Overall, I am satisfied with the flash. The build quality isn't bad and it works. The only concern that I had is that I must turn off the flash on the camera to prevent the pop-up flash from popping up when the shutter button is pressed halfway down. I do not need to do this for my Sony flash. My other concern is that it doesn't show charging status in the view finder. My Sony flash shows the charging status in the view finder like the built on pop up flash. Unlike my Sony flash, there is a little friction when I removed the flash from the camera. It is slightly tighter on the hot shoe than my Sony flash. Nevertheless, I believe that it is a great deal.
I use the flash mainly for portraits. I take portraits of my children and this flash gives great light.

Does what it's supposed to do. HOWEVER, there is really very little that is "automatic" about it. You must set you camera to manual mode & select appropriate shutter & aperture speeds. I expected it would at least communicate with the camera (a33) that there is a flash attached & set the shutter speed. This isn't very clear in the specs, unless I am missing something.

Comments about Bower SFD296S Zoom Bounce Digital Flash:
I got this about two weeks ago about two days before a wedding and whipped it out to start practicing as soon as i could bc i had never used an external flash before. It was easy to use and install. At the wedding, I easily and quickly picked up what settings worked and which didn't work. The photos came out great! Indoors, it did awesome! So yeah, I like it! Pretty nifty little flash for the price!

Comments about Bower SFD296S Zoom Bounce Digital Flash:
The flash is a good product but the only way I can make this work in low light is by turning the ISO to at least 800. With my Sony A35, this makes the display and viewfinder almost completely black which makes taking pictures difficult.

Comments about Bower SFD296S Zoom Bounce Digital Flash:
This is a high quality and versital flash at a great price. The head moves up at 90 degrees, but also swivels around to 90 then 180 degress for a lot of different lighting options. I use a minny diffuser and minny soft box on it, and it works great. I have six different flashes for my camera, and this is the one I go to first, over the more expensive ones (and less options).

Awesome flash for the money. The OEM Sony flash is $299, so this is a much better option. Everything works great with it!! Fast charge and super bright for outdoor night shots.

Comments about Bower SFD296S Zoom Bounce Digital Flash:
This is a easily usable flash for the price. It is very light weight and works well. I purchased it to use in my new garage studio. As a beginner, I do not have a lot of money to invest so this flash works well to fill in where I am unable to use natural light. I bounce the flash off the ceiling for a good full area fill.

Comments about Bower SFD296S Zoom Bounce Digital Flash:
I got the flash yesterday (a day before it said it would come)and I love it! I've been using it for flower close-ups and it works great. Fits on nicely and it seems secure. The only thing that worries me is the build. Nothing serious, but the zoom head and battery holder seem cheap. It will lighten up picture perfectly though. One thing to remember though is to READ THE MANUAL. When I first got it I thought it didn't work because I didn't read the manual. The back is hard to understand, but you'll get it. On my camera (Sony a390)I found that to warmify the picture helps to make better indoor shots. I wasn't expecting such good quality for the price. 5 stars easily earned.

I bought this to use with my sony a390 and it works better than the other sony flash (Sony HVLF20AM). The flash output is a lot stronger than that one but the only thing is the build quality is a lot cheaper, but for forty dollars it's a really good flash, especailly when your on a budget.

Overall a good value, the only major drawbacks are slow recycle time and the construction- seems like it could easily get broken.
I use this just for casual shooting of my family and such, but it has been a good buy and gets used often. Exceeded my expectations for the price!
