The Smart-UPS 1000VA LCD 120V from APC provides power to your important computer components in the event of an electrical outage. The Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) contains a battery which continues to power computers, monitors and other components if the electricity is cut from them. An LCD status display provides information including remaining battery life, load capacity, and event notices. The battery is hot-swappable and easy to replace. An audible alarm alerts you of events like power outage and low battery.

Comments about APC Smart-UPS 1000VA LCD 120V:
I bought this to provide backup power to 2 workstation I use as fileservers. One has Ubuntu server, the other is SUSE 11.x as a file server. Integration via USB and apcupsd works like a champ. Both computers will shutdown after the period of time I specified and puts the UPS into standby until the power comes back. And all devices automatically restart. Very sweet.
I choose the size based on power supply ratings and the actual load on the UPS is only about 33% capacity. As it turns out, I could have gone with a smaller unit.

Comments about APC Smart-UPS 1000VA LCD 120V:
Use to backup home file server. Funcional (pull plug, server keeps running) but limited Linux support.
APC has changed communication protocol to "Microlink", and will not license or document it. If you cannot run the APC software (I cannot on my Synology server) you are left with no shutdown when batteries fail. This severely limits the utility of the UPS. APC claims they will have a "Legacy Communication Card" module to support the old-style commands for their new protocol. Sounds to me like APC is taking a page from Microsoft and generating a proprietary "standard" and then *selling* you a compatibility function. Look elsewhere for your UPS needs.

Comments about APC Smart-UPS 1000VA LCD 120V:
I purchased the SMT1000 because the power supply on my computer requires a pure sine wave UPS. This unit did the job but the cooling fan runs almost continuously and is quite loud. Very annoying. To APC's credit, I contacted their tech support and they exchanged it for the much quieter SMX1000.

Comments about APC Smart-UPS 1000VA LCD 120V:
If you have Apple equipment this is for you. [...] Easy to set up, easy to use. Gave me a great sense of security given the power outages, spikes, and surges in our area. Didn't push me to buy direct, as a matter of fact, recommend that we shop around. Of course, B&H had the best price! It's a bit noisy if absolute quiet is your requirement. So far, not a problem for us.
