The Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS Digital ELPH Camera (Blue) features a 12.1MP CCD imaging sensor and an optically stabilized 4x UA (Ultra High Refractive Index Aspherical) zoom lens, which covers an equivalent focal range of 28-112mm without compromising the narrow profile Canon Digital EPLHs are known for. And for composing, reviewing, and editing your photos, the SD1300 IS features a bright 2.7" (230,000-dot) PureColor System LCD.
Canon's PowerShot SD1300 captures still images in a choice of 6 JPEG file sizes (including 16:9) as well as AVI video clips up to 60 minutes (or 4GB per clip) with mono sound.
For fuss-free shooting, Canon's Smart AUTO mode automatically analyzes the scene and sets the best exposure based on 18 predefined shooting situations. For shooting under low lighting conditions, the ISO sensitivity of the PowerShot SD1300 IS can be dialed up to 1600, and when shooting in Low Light mode, expanded as high as an equivalent of ISO 6400.
Other image enhancing features found on the Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS include a DIGIC 4 image processor, Intelligent Contrast Correction, Motion Detection Technology, Face Detection Self-timer, Red-eye Correction, AF/AE/FE/WB Face Detection, and a Face Detection Self-timer that enables you to get your own smiling face into family portraits.
The Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS records images onto your choice of SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, MMC Plus Card, HC MMC Plus memory cards up to 16GB (not included) and powers off a rechargeable NB-6L lithium-ion battery, which is good for about 240 images-per-charge or about 7 hours of playback time.
The PowerShot SD1300 IS Digital ELPH is equipped with the acclaimed Canon Optical Image Stabilizer, which automatically detects and corrects camera shake - one of the leading causes of fuzzy or blurred shots. Even when zoomed in, you can get the steady, crisp, brilliant images you'll be proud to shoot and share. And the Canon Optical Image Stabilizer technology is so convenient to use. It functions perfectly with or without a flash.

I bought this photo because my 8 year old Canon Elph finally died on me and I was tired of lugging my DSLR around with me to take quick snapshots. I love having a small camera to keep in my diaper bag, purse or pocket. The start up time and shutter lag on this camera are minimal (though certainly noticeable if you're used to an SLR). The camera takes good, fast photos, even in the auto mode.
My only complaints with the camera come from being so used to using an SLR: the shutter lag is noticeable (though shorter than other similar cameras I tried before buying this one) and the image quality is not as good as an SLR. For my purposes, however, it's a great little camera.

Bought this for my wife for Christmas. She tried it and got poor quality photos. I told her she must be doing something wrong, so I tried it and got the same results. (of course i'm used to the D90) I [...] will try the Lumix DMC-ZR3 and see if I can get a better quality photo with it. We may have just gotten a bad one, but the photos were blurry and grainy no matter what settings we tried.

Comments about Canon PowerShot SD1300 IS Digital ELPH Camera (Blue):
This camera works great...and is very user-friendly. Haven't had any problems with it. I had the same exact camera (diff color) for about 6 months, before ruining the screen. Decided to buy the exact same one because I've had such good experience with it. Takes great photos and has lots of different settings if desired. I use it all the time...at sporting events, weddings, and other events. Definitely recommend. Also great battery life.

Already had an SD 1400, also a good camera, but in the quest for small, I found the SD1400 to be too small, and the 14 mp versus 12 mp makes not a bit of difference. Grab one of these while you still can, it's a good camera, more than small, but you can access all controls easier, and it takes a good a photo as the SD1400, and likely all the newer Canons!

I like that it can fit in my pocket and that I can put it through bars if I need to at national landmarks. You do have to wait for the camera to focus in low light. After a ton of photos, the flash starts to smoke....

I am a college student whose old Canon camera broke after about 8 years. I was looking for another Canon that was a good price with good quality. This camera is great. It looks very sleek and is small enough to carry around comfortably. It takes good quality pictures and videos as well. It can be a little slow after you take a photo, sometimes it takes a few seconds but that doesn't really bother me. Overall this is an excellent camera for the price and I would definitely recommend this model or any Canon camera.

I wanted a camera that was not HD video because those files are too big. This takes good video and is easy to use.
