The CS-445 CD Mini Receiver System from Onkyo offers a carefully considered balance of performance, price, and practicality. Thanks to its compact size, this versatile audio mini system can be set up virtually anywhere in the home.
Driving the system is a combined CD-receiver that handles regular CDs as well as recordable CDs encoded with compressed audio files. Playback options are further expanded by a built-in iPhone/iPod dock that lets you hook up and recharge your device.
Naturally, given Onkyo's enviable track record in home audio, the processing and amplification circuitry are second to none. Completing the system are two precision-crafted bookshelf speakers featuring Onkyo's proprietary OMF diaphragms.

Comments about Onkyo CS-445 CD Mini Receiver System:
I bought the Onkyo CS-445 CD Mini Receiver at B&H, after review and compare some similar products, and I am plenty of satisfaction. Fits perfect on my room and fills it with wonderful sound. Also works with my new iPhone 4S.

Comments about Onkyo CS-445 CD Mini Receiver System:
My wife & I like having a small cd/stereo receiver in the kitchen to listen to. Our last stereo mini system started skipping playing the cd player. Anyhow I did a lot of research & this mini system seemed to have what we wanted & had the best reviews in our price range $200-400.We are very impressed with the sound. It has fairly good bass for bookshelf speakers & if u need more bass it has an optional output. Overall Great sound for the money.

Comments about Onkyo CS-445 CD Mini Receiver System:
Really easy to set up. I needed a small, light micro system with audio-in capability and it delivered. I desired a little more power but otherwise it works fine.

Comments about Onkyo CS-445 CD Mini Receiver System:
I bought this product for it's ratio of size to sound quality but more importantly for it's versatility. I use the line-in function with my LCD TV... the iPod cradle for playing music and internet radio (I have an iPod-4th generation)... the single-disc CD player ... and it's FM radio tuner.
It's greatest attributes? I love using the remote to control my iPod and seeing the titles appear on the unit's screen. The sound is as much as I need for my large bedroom but I would like to hear it in a larger area. It's simple design is so refreshing. I don't have to look all over the unit or remote to simply play music!
I haven't played my iPod videos through my TV yet but that's my next quest.
What I wish was different?
I didn't get a cradle for my iPod and don't know where you buy one (or how to use one for that matter!). I just insert the iPod down onto the connector.
Overall, the unit is more than I had hoped for in terms of how I use it and how it sounds.

Comments about Onkyo CS-445 CD Mini Receiver System:
We were looking for a replacement system in our bedroom. It needed to be small and it needed to have line inputs to accept our Satellite receiver's audio output, a CD player and ideally an iPod dock. This had all that and 45 watts per channel. We got the little of 10" Polk Audio subwoofer to go along with it which fills things out nicely. Onkyo did a great job with this unit. The sound is very clear and reasonably accurate. Many systems in this form factor have very little power. The purpose of power isn't always volume, but the ability to handle the dynamics and transients of digital music. It does help though if you want to turn it up a bit. We're used to a $10,000+ system in our living room (many go much higher) so we're used to accurate, transparent sound at just about any volume level. I don't call myself an "audiophile" necessarily because it's a bit of a throwaway, arrogant term; I just love music of all types at different volume levels. This system did not dissapoint! In the future we can upgrade the speakers if we feel the need, the receiver can handle it. For what we need out of it, we are happy with things as they are.

Comments about Onkyo CS-445 CD Mini Receiver System:
Just replaced my JVC micro system with this more powerful Onkyo setup. There's nothing to getting this entire system set up and the fact that the speakers have spring loaded terminals makes longer speaker wire a snap. My prior system was wired directly into the speaker and forced me to splice wires together to work in my home office setting. The sub-out and (1) input sold me on this unit as I have my Sirius unit running to that input. And the dedicated iPod charger/dock that's built into the top of the main unit makes for simple use & charging of my iPod and any other iPods in the house. It might have been nice to have a second input on this unit that I could use for a Sonos bridge but that is always something I could run into my Line 1 input and then access my Sirius account via the PC or run my Sirius Starmate through the Sonos unit(still researching this as I havent' taken the plunge with Sonos in the house yet.) All in all this is close to just what I was looking for and I suspect the speakers will only sound better once they are broken in over the next few weeks. There's only 4 increments of adjustment on the Bass & Treble so that does somewhat limit how much I am able to affect the sound of the systme overall ,but maybe that's by design so I don't ask something of the speakers that they weren't designed for. Again, all in all it's not an issue and this is a sweet unit for the price.

Comments about Onkyo CS-445 CD Mini Receiver System:
I got the CS-445 to replace a more sophisticated stereo system because more and more of the music I want to listen to is on either my iPod or iPhone. I was worried about sound quality given the price, but I could not be more pleased. The classical stuff is beautiful, and a very functional bass adjustment lets me enjoy the rock and roll. I am getting a powered subwoofer to enhance the sound and adding it to the 445 is merely plug and play. Note that I use it in the living room for just my wife and me. I don't know what it would be like for a loud party with dancing, screaming, etc.
