for the money you can't beat the canon underwater housings for their ELPHs. I've used an older version for several years - never a leak and never a problem until a plastic piece broke off of the inside this fall - but that's after years of use and occasionally some sub-par treatment by me (its knocked around in more dive bags, inside kayaks, in the surf zone, etc, unprotected than I'd like to admit. and lots more trips when i did take proper care of it.
This UW housing is different than most in the canon line - its smaller than most, and the compact size is very appealing. That did result in one change over older models - the reduced volume of the case means less air inside and it is now actually slightly negatively buoyant. I personally like negatively buoyant UW camera gear, as its easier to scoop up a dropped camera from the bottom than chase one that is shooting up to the surface to be carried away by wind and waves, but for folks who are on the surface - snorkelers for instance, they might prefer a positive buoyant setup.
The SD1400 has a lot of controls, but with the housing on you don't have access to many of the settings. you can still zoom, review photos, hop in and out of the movie mode, and control the various flash settings, which, to be honest on most dive trips is all you can handle anyway if you shoot for photojournalism and also just for fun days as I do. Composition underwater is such a major factor I don't usually have much time to play with controls anyway once a dive has started.
Diving aside, I've found this a great all-weather case for the SD1400 as well, and have used it more when i am "around water" than when I am "underwater"
A great product for the price. Thanks Canon for another winner.

I recently purchased this case to use on my new Canon 1400, replacing my Canon 800 and matching underwater case. I just assumed the cases would be similar, but I was wrong. As other reviewers have mentioned (but the case description does NOT mention), many of the buttons in this new case cannot be accessed while underwater. Most of these buttons are not needed underwater anyways. BUT I was very annoyed to find that I cannot create a custom white balance. Yes, there is an underwater mode . . . but white balance is different at 10 feet versus 60 feet and the custom setting helps correct for that. Unfortunately, I picked this new case up on the way to my two-week dive trip, so no time to order the Ikelite case (which has access to ALL of the buttons). So I am stuck with the Canon case, so sad!!

I took this snorkeling in Cozumel and got the most amazing pictures; so much better than when I used to buy those disposable underwater cameras! It is easy to assemble and easy to use. I was worried about other reviewers who didn't like the limited functions (mostly not being able to delete photos). But that wound up being a non-issue for me. After all, who takes the time to review and delete photos while snorkeling in the ocean?!

Comments about WP-DC37 Underwater Housing f/ Canon PowerShot SD1400:

This product is great! I reviewed a lot of cameras for underwater and the reviews only started getting decent at around $300. This saves you half of that and works great!

I was a little scared of taking it underwater, but when I accidentally dropped it in the ocean and nothing happened, Im sure it will do the job. I use it just around water but I am not afraid of dropping it in the water.

Only negative about it (which would happen with any camera) is if the lens gets wet, the pictures have "bubble" wet spots on them.

A relatively new diver, I bought this to improve my underwater photography beyond the sad disposable cameras. The directions for loading the camera, maintaining the seal and general care were clear. Underwater I experimented with and without flash as well as with attached diffuser. Image previews looked great underwater. Buttons do not allow you to scroll through pics with housing, but that could be a good safety feature. I really looked foward to downloading my images, but sadly it slipped off the boat deck and into the water as the boat left. I plan to replace camera and housing as soon as I can afford it.

Purchased this housing to take down to Cancun. I had read other reviews indicating some fogging issues between the lenses. The fogging also happened to me when going between the cooler rivers and the warmer ambient air. It did keep the camera dry and allowed me to take some great pictures, when the lense wasn't fogged up. You definitely need to use the flash diffuser, or you get a shadow on the lower right of the picture. I've removed the lenses and will put them in a vacuum chamber with dry nitrogen and try to seal with RTV to see if that keeps the fogging from ocurring between the lenses.

Comments about WP-DC37 Underwater Housing f/ Canon PowerShot SD1400:

I recently purchased this Canon waterproof case and found after the first use the the glass lens cover was permanently fogged thus preventing any further photos. Obviously a manufacturing defect. The glass lens cover is composed of two layers and once fogged cannot be de-fogged or wiped. Canon provided ZERO support for their waterproof cases and should this happen you are completely out of luck!

