The sleek and stylish Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 Still Digital Camera (Black) offers many features that help you take impressive-looking pictures. The camera might be ultra-slim (only 0.7", 17.8mm) but the 10.2 Megapixel Exmor R CMOS chip will allow you to make big prints. The camera performs very well under low lighting via its High Sensitivity mode (ISO 3200), Handheld Twilight mode and Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization.
Fast moving subjects are not a problem since the camera can capture 10 frames-per-second. This, along with Motion Detection that adjusts ISO sensitivity and increases the shutter speed when motion is detected, will help ensure that you capture the decisive moment. To really see your subject in motion, the TX5 can capture your videos via the HD Movie mode (720p).
The large 3.0" wide touch screen color display allows easy operation and viewing of images and movies stills, even underwater at depths up to 10' (3 m). The display gives you the ability to select the focus point with a simple touch, scroll through images by sliding your finger across the screen, and one-touch access to the menu. And, shooting in a tight space, the 25mm wide-angle Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4x zoom lens will let you get your shot. Other user friendly features include Intelligent Sweep Panorama, Face Detection, Smile Shutter, Anti-blink, iAudio and many more.
We don't recommend dropping any camera, but don't worry (too much) if the TX5 should slip from your hand; it is shockproof for falls up to approximately 5' (1.5 m) and with its airtight construction it is dustproof as well.

I use this product as a carry anywhere alternative to carrying around my DSLR. The size is perfect to fit into my cargo pocket in my shorts or pants. I like the durability and waterproof features as well. It was a nice feature set and images are exposed correctly even in some tricky lighting situations. Touch screen interface is really easy to use and I much prefer it to buttons. My only complaint is that images tend to be a little soft, but then again, I keep comparing it to my DSLR which I should stop doing.

I have scratches on the touch screen and I've had the camera less than 24 hours! This supposedly rugged camera is anything but. The TX7 which isn't waterproof, shockproof, drop proof, or dust proof has a glass touch screen. Why the heck didn't Sony put one on this camera? Cutting corners is stupid on a $350 camera.
Otherwise the technology Sony puts into these cameras is amazing. The Low Light functions blew me away. Beautiful night time images with no flash!

Familiar photos, landscape, also some marcros, in the pool... everywhere. This camera doesn{t have a big zoom but in a tiny camera that means that the otpics is good, big zoom in compact cameras makes blue lines or red lines in silouetes and iluminated objects. The color is wonderfull in the pictures.

We bought this camera for an out of the country trip. We have a 35mm style camera but wanted a small reliable alternative for the trip. The panorama feature is awsome and the quick response time of the shutter made those flick of the wrist shots look as if you steadied and took the picture.

This is like the swiss army knife of cams. I love mountain biking and wanted a camera that could be durable, waterproof, light weight, and still take awesome pics and vids. This Sony rocks. The pics are crisp. The 10 fps is a great feature for catching the action shots. Low light pics are great. The video is really nice too. I love the big touch screen. Super easy to go through the menu. Oh and the panorama is cool too. And man, is this cam small! I love it!

Camera is fine until you try to take it under water. Battery and USB doors seem to seal just fine so I don't even see a way to prevent this. I owned a Sony DSC-V1 years ago and loved it before upgrading to a Canon SLR. I needed an underwater camera for a vacation and thought Sony would come through. Day 1 of vacation and it's useless, with zero under water pictures to show for it. There's [$] down the drain. Thanks, Sony. You lost a customer.

Great camera, does all the work for you. The panorama feature is very cool. Light weight, easy to use. Worked great for snorkelling. One of the best features is how quickly it turns on and is ready to shot, means you don't miss too much.
only issues i had were 1. position if the lens makes it easy to put your finger in front of it while holding the camera.
2. the touch screen is great, but it is also easy to accidently change your setting. both are minor and would not prevent a high recommendation of this camera

You never think you would use an under water camera but thats because you've probably never have had an under water camera! This camera is excellent and has everything you need! Even though it is only 10mp the quality is as good as higher mp cameras ive seen before!!

Hello,
I'm from Brazil, so I didn't speak english very well. I use this camera to take family photos, but when I put it on the water on the first time the color peeled off and the cover is now shiny silver. Fortunately my TX5 is silver, not black like this one, but my broader TX5 is Black, so now the camera is looking very bad. Beyond that the picture quality is not very good as canon powershot d10 or like other waterproof cameras.

I love that with this camera I can hike around all day and still keep it around to go play with friends at night. The camera gives you many different settings to chose from for those more-than-casual photographers but it's compact and easy to use so the casual/beginner photographer can start and learn on one camera and progress as their interest in photography grows.

I got this just in time for a Caribbean cruise. The pictures were fantastic underwater and above ground. Rich color. A solid improvement over my old Olympus. Very easy to use. Menus and layout are pretty intuitive and the touch screen makes it even better. I wish it would go deeper than 10ft though as I would loved to have taken it scuba diving to 40ft. Would have had a great shot with a sea turtle and barracuda!

PRO's:
Camera profile is slim and feels very sturdy.
- VERY fast to use. You can slide the cover down, take a picture, and slide the cover back up in about two or three seconds. Most cameras won't power up and shut off nearly that fast.
- Excellent picture quality.
- Lots of settings to tweak if you like to make things complicated. Otherwise there's an "Easy" setting which basically just allows you to take great pictures automatically.
- Takes excellent HD video.
CON's:
- Get a spare battery. The compromise for such a small camera, comes with a price - while the battery last for ~250 pics, the use of the HD video will "eat" the battery pretty quick.
- If in the water - will have remaining water traces when slide down the cover
