screen, may want to find a screen protector for it.
All and all a great upgrade. Nice functions and quick operation. At least as compared to the camera its replacing. Don't forget a case, that big screen is a magnet for impacts.

Great little pocket camera to have for the "on the go" individual with great resolution. Used in everyday situations to shoot family and friends and to use as a small compact instead of hauling my huge DSLR. Right out of the box the camera is extremely easy to use. No need to read manuals as it's quite easy to follow the on-screen menus. Flash is quite powerful for such a little camera and it produces crisp photos. The video feature needs some improvement but is overlooked as a trade-off for HD video. No stabilization feature so you need to have a steady hand when shooting video. Included software makes transferring to PC a breeze even a child can do it. Overall a great buy for the price.

I use this neat little camera as a companion to my DSLR. Fits in the pocket easily and not heavy. I use it strictly as a P & S on full automatic. If I need different settings I have the DSLR. AS this is a touchscreen camera I would recommend a plastic film type of screen protector. Very good photos considering the price point.

In 2001 bought a Nikon 4 MP camera and loved it. Got a Canon in 2005 and had the worst red-eye problems - even with the red eye option on. Bought this camera because of the Nikon brand, price and small form factor and really am impressed. There are just enough buttons to make it do what you want, and if you want more, the touch screen gets you there easily.
