The Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS Digital ELPH (Pink) features a high-resolution 14.1MP CCD imaging sensor and an optically stabilized 4x UA (Ultra High Refractive Index Aspherical) zoom lens, which covers an equivalent focal range of 28-112mm without compromising the narrow profile Canon Digital EPLHs are known for. And for composing, reviewing, and editing your photos, the SD1400 IS features a bright 2.7" (230,000-dot) PureColor System LCD.
In addition to a choice of 6 JPEG file sizes (including 16:9) the SD1400 IS can capture HD 720p video clips (with monaural sound) up to 60 minutes (or 4GB per clip) as well as 640x480 @ 30 fps and 320x240 @ 30 fps for lower-resolution applications.
For fuss-free shooting, Canon's Smart AUTO mode automatically analyzes the scene and sets the best exposure based on 22 predefined shooting situations. For shooting under low lighting conditions, the ISO sensitivity of the PowerShot SD1400 IS can be dialed up to 1600, and when shooting in Low Light mode, expanded as high as an equivalent of ISO 6400.
Other image enhancing features found on the Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS include a DIGIC 4 image processor, Intelligent Contrast Correction, Motion Detection Technology, Face Detection Self-Timer, Red-eye Correction, Advanced AF/AE/FE/WB Face Detection, and a Face Detection Self-timer that enables you to get your own happy face into family portraits.
The Canon PowerShot SD1400 IS records images onto your choice of SD/SDHC/SDXC Memory Card, MultiMediaCard, MMC Plus Card, HC MMC Plus memory cards up to 16GB (not included) and powers off a rechargeable NB-4L lithium-ion battery, which is good for about 230 images-per-charge, or about 6 hours of playback time.
The PowerShot SD1400 IS Digital ELPH is equipped with the acclaimed Canon Optical Image Stabilizer, which automatically detects and corrects camera shake - one of the leading causes of fuzzy or blurred shots. Even when zoomed in, you can get the steady, crisp, brilliant images you'll be proud to shoot and share. And the Canon Optical Image Stabilizer technology is so convenient to use. It functions perfectly with or without a flash.

I bought this camera for my daughter after owning one for 6 months. She wanted something she could get creative with. There are too many features to mention here but first off it takes great photos. My shots of Lake Tahoe are absolutely stunning. Shots taken with the 1400 absolutely compare to those done with my friends $3K Canon rig. Favorite features are: continuous drive mode, hold the shutter button down to capture action then pick the best shot when you edit later; Program mode, where you can really dig in for special effects like miniature, fisheye, color substitution and a variety of special filters or just to fit the lighting and its very easy to access, unlike others I've owned; Full HD video!; Image Stabilizer allows me to shoot from a moving vehicle and in conjunction with the 4x zoom and excellent digital zoom, you can take some really long shots. Great features, easy to get around on, pocket sized and takes great photos. What do you want? One word of advice is always, ALWAYS slip your hand through the safety cord. I don't see this as a negative as the rounded corners are what makes it disappear in your pocket. Just make it a habit, it's saved mine from a river or two.

I needed to upgrade my canon P&S from circa 2004 (the SD400), so naturally I assumed that the latest and greatest P&S would be this one.
How wrong I was.
My major issue with this camera is that for some reason I can't figure out - when I shoot in auto, some of my photos come out blurry! I'm talking about taking a sequence of shots one after the other - some come out blurry and others don't. Given that it is in auto mode I don't understand why this happens. I never once had this issue with my old school SD400 so you can imagine how frustrating it is for me to have this issue.
Sometimes I try shooting in one of the various modes (i.e. "food") but picture quality isn't so great. I also tried shooting in manual mode (Since I have an SLR - I figured out how to do this on the P&S) and the quality is okay.
To be honest - I'm not too happy with most of the P&S I've seen on the market these days (from what my friends use/etc). It seems like manufacturers added too many bells and whistles to be of use, and when in fact if I am using my P&S camera, I literally want to be able to do just that - point and shoot and not worry about zoom/light/etc. That's what I have my SLR for!
I would not recommend this product but I'm sorry to say I can't really recommend another option for P&S cameras.
The only reason positive: it is bright pink (my favorite color!).

This camera is perfect for a pocket camera. Very small and such an amazing color!. Takes great pictures in low lighting. I have read several reviews on this camera good and bad, but people need to realize that it is not a digital SLR, so it is not expected to take those kind of pictures, if you are looking for a great point and shoot to take everywhere..vacation..wherever this is an excellent camera. Canon never fails, great job with this one!

I bought this camera for my wife... she liked the pink color. She LOVED the fact that it was very easy to use, but most importantly had a quick start up. With a toddler, we can't always rely on our cell phone cameras to load up. She can whip the PowerShot ELPH out, and snap a pic and not miss a beat! The in-camera tutorial is easy to use and easy to turn off. It has given her and I a bunch of ideas of photos to take of our son! Compact, easy to use, crisp pictures with a ton a features. This camera is the perfect companion when you don't want to bring a bulkier camera along.

I'm a professional photographer and I had to have one of these.
They're small and compact which make it nice and easy to carry around.
The image quality is excellent and the auto focus is fast and intelligent in recognizing faces.
The video mode is awesome! Captures HD footy and looks great after you up convert it to Apple Pro Res.
Also... There is a whole myriad of fun features that are found in the menus like fisheye, and macro shooting styles, and post processing effects like b&w or sephia.
Honestly... for the price... You can't beat it. Really fun to play with, easily totable, and great capture quality.

I purchased the SD1400 for my 11 1/2 year old daughter for Christmas and she loves it. The camera is the perfect size for her to slip into her purse or pocket so she has it with her all the time.
I've been a digital photography enthusiast for over 10 years and I've had easily 25+ cameras over the years and this one compares favorably to other compacts that I've owned.
I've not uncovered any negatives about this camera as of yet. So far it's been great and I can highly recommend it.

The features are very interesting, fun and creative. I like the uniform color as opposed to the multiple tones that most other cameras have. The quality and zoom are fantastic. My pictures and videos come out clear and the sound quality is very good in comparison to other cameras with video recording capabilities.

I keep the ELPH in my bag at all times so I never have to miss a shot when I'm out and about. I especially enjoy having the exposure compensation located where I can get it quickly as that's a feature I use a lot. I appreciate how smoothly the zoom lever works. I recommend this camera to anyone who's looking for lots of features and ease of use.
