The sleek and stylish Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 Still Digital Camera (Red) offers many features that help you take impressive-looking pictures. The camera might be ultra-slim (only 0.7", 17.8mm) but the 10.2 Megapixel Exmor R CMOS chip will allow you to make big prints. The camera performs very well under low lighting via its High Sensitivity mode (ISO 3200), Handheld Twilight mode and Optical SteadyShot Image Stabilization.
Fast moving subjects are not a problem since the camera can capture 10 frames-per-second. This, along with Motion Detection that adjusts ISO sensitivity and increases the shutter speed when motion is detected, will help ensure that you capture the decisive moment. To really see your subject in motion, the TX5 can capture your videos via the HD Movie mode (720p).
The large 3.0" wide touch screen color display allows easy operation and viewing of images and movies stills, even underwater at depths up to 10' (3 m). The display gives you the ability to select the focus point with a simple touch, scroll through images by sliding your finger across the screen, and one-touch access to the menu. And, shooting in a tight space, the 25mm wide-angle Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 4x zoom lens will let you get your shot. Other user friendly features include Intelligent Sweep Panorama, Face Detection, Smile Shutter, Anti-blink, iAudio and many more.
We don't recommend dropping any camera, but don't worry (too much) if the TX5 should slip from your hand; it is shockproof for falls up to approximately 5' (1.5 m) and with its airtight construction it is dustproof as well.

The size is excellent, the display too... Easy to use. Underwater photos are impressive! The only thing that could be better is the zoom...

After searching for weeks, finally i found the camera that meets all my requirements. This is the only pocket size camera that is durable, waterproof, shock resistant and still maintains great quality pictures. The movie quality is also great (HD)! I definitely recommend this camera.

Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 Still Digital Camera (Red):
This product is easy to use. Just like anything you use for the first time, you must read the instructions to better understand the product and its capability. I used this product Dec 24, 2010 through Jan 17, 2011 and I am pleased with the pictures. The Sony DSC TX5 point and shoot was a success during gatherings with family and friends. Taking pictures was a crowd pleaser. My family and friends were amazed with the capability of this point and shoot camera. In my research to choose a point and shoot camera, the price and quality of the Sony DSC TX5 camera is reasonable as compared to other brand names of its caliber. There is still much I have to learn about the features of this camera and its capabilities. I first used the camera's simplest features to take pictures of family, friends, animal companions, sceneries, etc. Also, I used my tri-pod and the Sony's self-timer (2 or 10 seconds) to take group pictures which turned out nicely. Just keep in mind the lighting, the environment; the type of camera used or the novice casual photographer could affect the picture result. I would recommend you consider purchasing one of two accessory kits. The kits for the price plus the camera price I believe are well worth the investment. There are other TX cameras starting from the inexpensive TX1 to the expensive TX7 and TX9. The TX1 is an older model and the TX5, TX7, TX9 are newer 2010 models. As most models goes the more expensive has new features but not necessarily the features that you like from older models. So I bought the TX5 for its water proof up to 10 feet, shock proof dropped from 5 feet, dust proof casing. In addition, I bought the Deluxe Accessory Kit (8GB SDHC card, camera case zips close, extra battery, 2 year SAGEMAX protection plan). I like the idea of the 2 year SAGEMAX protection plan incase my TX5 is damaged. Call BH Photo for details on this plan. Also, for the diver enthusiast, there are two types of Marine Packages that provide protection for your camera use down to 132 feet. Taking the SDHC memory card from the Sony DSC TX5 camera to the Canon portable photo printer is a smooth and easy operation to immediately print pictures. I am pleased with the pictures. Though each picture I print may cost a little more than if I were to go elsewhere to have the prints done; just seeing my family and friends joyous smiles outweighs the extra cost for me to print pictures conveniently right there and now. And last of all, I recommend you purchase a sturdy carrier bag to protect your investment. Make sure you purchase a carrier bag that can hold your camera, battery, cords, supplies, accessories, etc. Overall, I am satisfied with my Sony DSC-TX5 purchased through BH Photo Video and look forward to long term use of this camera.

I had an old Olympus 790SW and It had great ease of use, however the picture quality left a lot to be desired. The Sony DSCTX5 takes great shots and I like the touch screen features. I'm not wild about the lens cover slide on off feature. I find myself sliding it on and off by mistake. I use it at the beach a lot and it offers more chance for sand to get behind the cover which the instruction manual warns about. I also find myself sliding it on and off to easily during use. In order to plug in and playback you have to open the battery cover and another cover at the same time leaving more room for error and chance of a foreign object getting behind the seals. But over all a great camera.

I bought this camera to carry in my purse. The dust and shock resistance features were a big selling point for me and the waterproof feature a huge bonus. I have been quite impressed with the speedy way it powers up and also with the amazing low light photos I've taken with it. I have not tested out the waterproof feature yet. The only thing that I think could use improvement would be the zoom. I would love to see a model with a stronger optical zoom.

Great sharp pictures from the best pocket camera ever, we had one of the first of this camera line when it was 5 mega pixel. This one has HD video, great still shots for ever location with the 25mm wide angle bases on a 35mm film lens. Pan still shots are way cool for inside or out. Fast recycle on shots and the best thing is the sharp Carl Zeiss lens that is covered by the sliding bar that turns on the camera and keeps the lens clean, also the lens is not one that extends or retracks that are prone to be easy to damage. Is water proof and shock proof to five feet. And my sister and wife can figure out the menu.
Comments about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-TX5 Still Digital Camera (Red):
I bought this right before a trip abroad. It's small size is great for your bag or pocket. You can almost immediately snap a pic as soon as you turn it on, which is great for capturing the moment before it's too late! One feature I really like is the iSweep panorama. The icing on the cake is that the TX5 is drop proof (up to a meter, I think) and waterproof to 10 feet. The whole reason I needed a new camera is my last one took a swim! I don't believe the TX1 or TX7 are waterproof.
