You are working while on the road and you need to get important documents digitized for e-mailing...the solution is Fujitsu's S1300 ScanSnap Color Mobile Scanner. It is easy to use while at home, in the office, or on the go since it measures approximately 11" (284mm) wide, 3" (77mm) high and weighs a little over 3 lb (1.4 kg). It can be powered via a USB connection to your laptop computer or for desktop use via its included AC adapter. The S1300 scans monochrome and color documents (simplex or duplex) in as fast as 8 pages-per-minute (ppm) at 300 dpi and 150 dpi, respectively.
The S1300 has a 10-page Automatic Document Feeder which can scan (in one pass) single- or double-sided documents, ranging in sizes from business card to Legal with the touch of one button, creating digital files in JPEG or searchable PDF formats. Supplied with easy-to-use productivity software, PC and Mac users can benefit from its many automatic functions such as color detection, media size detection, quality adjustment, de-skew and orientation, and keywording.
The software also allows you to store and manage searchable PDF and JPEG files which can be scanned directly into Word, Excel, and address book applications. Mac users can also scan to iPhoto and even an iDisk account.
For PC users it comes with ScanSnap Organizer v4.1 which provides a productive way to store, manage, and view PDF and JPEG files as well as perform post-scan editing, keyword entry, and searchable PDF conversion. CardMinder v4.1 provides a fast way to capture both sides of a business card, extract the information automatically, and export it to Outlook, Act!, and other contact management software. ABBYY FineReader provides one-button scanning directly to editable Microsoft Word and Excel files.

I bought this scanner after seeing my roommate with a Fujitsu Scansnap S300M. After a week I cant imagine my life without one now! Fujitsu's scanners are super easy to use and the S1300 is no different - once the installation CD was complete I was scanning immediately (didn't bother reading the instructions) as its very user-friendly.
I definitely recommend the S1300 as its fast, easy to use, the quality is amazing considering how compact it is.

After hearing about the S1500 from a friend who swears by it, and after reading the reviews for it, I had high hopes for the S1300. I initially went with the S1300 over the S1500 because of its smaller size and portability. It also costs $170-$200 less than the S1500. After giving the S1300 a fair chance, I reluctantly returned it and got the S1500.
The main problem with the S1300 is the document feeder. Papers tended to be dragged in at an angle. When this happened, the software did an excellent job of correcting the slant. However, often thin papers and receipts jammed the feeder or were incompletely scanned, and ultimately had to be rescanned. In Auto mode, the scanner will usually scan the reverse side of a page even if there is no writing on it because it is very sensitive. With Acrobat 9 (not included with the S1300), you can delete these blank extra pages if necessary.
The S1300's scan quality is very good. The speed is fine when plugged in, but much slower when powered through the USB cable; so in reality, it is not great as a mobile scanner. The software seems a little bit limited in terms of scan resolution settings (i.e., you have to select a color/B&W resolution combination; you cannot just set a color scan resolution independent of the B&W resolution), but it is adequate and easy to use.
I have had the S1500 for one day now and I have had no real issues with it. Compared with the S1300, the document feeder works much better and has not jammed yet. The S1500 is also considerably faster.
If you want a hassle-free, very fast scanner, if you don't really need a small, portable scanner, and if you don't mind paying the difference in price, I recommend the S1500 over the S1300. Otherwise, aside from the issues I mentioned, you can probably get by with the S1300.

I'm using this to go paperless. It is fast, efficient. Both side scanning is good but it sometimes assumes a bleed through is another page but this is easily corrected in the software where you can delete pages. The document holder is supposed to be for 10 pages but you can continue feeding so that a file can be any number of pages. The accuracy is very good and the software accompanying the scanner is also good.

I was referred to this item by a friend who's got one and loves it. I also did a bit of my own research online. So there weren't any big surprises when it arrived. It's pretty straightforward to get going (install the software and plug it in), and it pretty much does exactly what it promises!
Scanning is fast and the quality is good. Sometimes small receipts don't feed through straight, but 90% of the time the software fixes this anyway.
You can scan straight to dropbox, evernote, or a bunch of other options.
The software is a little clunky to use, but it certainly does the job effectively. I am not using the business card database software for the moment.

Great Scanner and worth every Penny.
Does great scans, and duplex scanning is just an incredible timesaver.
The only 'con' is the feeder, which sometimes doesn't get a sheet or takes 2 sheets at the same time. But this happens rarely.
Works with lots of other software.
Considering what I know now, I would buy it again.

I use this scanner to archive all of my old documents, photographs that I want to store, and anything random that I need to save. The one touch scanning button makes it easy to use, and it integrates well with other software. (Whether scanning to a file or to a specific program).

I just recently purchased this scanner after making the decision to take my home to paperless. I immediately began using it for work to streamline the process of scanning documents for customer service reasons. It has been great! Going from a flatbed scanner to one that has a doc tray has been wonderful. I was hopeful it would be as compatible with the mac as they claimed, and so far it has been a breeze to use. It is defiantly plug and play.

excellent small duplex scanner. easy set up, excellent quality. For me it's the ease of use with evernote that makes all the difference. Just make sure you update the driver so you have the built in evernote profiles
The only reason that it has 4 stars instead of 5 is the fact that the mac end of the software seemed a little half baked, compared to the windows side, and the fact that it won't do photo weight paper. Even though the imaging processor is more than capable, most photographs are well outside the useable paper weight (according to what's listed in the user manual).

Main use is disbound magazine articles, books, documentation, etc. with lots of two-sided. Excellent scan quality, fast (especially 300DPI or below). Need to be careful not to overload originals, but that is to be expected with a portable scanner.
Have lots of film and flatbed scanner experience, from Heidelberg to Canon. Very satisfied, highly recommended. I don't use the organizer software, so can't comment there.

I just spent the weekend scanning all of our family important documents into our computer with the scanner. It worked perfectly, no jamming, and was really easy for a non-techno geek to use. It's so easy to send to a file on my computer. We also use another version of this scanner at work and everyone loves it. I recommend the S1300 for home use.

Starting in 2011 my office is going paperless and the S1300 is the key. Easy to use, scanning all documents and shredding originals. Easy to figure out software! I was able to get rid of my fax machine, old flat bed scanner and now have room in my office! A great little tool.

I scan mainly clipped articles for OCR. Duplex scanning is a god-send, image quality is excellent. If you put your originals in neatly there are no problems with jamming; I can take a whole stack ans just keep feeding it. I use other programs for image management; that said, overall the included software is easy to set up and use.
