The product, at first glance, does hold the mic loosely, but that is to accommodate for any larger mics that might be used. When using this for a boompole setup, I criss-cross the rubber bands for extra grip and security. Two bands get crossed horizontally in the front and two vertically in the rear so I am "weaving" the mic into a secure position. With this configuration, the shock mount works perfectly!!

While I do feel the Pearstone shock mount was slightly better in handling, this mount seems to be built slightly sturdier. I've already had 2 Pearstone mounts break in exactly the same way. The design of this mount makes that break impossible. The side knobs however are a bit finicky, as the very first time I loosened them, one side popped out entirely, sending its washers flying. Luckily I found them.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:
The Audio Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount fits the smaller shanked mics very well as there are not too many shock mounts available at a reasonable price for these types of mounts. I needed to isolate a Boom Mounted EV vintage PL9 and have found the 8415 to work perfectly! The shank is 19mm on the PL9, fit is good, holds solidly and isolates well from the boom and the sounds a boom can make when moving into another position. The instructions state the mount will handle down to a 12mm shank.... might be a little loose with this small of a diameter but you can cross the bands for a tighter fit.
Overall, very pleased with the product and as usual, B&H Photo provided excellent service with fast shipping.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:
Bought the B&H basic Kit that comes with this mount and the PearStone Shock Bands, but I am not able to use since the bands get cut as you put them in the grooves. The grooves are way way too small for these bands.[...] but as some of the other owners brought out you may need to dremel it to make it wider. The bands that come with it are pretty weak if you are using a heavy mic.So for now I am going to give it 3 stars until I am able to use it.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:
This is a versatile shock mount. The only problem I had was with the pearstone suspension mounts(b&h kit) The mount needed to be modified because the pearstone mounts are 3X thicker than the grooves in the AT shock mount bracket. I really like this mount but you should plan on a little rework with a Dremel so you don't destroy the pearstone suspension mounts. It took me about 1.5 hours and some touch up paint.

Works as expected. It holds a mic, thats all it needs to do. price seems high for what you get but quality looks better than others for same price.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:
If this is used with a shotgun mic, you have to cross the bands to have it hold securely. Once you figure that out, it works great.
And don't bother with the kit that BH offers that includes the Pearstone silicone bands. They don't fit this mount!
Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:
Very sturdy, not made from plastic which can break easily. Excellent use for shotgun mics.

This shockmount is made out of metal, unlike my previous shockmount which was made of plastic.
To mount to a video camera you'll need the shoe mount adapter (which is also made out metal).

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:
Looks and feels solid, not like a lot of the others. not length adjustable so you will not be able to hold smaller mics. Does not come with inset bushing for 1/4 inch of most smaller boom arms so you have to buy that separately

I use this mount with a flexible boom arm to do my own podcasting for a writing class. The sound isolation is great. However, I use it with a shotgun mic, and there's a little more play than I like. I would buy this again, though.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:
I've used this shock mount on a couple of small shoots for interviews. Used it with a Senheiser mic and a Rycote Softie sock. The mount seems to be very strong, and I'm not at all concerned about it breaking, which is why I bought it--the mount that came with the boom mic (Rode SM3) was plastic and broke far too easily in numerous different places. Two weaknesses I see are that it holds the mic loosely, and over time, the mic slides forward out of the shock mount and needs to be re-adjusted. Not a huge deal as it's quite manageable. Second, it does not mount on a camera, as my original shock mount did, though I suppose that's not so much a weakness, but rather a missing feature.

I use it for Sit-Down interviews in the documentaries. It does a grate job for an affordable price. Of course it is far from being the best mount for a mic but sometimes this is ALL YOU NEED for a decent sound.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:
This is used in independent film location shooting combined with a carbon fiber fish pole. The only drawback with this shock mount are the bands. In order to support the weight of the microphone, I have to twist two of the bands. Other than that, the versatility of the entire unit is valuable for the work we do.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:
I just received this, so my review is based on inspection not use. But my previous experience with the plastic shock mounts was terrible. They started falling apart as soon as I got them. These are aluminum, and look like they're built to last. Also, they're designed to work with a boom pole, which I don't think the others were.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:
I bought this one to replace the last one I had that we used at work (exact same model), which was just wonderful until the mount snapped off from the boom pole. I guess it had gotten worn down over the years (the equipment from the now defunct AV department there seems centuries old), and got flimsy near the screw area and finally, one day, it snapped off. I think the trick to keeping it in tip-top shape is to screw it on and off, as needed. Boom poles get banged around sometimes, and these shock mounts can get pretty battered in the process. So, overall, we're very happy with it, but I suppose it would be nice if it wasn't quite so malleable and delicate and ultimately, breakable.

Comments about Audio-Technica AT8415 Universal Shock Mount:
I bought this as second/backup unit for my ME66 mic, it is a little loose and I would not trust it on a boom pole. I was hoping to use this but I may have to fork over the dough for a blimp. I use it with a desktop mic stand and it works fine, the ME66 with a Rycote softie is almost too heavy for this set up. The rubber bands seem to stretch a lot under the load compared to the unit that came with my BH mic package.
