Well im mostly a urban photographer and my work involves alot of outdoor photography and this backpack is amazing to use specially when light equiptment is involved, i usually carry my 5d mark2 with a 24-70 f2.8 lens attached to it a 50mm f1.2 and a 480 ex2 speedlite with me on the back pack and is very agile considering the weight i do also have lens cleaning accessories, a shotgun microphone extra AA batteries and the bag does all this and still has room for plenty more.futhermore it feels very comfortable on your back, ive rarely felt like ive been carryin it all day!!and as far as water resistance goes i dont see why you require a yellow bag cover provided with all kata bags, infact ive been splashed upon quite a few times while on a photoshoot for jetskis and it hardly penetrated it.If i was asked to recommend it i definetly would it has unmatched comfort and solidness in its class, it might not be the best bag in the world but for carrying a few equipment on a hike, exploring new places, this bag is perfect as it extends the boundaries you the photographer can experience.

If you travel a lot or go on hikes or camping, this is the right bag for you! It fits 4 lenses and camera in the bottom compartment. The top compartment you can put some snacks, clothes, phone and a lot more. There is also zippers where I have my extra batteries, SD cards, and cables in. The padding is great, my equipment are totally safe in this rucksack. It also has a spot for water bottles or tripod/monopods, I have my monopod in there and it fits perfectly!

The bag comes on handy in your everyday scenario, the placement of the main compartment gives the photographer the luxury to remove the camera and capture that vital moment without having to place the bag flat on the ground or having problems in getting the camera out, i have a Rebel T2i with a grip attached to a 18-135mm efs lens with a flash and small diffuser and fits quite tight but gets in to the main camera compartment without hassle, the only downfall would be the volume and size of the main camera compartment there hasn't been any change of size from its predecessor, other than the main compartment size, it works fine with 1-3 lenses, a flash, video mic and other photography essentials efficiently!

I do a lot of wedding photography and transporting my gear is difficult at times. I got this bag because the dimensions seemed roomy and there appeared to be plenty of padding.
Once I received the bag, I had to make sure everything fit properly. I have a gripped 7D and usually leave my 24-105 f/4L on it with the hood backwards. It fits nicely with a 50mm and a 70-200 also in the bottom. Accessing it can be a bit of a challenge, as the storage part cantilevers out of the bag.
The top is roughly the size of a volleyball. It stores my 580EX II, a GF lightsphere and other assorted items. It's very comfortable on the back when wearing it.
For my occasional landscape photos when out hiking, it never gets too heavy or feels like it could fall off.
I only rated it 4 stars because sometimes the storage compartment is difficult to put back into the bag due to the design.

I wanted something that could safely handle all of my camera gear, laptop,Itouch etc.. along with all the cords and chargers. I didn't want it to be too huge, and I also didn't want to spend a fortune. I researched just about every bag on the market and I finally settled on this one. It's just about perfect. You can read all the product details for the specifics, but I can honestly tell you, this is the best value on the market in it's category.

I have used the product for a few weeks and it has been just what I wanted. I searched for a long time in stores and online to find the perfect bag for my DSLR and laptop. It is comfortable and not too large, yet it holds everything I need. I like that the camera passing comes out and I can use it in another bag (like my Vera Bradley ones!). I highly recommend this product and would buy from Kata and B&H again.

This pack is essentially going to become my guerrilla production pack. The bottom compartment has padded dividers for your lenses and camera and the upper compartment is a bare space for additional items (where I'll store sound gear--HD audio recorder, mic and xlr cable). Then you have your space for a laptop and a few smaller pockets.
I'm giving this 4 stars because getting to the camera and lenses isn't as accessible as I'd like. You unzip it all the way and it awkwardly rotates out. I've also found it's easier to store lenses and camera separate (not ideal if you need to get your camera out quickly).
I also have the lowepro pro runner 200, which I think is a lot more accessible and a more comfortable design--it's just a lot smaller.
Overall, it is a well made backpack, but I'm wishing I would've stuck with the lowepro brand.

This bag is great for carrying a camera, mics and other audio equipment and great, strong pocket for laptop. The only problem is that you can't take that many lenses. You can only fit a body w/ lens attached and two other non-telephoto lenses. No white lenses :(
But overall it's great for going to a shoot.

I've had the bag for 4 days. Fantastic bag for the price. I was looking for a versatile bag to carry my gear amongst other items. The removable camera section is fantastic and adds to flexibility of the bag to be used as a simple backpack. Padding is good. Waist strap and chest strap could use more padding. I only other bag I found with similar utility (laptop, camera, full backpack) was from Booq at a considerably higher price. Material, fit, and finish appeared to be higher from Booq, but I wasn't prepared to invest $$$ into a bag that I would only be using less than 1-2 times a month. Great thing about both these bags is that it does not appear to be a camera bag and does not draw attention to your gear.

This bag is durable and protects camera and computer equipment nicely. I am able to put my Canon T2i with 3 different lenses in the camera compartment. My HP Pavilion 17" laptop (with the larger extended battery) fits perfectly. Additionally there is room for cords, chargers, and several misc items. I even have ample room for a book and/or binoculars. The bag fits nicely on my back and has a great carrying handle. All in all this backpack is perfect.

