The 2big Network 2 from LaCie is a NAS that can be used for complete backups of your computers, media servers, and more. The NAS supports RAID 0 and RAID 1, giving you flexibility in storage and security. It also supports hot-swapping in RAID 1, allowing you to quickly change a failed HDD to preserve the integrity of your data.
The NAS sports 4TB of storage space, and has a USB port and an eSATA port for added expandability. The spacious hard drives allow the NAS to function as a server for iTunes or as a Time Machine backup system. It is managed through an intuitive user interface, making the 2big Network 2 a perfect NAS for your needs.
Note! This network drive can only be connected to your computer through a Ethernet connection. The USB and eSATA ports are for expansion only.

Use the product as a 2TB RAID1 network attached drive. Easy to share music, pictures, and data files among all the network computers in the house without having to move the drive from machine to machine. Slower than directly connecting, but infinitely more convenient. I set up the drive in my basement with my router, cable modem, and UPS, so it is out of sight. Once a week I break the RAID and swap in a spare drive. The system remirrors and I take the removed drive offsite.

Terrible Tech Support
Lacie has to make the decision to improve dramatically their Tech Support, because it is perhaps the primary reason that will make clients willing to keep their product or even consider future pruchases.
Lacie has to make the decision to improve dramatically their Tech Support, because it is perhaps the primary reason that will make clients willing to keep their product or even consider future pruchases.
I bought a Lacie 4 TB NAS drive.
It was advertised as easily accessible from the internet from anywhere in the world. I wanted this feature becuase as a traveling consultant need tobe able to access my data remotely. It even says it has an option to use dyndns as a means to help you access it without having to remember your ISP IP address. But their documentation does not provide details as to how to make it work. If you call or email tech suypport, they do not have any idea of what you are talking about. They do not seem to take seriously your request for helping you access the drive's dashboard from the internet and only attempt to give you the option of using FTP to transfer files to/from the drive.
When you insist, they switch the tech support person after one or two posts and respond to your posts once a day, if they answer your question(s) at all. Each new tech support guy does not read the ticket history and tries to start over or answer only a portion of your question, making you lose one more day without resolving your issues. So you can spend many days trying to resolve a problem. If you want to get actual interactive support they want you to pay for it.
After 6 months of limited use (I was not confident of their advertised "features"), I noticed there was an upgrade to the OS to version 2.0.4. I tried to upgrade, but it simply hung at the last step (it stayed in that step for more than 8 hours) causing the OS version to revert back to the original version and all my data to be moved under the admin account. The user accounts were deleted.
If upgrading the OS may cause your data to be relocated and your user accounts lost. in my opinion, the entire product is unreliable.

Comments about LaCie 2big Network 2 (4TB):
This is a fast, stylish and powerful NAS drive! I particularly like that it has an eSATA port, that it can be controlled remotely and that the two HDDs can be combined into a RAID 1 array. 2big Network 2 can work independently, i.e. without being managed by a computer, and can even download torrents, as it comes with a pre-installed torrent client. The enclosure is very strong, made of solid aluminum. The drive doesn't heat and doesn't make any noise during operation. I'm very pleased with it!
Comments about LaCie 2big Network 2 (4TB):
I've had nothing but problems with this drive. It sits on a desk, never moves, and 2 drives have failed in an 8 month period. It is also painfully slow. You cannot even play 1080 video, never mind try to edit off of the drive. The management software is buggy as well. I think network drives in general are more susceptible to having problems, but I would stay away from this one for sure.

We have installed 2big Network 2 at our office to store all of our documents in one place and to have access to them over the Internet. Now all of our users, including remote ones, can work with the server. It's very handy. The setup was simple, the Network Assistance software made it easy. It's a convenient and useful device!

Comments about LaCie 2big Network 2 (4TB):
I use 2big Network as a server for my itunes library. Very practical. I can share access over the network and setup streaming to other computers. I've connected the NAS and the media player to the router and watch photos and videos on the big TV screen. The device looks great and is very quiet. The aluminum casing helps dissipate heat away. Overall, I'm very happy with the product and highly recommend it.

Comments about LaCie 2big Network 2 (4TB):
I'm a web designer working remotely, and I travel a lot. The storage space on my laptop's hard drive is limited, so I thought it would be smart to buy a NAS. 2big Network2 is a great RAID-array with network features. It seemed to be exactly what I needed. If I am away I can access it remotely. It has very decent transfer speed, so it's great for working with large files. I can share access with other users, like my colleagues or clients. Another great feature is that, I can preview image thumbnails before uploading them. This is an excellent storage solution for working on web projects.

True, it is my mistake, but unfortunately I ordered the 2big """NETWORK""" 2 4TB by Lacie instead of the 2big """Quadra"""" 2 4TB by Lacie. The first is designed to only work through the ethernet and is not a storage Hard Drive for photographic images The later is the one for photographers that want to store photos as a back up.
The two look identical accept on the very back and have really close names, but really Lacie, how hard is it to either give them a slightly different look or even a different name to prevent confusion!

Comments about LaCie 2big Network 2 (4TB):
I use it mainly as Network storage for PC (runs on Vista 64-bit), Mac Pro G5 (Leopard), Macbook Intel (Leopard) and PC Laptop (runs WinXP). I haven't noticed and problems with accessing shares from both PC and Macs.
Also, I use it as an external storage for webserver which runs on G5 (Apache2/Joomla 1.6) for storing videos and pictures.
So far everything works great. It is a little bit slow cause it is RAIDed, but fast enough to copy gigs over Gigabit Home Network I have.
