The Samsung SMX-F40 Digital Memory Camcorder (Red) records 720 x 480 standard definition video and 1600 x 1200 still images to SD/SDHC memory cards. The F40 utilizes H.264 compression which makes for files that are easy to work with for uploading to social networking sites. The heart of the camera is comprised of a 1/6" CCD image sensor, a Schneider Kreuznach lens, and 65x Intelli-Zoom. And the F40 has a 2.7" LCD for recording and reviewing your video and still images. Other use-friendly features include Face Detection, Auto Focus, interactive thumbnails, and USB battery charging.

I was looking for a simple to use, good quality camcorder. I have found it. Even I (who am technologically challenged in every way) was able to read the directions and start using the camcorder right away. It takes surprisingly good movies in a dimly lit room. The zoom is superb. The instruction manual is a little daunting, however. 131 pages! The camera mode wasn't the best, but I didn't get it to be used as my primary snapshot camera. I really like this camcorder and would recommend it to anyone.

I bought it as a gift for my 11 yr old daughter. She was able to take it out of the box and use it right away (as soon as the battery was charged). So far she has only used it indoors and the image quality is poor at best. Very grainy and not a lot of color (it almost looks black and white). Videos taken with my old Hi-8 tape camcorder look better.

Camera purchased as a gift for wife. Had to be easy to use, ie Push Here Dummy...PHD, and it is! Out of the box very easy to follow limited written instruction. Video is excellent for her use. Still pix good for her use. Haven't downloaded to PC yet, but will assume as easy. She's happy...I'm happy

It was cheap so should not expect much. Focus is not precise. On and off is delayed by up to 8 seconds after button is pushed. Photo mode is near worthless. But...it's almost a disposable camcorder at this price.