Their email reply to my request for help:

" Unfortunately the water-proof housings do not come with any kind of
warranty expressed or implied in any way. The manual that comes with
the housing is to be followed in performing maintenance on the water
proof housing and is strictly up to the user to comply with the
            procedures in the manual.

I am sorry for the inconvenience, but we cannot provide you with
any real assistance with this matter.

Case worked great when I used in on a dive trip in Maui. The case went down to 90' with no issues. Controls are easy to use although you cannot access all the cameras features while the camera is in the case. You are able to switch between the underwater, beach, snow, auto, and video settings, turn flash on off and to auto, switch between the macro, infinity, and normal setting, use the zoom, and view pictures. I would recommend this for anyone who dives or snorkels as I would buy this case again. If you are a diver a strobe would be nice to help bring out more color.

I got this camera to use on diving trips in Belize. The manual goes over how to prepare the case to go underwater including being careful to make sure no sand grains or strands of hair are on the O-ring. I used the case down to a depth of about 100 feet without any difficulties. The pictures and videos that I took came out great. The buttons on the underwater case limit some of the functions of the camera, but this was not a hinderance for me.Pros: good pictures/videos, rated down to 100 feetCons: When the camera is in the case and you are using it in the sun, a little moisture will form on the inside of the case lens. To solve this, just take the camera out of the sun for a little bit. I have a problem with the selector. It will only switch between the camera and the video mode. [...] It is negatively buyount with the camera in the case.Overall great case

Comments about WP-DC37 Underwater Housing f/ Canon PowerShot SD1400:

The case does a great job in providing a tight waterproof case that is not too bulky. If you have read other reviews then you know that it does not give you full access to all the options on the camera, but a reasonable amount. I figured this was not much of an issue, but may have turned out to be.

Cons: no video playback, shoot video/pics in either Snow, Underwater, Beach or auto mods, no other options.

Honestly for shooting, this is fine for me and really when using the case those are typically the only settings I will use, or at least they will do the trick. For the money, the ikelite seemed to expensive to give you access to everything, about $100 more, and I bought the camera for $139.

The real problem, I was touring to several different beaches on my trip. Between beach stops I took the camera out to playback some underwater videos. When I got to the next beach I figured I wasn't taking it in the water so left the case off. Of course, my wife brought the camera to the beach and promptly dropped it accidentally in the sand. Sand got in the camera and voila, lens error. I was able to correct it a day later, but this shows how not having all the available functions may pose some real issues.

The real kicker is that the fit is so tight I had to take the hand strap off the camera to fit it in the case, so my wife says if the strap was on, she wouldn't have dropped it.... uhuh....

I am not sure if this is a warning about the case or about women, but be warned ;-)

Pros: Easy to use, solid, good clamp to know that it is closed. Flash and Flash Diffuser. Price.

Great little housing. The SD 1400 camera and this housing together make a very affordable combination for novice underwater photography with very good results. Good for close-up photography (nudibranches and cleaner shrimp). Also great for kayaking and visiting waterfalls.
Although not all the controls are accessable, the important one can be accessed. This outfit is very small and compact allowing you to carry it in your jacket pocket.

Fits perfectly. closes easily. Can't access all the buttons/functions, but works fine for the basics of still and video shooting. Worked great for 2 snorkel dives, but leaked on 3rd scuba dive. Ruined camera. Probably a few grains of sand on 0-ring seal. Should remove/clean/lube o-ring seal after EACH use. It's easy and probably would have saved my camera.

Comments about WP-DC37 Underwater Housing f/ Canon PowerShot SD1400:

for the money you can't beat the canon underwater housings for their ELPHs.

Works as advertised, super simple, even seems tough.

only downfall is access to more buttons, making changes while in the case, etc. And you can't really zoom in and review pics or play videos after taking them without taking out of the housing; stinks if you want to check focus.
