The Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Telephoto Zoom Lens improves upon its predecessor, one of the most acclaimed lenses in the Canon EF line, with superior performance, increased speed and optical quality.
This lens is constructed of 23 elements in 19 groups (including 1 Fluorite and 5 UD elements) which help deliver the sharpness and reduced aberration which professional photographers rely upon from Canon. The IS II Optical Image Stabilizer provides up to 4 stops of correction at all focal lengths.
This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 3.9' (1.2 m) at all zoom settings so you can get the shot when shooting close to your subject even in smaller spaces. Like all Canon L-series lenses, this telephoto zoom is dust- and moisture-resistant and designed to keep on going even in the most challenging of environments.

I have had the lens for a couple weeks shooting various things in various conditions. Having the 2.8 in low light situations has been really nice, and having the shallow depth of field is nice for having blurred out backgrounds for portraits or action shots, it can make the subject pop. I have shot some pet portraits, people portraits, action stuff, and landscape. All of the photos look super sharp, the color is great, the auto focus and IS works really well. In one situation I was hand holding the lens in low light taking pictures of a cat at 1/8 of a second and was able to get sharp images! I have never been able to do that before with another lens.
If I have one complaint about this lens it would be the weight, I hiked with it attached to a Blackrapid RS strap and after the hike my shoulder was killing me.I had the camera on my shoulder for around 7 hours. That's nothing in the big picture though. The lens performs exceptionally well I have seen no issues with it, hardly any color fringing, if any at all. If you are looking at this lens and have the money, buy it. It's a great lens, you won't be disappointed.
I have some sample images below you can check out.

I have been engaged in photography for more than 40 years with a statistical process improvement background. So I was more than interested to see if the 70-200 f-2.8 L II was significantly better than the L I. After 2 days of intensive testing my findings using both an EOS 1DS and 20D body are as follows. Contrast for the L II was slightly better. Resolution at 200mm was consistently 1 pair number lower [less good] at the center at f-2.8, 4.0, and 5.6 on the USAF 1951 resolution chart. Resolution through a series 1 Canon 2X multiplier was equal over the same aperture settings. The extreme edge resolution was seen to be slightly better from images of books on a shelf—"real world". Auto focus was significantly faster in bright light, which may be of benefit depending on what you photograph. Image stabilization is about 1 stop improved, but with the high ISO capabilities of current Canon cameras, a one stop increased setting would equalize this difference at the possible expense of increased noise. I chose not to test another sample, because even if a newer sample were to test one pair number higher [better] than the L I, [a possible manufacturing variation] the improvement would probably not be detectable by viewing a 300 PPI printed version at "normal viewing distance." For my purpose, primarily fine art photography, my results simply do not justify the price. So my advice is to test carefully before committing to an L II purchase; reality vs. your expectations may vary…

Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Telephoto Zoom Lens:
This lens is much more than a medium telephoto. The quality of the optics is immediate when you see your shots. There are times with most lenses that I would need to use my tripod and with this robust IS system I find I can take the same shot handheld. Its heavy but with just a day of familiarity you get used to it and even find it comforting.

I love how clean and crisp my images come out. I love the super fast auto focus on it. The secound focus ring takes a little getting used to but overall a superb purchase. Not as heavy as some say but if your holding the lens for a long time it can get heavy.

I'm an amateur photographer who wants to take my photo into another level. This lens is the sharpest one I've ever use very well built and very nice looking. The only bad thing I can say about this lens is the price if you can afford it buy it you won't regret it.

Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Telephoto Zoom Lens:
This lens is one of my go-to lenses that takes action shots, landscape, and even impromptu portrait shots. Solid build quality and helps me minimize camera shake for when shaking matters (like on a moving train or vehicle in downtown Chicago) in low light settings.
I had the previous non-IS Canon lens which was a fine lens as well, but can't help with shaky vehicles and caffeinated mornings. The new lens is a little taller and heavier I believe. It matters when fatigue sets in after a half hour of shooting.
The looks of the lens is refined including the lens hood. I can walk into any wedding and everyone clears out of my way (well maybe due to the body odor).
Have no need for the extender right now for what I do. I had the extender for the original 70-200mm but decided not to buy it this time around. Don't miss it.

This is a must have for so many reasons.
I use for low-light sports situations as well as lifestyle and portrait sessions.
Although it is heavy, the quality is a good trade-off

Very expensive. I hated to spend this much money for a lens, but the quality and performance are top notch.
I shoot sports for a major University and I need a professional lens.
It performs as advertised. The stabilization feature is nearly silent.

I just purchased the lens so I haven't put it through a full workout yet. However, the color and crispness are very good. The lens is heavey, but I guess that is the cost of a good lens.

I just switched from Nikon to Canon. I expected to have a fall off in the quality of the zoom lens that I was accustom to with Nikon. Not the case. This lens is every bit as fast and sharp as the Nikon, just not as heavy.

Comments about Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM Telephoto Zoom Lens:
The Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS MK2 is simply the best lens in 70-200 f2.8 range. The images are razor sharp, the Ultrasonic motor is very quiet (almost silent) and the AF is extremely fast, even in low light conditions. I've looked into other lenses in this range (Sigma, Tamron), and though these other lenses are very good, the Canon is just in a league of it's own. The Bokeh is much more buttery, the images are razor sharp and the colors are more vivid compared to the others lenses. The price of this lens was much higher compared to the others, but I am very confident that I will get a very high return on my investment because the pictures I can capture with this lens is of a higher quality, and in turn this will help me sell more pictures.
