I'm a full time professional video/still photographer. I used this express card adapter with a MBP 17in. and FCP and a Canon 5D2. It does work. Load the card in the adapter, load into the express card slot, put the CD in and load the drivers. How hard is that?
You can copy/paste the entire file structure onto another hard drive or use a program called shot put pro (for video) to do it for you and verify the transfer bit by bit. That's important when you bring it into FCP's log and transfer.
For stills, I could not get lightroom 2.7 to see the card/express card adapter however. That's still not a deal breaker for me though as I can do a direct copy of the photos from card to hard drive and bring it into lightroom or connect the CF card to my Sandisk FW800 card reader and import into lighroom that way. I like to import into lightroom since it brings them into the Library and copies the contents of the CF at the same time.
This express card slot is much faster than a USB 2 connection. The latter to be avoided at all costs as there is no such thing as high speed USB2 not matter what you read.
The card sticks out of the adapter so be careful you don't so something stupid and give it a good knock! Use it on a flat stable surface, not the back seat of a car.

Comments about SanDisk Extreme Pro ExpressCard Adapter:
The card Crashes my Macbook Pro when I download photos... I have downloaded, Uninstalled, reinstalled, latest drivers (driver 1.1.4) and still Crashes my MacBook Pro. I called Sandisk teck support and they had me Format my 2 Sandisk extreem pro cards. It still Crashes my Macbook pro.... Sandisk is asking me to send them the part and they will send me a replacement when they get the broken part, what the heck is that!!!!!!! They dont trust me enough to send me a replacement part first..... I would gladly have it ready for UPS when they deliver the new Adapter, but NO, they have to wait to receive my part first, This is going to take weeks... Sandisk should get of ther but and Create a drive that works.... Most photographers use Mac's. Well, In a nut shell, I have had nothing but problems with this Reader, I guess I will have to plug directly into my camera and download... Thanks Sandisk for the inconvenience.

This makes my combination of Nikon D700 and MacBook Pro an unbeatable combination. Added Lightroom 3 to my CS5.5 Suite and I'm all set.
Workflow couldn't be easier.

Comments about SanDisk Extreme Pro ExpressCard Adapter:
This card reader is clearly the fastest in terms of transfers when coupled with the Extreme Pro series cards, but its even nice if you have the Extreme series cards as well. I use this on my Macbook Pro 17" in the expresscard slot and its works well but has its quirks. One quirk is that the memory card loads up as a hard drive and not a memory card so photo programs such as Lightroom, will not automatically recognize the card; therefore, you have to manually click on the card and hit import. On rare occasions I do get a kernal panic when importing if using the ExpressCard adapter, but in my opinion, the product is worth the money.

I was very keen to utilise this adaptor once i received it, so you can imagine my disappointment when the card wasn't recognised by my computer nor would it read any of my compact flash cards. I am hoping that SanDisk are aware of this problem that they will soon release an updated patch so I can use this adapter.

I gave it three stars; even though it does what I need it for. When inserting my pro CF card from my Sony camcorder to this device inserted on a Toshiba Windows 7 system, you have to be extremely careful because the internal pins are subject to bending and therefore, does not allow the card to be entered. If there was a way to enter the CF card without concern for the reader's pin it would be rated a straight 5.

This Card Reader works just fine with my PC laptop. If you use UDMA CF cards, it's an essential accessory. On Windows XP, the OS recognizes the card and adapter unit as soon as they are plugged in the cardbus. But, after I upload the included Sandisk drivers, the PC recognizes the card as a "Sandisk" card, assuring proper data transfer. System works perfectly with Nikon Transfer software moving data from the card to the PC, and it's fast.

Comments about SanDisk Extreme Pro ExpressCard Adapter:
Although this item is a great idea I do NOT recommend it. The drivers for this item work very poorly or not at all with Windows 7 64-bit nor with most recent Mac Book Pro. Item repeatedly crashes laptop and the driver conflicts with other Expresscard|34 drivers and hardware. The Sandisk driver had to be uninstalled before other Expresscard|34 hardware would work again. Also several pins to connect the CF card bent over within the first day of use rendering the item completely unusable.

My sample of this cf-adapter is not working up to standard. It stops functioning in the middle of transfers or reviewings in bridge.
To restart the computer I have to take out the battery and kill the machine.
I'm a working photographer and review some 15gb of images on a daily basis. Speed and reliability is rather important.

I use this to download RAW photos from 4,8,and 16GB cards. I am getting over 40Mb/s with Extreme IV cards and with my G-Monster 533X cards I am getting over 60Mb/s. That has reduced download time in half.
The one thing I have had to get used to is that with an ExpressCard you don't just swap out the CF card like a USB device. So you have to do a safe removal of the ExpressCard Adapter, then change the CF and reinsert the Adapter.
Also when you do the the first install you have to have a CF card in the Adapter for the ExpressCard to be installed properly.

This has saved me SO much time! It's easy to install and transfers super fast. I transfered over 1000 pics from my last wedding in about 5 minutes...before it took me about 30 mins or more to transfer straight from my camera via USB. I love this product!

Installation was very easy after I realized you needed to insert a CF card into the reader before putting it into your computer to install, otherwise your computer will not recognize the device, which I discovered thanks to the comments from others on this site. After that slight hurdle, I was all set and the transfer speed is superb! Another great product from a brand I trust.

Hasn't worked since purchased. Tried to go through their help line, and no matter what doesn't work. Only time it did was with a fresh reboot. However, if adapter removed and then re-inserted it needed to be rebooted. Has been replaced THREE times by SanDisk and still doesn't work. Using it on Sony Vaio i7 laptop using Windows 7, 64 bit. According to SanDisk it is a Sony problem, according to Sony it is a SanDisk driver problem! I'm stuck with something that doesn't work!

Professional shooter, Nikon D3 etc. Read the reviews, mmm, purch from B&H, loaded drivers, since then had three kernel freezes, required hard reboot. Running MacBook Pro 17 4GB RAM, 3.0f GHz, Duo.I should have listened to what I read. No mention on SanDisk site. Happened with no software running, also when Aperture open.Very fast when it works, but unreliable.Small, but does extend out a lot from side.Looks like I am keeping the Extreme reader, also Sandisk.

Winning Combo: SanDisk Extreme PRO ExpressCard Reader and a SanDisk Extreme PRO CF card.Use it to download NEF/DNG to a i7 Quad Core Win7 PRO 64-bit ASUS laptop w/ two 7,200 HD.* This Card is FAST !Consistantly Downloads (Windows Copy) 16gb of RAW files in aprox. 5 mins. from a SanDisk Extreme PRO 16gb CF. * Don't forget to put a CF in the ExpressCard and put it into the ExpressCard slot , BEFORE you run the Install disk in Win7 ... IF, you do the install goes Fast and smooth. No Issues.* for everyday use: I would load the CF into the ExpressCard Reader FIRST ... THEN, put it into the ExpressCard slot. (short CF guide)This also solves a issue of the Drive letter not showing up ... or should I say going away after a Long Download and then sitting around (it could be going to sleep)Bottom Line: for my Win7 OS and ASUS laptop this CARD is GREAT! No Issues. My blog on it, with compaire times and more details:[@]

This thing works amazing. Here's the trick. Windows will install it and make it work but if you install the drivers on the cd all the "problems" go away. I was using a usb card reader that downloaded at 5mbs this downloads the same cards at 45mbs! That's 9x faster kids!!!! Sweet!
