The PST-251 Photo Safe II portable picture storage device from Digital Foci is an easy to use digital camera companion. Imagine being on vacation or shooting on location and you are snapping digital photos or recording video images like crazy. Photo Safe II is the place to store your images so you don't have to worry about using up your memory card. With the Photo Safe II you insert the camera's memory card into the multi-format card reader (compatible with most card formats), and directly download images at a fast rate of up to 5.0MB per second (a full 1GB card can be copied in approximately 3.5 minutes). You can then erase or re-format the card and you are ready to continue shooting.
By simply connecting the Photo Safe II to your computer via its high-speed USB 2.0 port your saved images can be retrieved for editing and sharing. Photo Safe II also functions as an external hard drive and memory card reader so you can back up and archive digital images, music and important files from your computer. Photo Safe II is compatible with both Windows and Mac operating systems. It can be powered by the included rechargeable Lithium-ion battery or via the included AC power supply. The battery is charged via a USB connection to your computer and will deliver up to 80 minutes of continuous operation on a full charge.
The Photo Safe II is compact (about the size of a cell phone or PDA), lightweight (only 9.6 oz, 272.2g), and comes with a carrying case, thus providing the ultimate photo storage convenience both at home and on the go.

If there ever was a technology product that is worth the money, this is it. What a super way to travel-lite that is. No need to pack the laptop...just download the memory card after each shoot, and wala, you've saved your precious images safely to a hard drive. Clear the memory card and you are off to your next round of photos. This "gadget" is easy to use and does the job. In the long run, it is a real return on the investment as you don't need multiple memory cards.

I brought it to 'replace' my many memory cards. I am planning to use my DSLR to shoot video instead of using my Video-cam. I need to HDD back-up while on the go. The product serves the purpose well
Only snag is that I cannot see/confirm my data is uploaded or saved. I get a bit nervous whenever I format my memory card to clear the data.

Comments about Digital Foci PST-251 Photo Safe II (500GB):
I bought a photo safe ii last May from B&H before I went to an Africa trip. It stopped to read memorial card after a month. So I used it as a external hard drive. Until last week it stopped working. Now when I plug it to my computer it asks me to reformat. I don't want to lose all the precious pictures I have taken over a period of a year. So I called the digital foci custom service. No one was answering the phone. I left the message and also emailed their support. I hope I can get some sort of support from them.

Comments about Digital Foci PST-251 Photo Safe II (500GB):
It stopped mounting on my computer until only a few months. Very unreliable, cheaply made and just lousy. The cheap plastic, interface, buttons, etc could all be forgiven if it were reliable. But having a download tool that will just "stop mounting" is unacceptable.

Use it for back-up of digital photographs on location. Nice compact unit seems to work well, but have not had it very long, but so far works as expected and am happy.

B&H was great, but I found the instructions less than clear but what compounded the matter was my inability to get assistance from the manufacturer. I returned the product

After chargibg the battery and hooking up the charger and the USB cables it failed to connect with the computer. After some trouble shooting and a converstion with the manufacturer it was determined that the problem was the USB cable. the Digital Foci factory rep got me another one in two days and it now works just fine. Great little unit. Have bought Car charger adapter, extra batteries and plan to get an adapter so that the batteries can be charged outside the device. Great little unit.

This piece died on me at the end of a critical project. I was unable to access any of the files on it.

I work for a Orientation camp that has 42 different camps operating within. We bought this so that we can gain photos for records and PR material. This Photo Safe 500GB external Drive is perfect. We needed something easy to train many different people on, with an ease of operation and this is EXACTLY what we were looking for. It quickly copies all of the pictures in a speed faster than if we were to use a computer and allows us to charge it and use on the go. Meets all of our expectations with the simple click of a single button once the card is in, and the power is on. Also it is smaller than you think it will be from the pictures. :)
PS If you have it on a flat surface it will do a couple spins in place when its done. Its funny.
