The Kata KT DR-466I-BR Digital Rucksack (Red) is designed to carry and protect a digital SLR camera with an attached lens, 3-4 additional lenses, flash, tripod, , laptop computer personal gear and accessories. The pack is made from reinforced Nycore grid with EVA + PE closed-cell foam interior, smooth Yelloop interior lining and TST Rib structured protection. It easily converts to a rucksack from a camera backpack by removing the padded bottom camera insert. There is a main compartment that holds a digital SLR camera in the top grip position; while the modular divider system will separate, organize and protect lenses, flashes and other accessories, and a large top compartment that will hold personal gear or additional equipment. A dedicated rear padded compartment will protect most laptop computers up to 14" or hold paperwork.
The Digital Rucksack has internal pockets, an MP3 player pouch, external zippered pockets that allow quick access to supplies and a water bottle/tripod support pocket that pulls out from a side pocket. Loop on both shoulder straps allows connection of external pouches to carry a cell phone or mp3 player. An included yellow rain cover; folds neatly away into an integrated pocket and can be hung out to dry on the small buckle next to the handle, or tucked away for storage in one of the pockets. The pack is carried by a molded handle or a backpack harness. EPH system compatibility allows attachment of an optional torso pack or waist pack.

Overall I was very happy with the backpack, but my one gripe (and the reason I returned it) was that the laptop compartment was too small for my 15" macbook pro. I was able to zip up the compartment but the corners of the macbook clearly were up against the edges and could easily be dented from a bump in those areas. The zipper struggled to close.
I decided to bump up to the larger DR-467 and that fit the macbook much better with room for wiggle and protection. Plus the 467 has a slightly wider top compartment for more of your junk.

The DR-466I is my first Kata product, and I'm very impressed. I needed a camera backpack for hiking on my recent trip to Grand Teton NP. I was looking for a backpack with a laptop/ hydration storage and a tripod holder. This bag achieved all my needs.
I hiked more than 17 miles over 2 days in Grand Teton NP with the DR-466I completely full and have no complaints about the bag. Though this bag is not advertised to have hydration storage, I used the laptop compartment for a 3liter hydration bladder and it worked perfect. In the bottom compartment I carried a Nikon D7000, Nikkor 18-200 and Nikkor 10-24 with extra room to spare. In the top compartment was a lens cleaning kit, extra socks, long sleeve shirt and lunch. The tripod holder worked great for my Slik Sprint Pro.
The DR-466I replaced my Lowepro Slingshot 100 AW. I used the Slinghshot for 2 years and was partial to the sling style for easy access to my camera. I considered Kata's sling style bags, but they don't have a combo of laptop compartment and tripod holder. The features of the 466 make it a good tradeoff. Even though the 466I is not a sling style bag, it still provides easy access equipment. I didn't feel cumbersome accessing my equipment during the trip.
As for bag size, I'm 5'9" and a 165lb's, so the 466 was a better choice over the 477. The 477 will hold more of everything, but would be too bulky for a hiking daypack for a guy of my size. I borrowed a friends 477 to compare.
This product is a high quality bag for a good price. The material, zippers and construction of this Kata bag are excellent. The shoulder straps and back cushioning are also excellent. My only recommendation would be to add a padded waste strap vs a bare strap, this would help with long day hikes. I would definitely recommend this bag to a friend.
Before purchasing this bag I went to a local retailer and carried my hydration pouch and 13' Macbook to determine the best buy. The Kata DR-466I was a better fit for my needs over Lowepro's, Clik Elite's, Tamrac's and Tenba's comparable products.

The macbook 15 wont fit comfortably in this bag.. You also have to remove the pads if you really want to. The next size up is better.
I do have a problem w thr zipper location. You pull down which makes it dangerous to put something valuable in it. Forget to zip up and your stuff is bye bye. It doesnt have any zipped pocket inside so i couldnt find a spot to keep filled memory cards.
The waterbottle is almost useless.
I cant wait for them to fix these tiny problem on the next version. Is still a nice noncamers looking backpack.

Kata has to be the biggest bargain of all time. It is amazing that one could pay over $100 for a simple wallet, when this fine and very creative bag has it all and more for only [$] Kata designers should commended on the number of fronts. This Bag does it all in fashiion, style and comfort. No need to sped more If you do, you will still get less than what this fine bag offers. Highly recommended,

The bottom outside section that holds the camera and flash opens enough to get the gear out but not so much that anything will fall out. It makes it easy to get the camera out while standing walking. It has a little stuffsack for the rain cover. Nice inside color. Doesn't look too much like a camera case, and I like that camo. I'm an average-size woman, and it's a little bulky and the straps are too widely spaced across the shoulders for long-term comfort.

A handy bag for photo enthusiast. Comfortable bag to carry. It gets heavy with the laptop and the camera along with the accessories. I like the way the bag is built, has great padded straps and back.

I purchased this bag to use on a trip. It is constructed well, nicely padded, plenty of space for camera gear and extras, and attractive. It is also large ... at least for me, a 5' gal. Although I would loved to have kept this bag, I did return it because of its size.

In this backpack I can hold my Canon EOS 40D with attached EF-S 17-85mm lens, a EF 50mm lens, a EF 75-300mm lens, filters, charger, batteries, memory cards, plus several other small accessories and still leaving plenty of space in the top compartment for personal items. In the laptop compartment I can fit my 13" Apple Macbook or my iPad and I can also attach a drinking bottle or small tripod to the side of the bag using the stow-able pouch. It would have been nice if they had included one of these on each side so that you could carry a bottle and tripod at the same time but it's not a deal-breaker and in the end this is a smart looking bag that's relatively compact and looks more like a regular daypack than most of the other camera bags.

Great:
1. Bang for the buck
-this is one of the best priced laptop+DSLR bag in the market
2. Good quality
-sufficient padding and compartments
3. Ergonomic
-well built, weight evenly distributed
-I don't think it will have even distribution with the tripod on the side, but that is to be expected.
