This is TECHNICALLY, a rebel in size, shape, composition, etc., but don't let that fool you. The T2i is a wonderful piece of D-SLR equipment, either as a backup to a more professional camera (7D, 1D series, etc.) or as a first D-SLR for someone who either came from point and shoots, or from Film SLRs (I'm the latter). However, when I saw my first photos from Central Park, I was blown away by not only the resolving power of the camera, but also the quality of pictures even at 1600 ISO speeds, with 3200 being completely usable. There isn't much noise at these two levels; levels that were pro-territory just 3 years ago, and that will be a great surprise to those coming from small-sensor point and shoots, where such high ISOs result in noise.
As this is a camera that can shoot at 18MP JPG and do basic RAW (18MP), this is not a camera that will suffer low capacity or low-speed SD cards. To really get the best out fo it, a quality (ie: sandisk extreme class 6 or higher, or hoodman class 6 or higher) card would serve the camera well for functions such as 1080p recording, or for those times one wants a very long burst of photos. JPGs in Large / Fine are 5 to 8 MB each, and RAW Files are 25MB and up. You get a LOT of detail from this camera, and 11 x 17 shots at 300dpi are a reality. The Buffer is small relative to the 18MP / shot and 3.7 fps the camera is capable of... thus making a fast card all the more important. (NB: This camera IS compatible with upcoming SDXC cards, so it will be able to hit MUCH higher write speeds in the future)
A note of warning: the "kit" lens (i got mine separate) of 18-55 does not do this camera justice; there is just so much sensor resolution that it's not a bad idea to invest in the 18-135, or if finances permit, the 17-55 f/2.8 or the 24-70 f/2.8 L USM. Be forewarned, the sensor has a 1.6x crop, so any EF lens you put on needs to be multiplied by 1.6 (ie: 50mm lens on a full-frame = 80mm on this camera). You won't lose f-stops though in the crop, so it will still be the marked f-stop on the lens.
Nothing bad to report, loving this camera, looking forward to procuring more lenses for what is a baby 7D (it even has the DIGIC 4 processor!)

I really wanted to like this camera. It takes wonderful photos. However, certain issues were dealbreakers for me. First, I got the "oil-flinged-from-the-mirror-to-the-sensor" problem. Canon officially acknowledged this problem for their top models. Also, the manual indicates it can happen on rare occasions. I'm not happy about that. Second, there's the overheating issue and it's annoying red icon in the screen. Probably, not a problem if you limit the use of Live View and the Video features. Live View isn't useful if I can't use it for extended periods of time for the kind of work I do. Perhaps I'm being too harsh but I'm comparing the T2i with my old Canon, which is trully a workhorse camera: works nonstop for hours without overheating issues or other problems. I wouldn't mind some sort of cooling system grip even if it makes the T2i bulkier or requires more batteries. Finally, the T2i body feels fragile. The battery door looks really flimsy. There's the possibility of digital pellix cameras coming out soon which would mean less moving/mechanical parts and perhaps a more reliable Live View. I might wait for that.

Our church purchased this product because we needed a crisper picture from our SD Cannon. We are using it mostly as a quality picture video camera to interview people at our church in hopes to inspirer our community.
The picture (with a quality lens) is spectacular. We couldn't be happier! The sound quality for our videos is really great. Low lighting isn't great... it gets pretty grainy. Also if you are wanting to zoom you will need a quality lens otherwise it's not going to be smooth. But both of those are standard.
Bottom line. Beautiful picture, it's worth it as long as your lens is a good one.

I use the T2i for senior and wedding photography. I moved up from Mamiya RB 6x7's and 645's. I will not miss them. WOW! This little camera is great. I bought it to try out digital...thinking if I liked digital I would end up buying a real "pro" model. The T2i is it!

I upgraded my "backup" body from an XTi to the T2i, purchased from B&H. I'm ecstatically happy with the decision. Imagine quality is outstanding (and in many ways rivals that of my 5D MkII), the HD video is terrific, and Canon has added lots of other nice little touches since my XTi came out. With the lower price since the T3i came out, the T2i is probably the best value in DSLRs available. I adore it. Have used it on 6 professional jobs so far, and haven't found anything about it to gripe about. If you get one, get the battery grip...it makes it much easier to handle and more well balanced.

Moved up from P&S to this unit after considering several other (D3100/D5100, Sony A55).
I am new and still learning but really happy with my choice - not just becasue of the quality of pictures but also how easy and intiutive I find this camera to be. Based on the many reviews on the internet, I was reassured that it will provide great pictures and a lot in terms of learning as I get more into this hobby. So technically, the one choice I had to make was around ergonmics, menu, ease of use etc...
I played with friend's D90 and didn't have the same feeling for the Nikon.
Battery lasts good amount of time, but I don't have a good reference point.
Great placement of all important settings/ buttons
I feel like I will very quickly get my skills up from casual to enthusiast photographer with this camera.

I was upgrading from a 20D. Much of the operation is similar - enough is different to require some reading of the (well laid out) manual.
The biggest disappointment was the video operation. The manual says that you need a class 6 of higher SDHC card. I purchased two class 10 PNY cards from two sources and neither will keep up with the data rate. I keep getting a buffer low indication on the screen, followed with a "Movie recording has been stopped automatically" message. Said message is NOT covered in the manual and it took me three days of testing to sort this out. In all fairness, I've been too stressed to spend the time yet to contact B&H and see if I have a defective body.

I'm a professional filmmaker and use this for nearly every shoot. I initially bought the 5D, after comparing the results with the T2i I found nearly no difference and traded the 5D for 2 T2i's. The HD video is superb and the video and photo options built into the camera are so powerful it makes color correcting in post a thousand times easier. I would recommend this to any filmmaker in search of a reasonably priced, professional result product.

I am a beginner in the DSLR field, and I have found this camera to be extremely accessible and pretty easy to use and figure out. I am still learning about the different settings and ways to shoot a picture, but I can tell that I'll be able to do everything that I want with this camera.
I love the bright display and the picture quality. The menus are clear and easy to use and maneuver around. I love the weight and body of the camera.
One thing that isn't so great is when switching from a picture to a video, there is a lot of movement required on the settings wheel - it only turns one way, so that makes it a little difficult to get to a different setting quickly.

This is a great camera. Now that I had it for a couple of months and used it in several different conditions I can say that it works well in all of them including low light. It has more options then I will ever use, it is fast and so far have not missed a shot. Find battery life more then adequate having shot upwards of 300+ pictures at one time.

Photography challenges in our house have been fast moving, action, low light situations and images. Specifically, dancers at varying light levels (recitals, routines inside a school gymnasium, football games with light transition to night). I have outstanding images from my Canon Rebel XT, with over years of practice, but the few shots I was able to get out of hundreds do not compare to the abilities I have already seen with my Canon T2i. The T2i results are so remarkable specifically for low light situations, it was highly recommended from another avid photographer after witnessing the difference this camera made in the same challenge situations (gymnastics). Highly recommend this camera body. It was stated to me side by side, one would not be able to discern my photograph, from those taken professionally of same event and images.

This is my first digital camera and I wish I had purchased it years ago. I am a very amateur photographer but the camera makes professional photos. Don't be confused by all the settings on the dial. It is really easy to use. Just read the book, become familiar with what it is capable of and shoot away. Very easy to use and take high quality photographs. I upgraded from an XT and I love it thus far. I'm a photography student and basically it meets all my needs. I wish f stops had their own one button rather than first having to press that button and then scrolling left or right.