I ordered this camera backpack right before my vacation to the mountains. I have a 7D and one extra lens and needed something to protect them on my travels. I'm really glad I went with this bag. As far as functionality, it did properly holds the items I needed it hold and was able to access them quickly. I also really liked it because it looked more like a traditional backpack and less like a fancy camera bag.
It was a good bag for me to take on a plane, as it easily held my gear, magazines, snacks and iPod. I did not bring a laptop, but it looks like a slim one could easily fit, too. It was comfortable to carry around and it was nice that has that strap that lets it slide into my suitcase's rolling bag handle.
The main reason I wanted a Kata bag was to protect the camera. And I'm really glad I went with this bag. I took it mountain biking and I think it saved the camera (and maybe my back during a fall). I was peddling through a switchback when I got knocked off my bike. I landed on my back, directly on the backpack. It shook me up, but I didn't get hurt. I didn't even feel the sensation of the camera jabbing into my back. It felt even and cushioning. I think there were even rocks underneath me, which the bag may have prevented from hurting my back. I was really concerned that I probably broke the camera or lenses, since they were sandwiched between 230 lb me and the rocks underneath. The camera seemed to be okay. The only problem was that I had not zipped up the camera pouch properly, as I had pulled both zippers to meet in the middle and not pulled them tight together. We I fell, gravity pulled me down the mountain head first and fine dirt filled the compartment. I should have zipped it up together at the bottom. Fortunately, the 7D is very weather resistant and I don't think there is any dust damage to the camera.
I would definitely recommend this bag as light travel bag for someone who doesn't carry a ton of gear. It has exceeded my expectations and believe it saved me from breaking my camera and maybe my back.

I bought this bag b/c of its multipurpose nature and it does not disappoint. I carry a Nikon D90 w/ 3 lenses and accessories as well as a 17" Macbook Pro on any given day. It also has room for several other small electronics, books or large water bottle in the top compartment. The Tripod strap is perfect for small/lightweight tripods (nothing too heavy duty though.
Only complaint is that the waist strap is a little small. Otherwise its a perfect bag.

I got this bag a few weeks ago and it already replaced my Targus notebook bag which really like. This bag is just great. I has a plenty of room to keep the gear - fits camera and 5 lens, has a lot of pockets - that I like the most - thus all accessories could be arranged and spread between the pockets. The bag feels solid and nice made. Access to camera compartment is not super fast - need to take the bag off - but still it is not a problem at all.
In overall - a great bag not only for camera and lens - but for travel and casual use.

I bought this bag for a 7D, a couple of lenses, a tripod and my mid 2009 17" MacBookPro and it all fits!
I have seen reviews going both ways as to whether the 17" MacBook Pro would fit and was a little concerned when ordering it. I found that it fits perfectly if you remove the extra padding strip from the bottom of the computer compartment. If you do not remove it, it is too tight to close the zipper.
Also, the backpack is a little stiff, probably because it is extremely well built, and I hope it loosens up some. If not, I am not concerned because it is definitely constructed so that my gear is protected and that is the most important thing. This stiffness does make it very slightly difficult when moving around between compartments and hopefully that will loosen up in time.
I like that there is a zipper that opens between the top and bottom compartments allowing for one large compartment giving the bag more versatility.
***One drawback though it the pouch on the side that is pictured holding a tripod. The pouch on mine is so small that I can barely fit a small water bottle in it and it does not really stretch. You can make it work but fitting all 3 (or even 2) legs of the tripod is impossibly unless it's a miniature tabletop version.
Overall, this bag is very well built using high quality materials that appear to have a lot of durability in them. Most importantly it fits what I need it to and also is sized right to be airline carry-on.

I bought this rucksack specifically so I could carry my laptop and camera in one bag for a trip. Unloaded, the bag is extremely lightweight but still feels rugged. I don't expect any tears or wearing any time soon.
The compartments are roomy and easy to access. The yellow interior made it easy to find smaller items. I did use the water bottle harness, but it really only fits a 20 oz or smaller bottle. The only negative was that the straps ran long and when I carried the bag by the top handle, the straps would drag on the floor. Had to be very careful on escalators!
It was well worth the price I paid for it.

I stressed on which backpack bag to purchase. I looked at the Lowepro Versapack and this bag. I wanted a tripod holder and space big enough to handle a body with a battery grip.I decided on the Kata over the Versapack specifically stated that it held a body without a battery grip.I used the Kata bag to photograph an ultramarathon in the Dolly Sods Wilderness. [@] It held all my camera gear, a Benro Travel Angel tripod, snacks, a poncho and a camp stool with room to spare. It was well balanced and compfortable. The tripod leg hold is still too small with the 467i (i=improved), but I extended two legs and secured it with the new tripod strap. I thought it was going to hit my shoulder while I walked but that was not the case.Since the 465 and 466 esentially have the same sized padded camera area as the 467 if you don't have a need to carry a 17" laptop I would opt for the 466. The bag is quite heavy with a laptop. You may want the smaller bag if you travel internationally where carryon bag size is limited. The final plus over the over brand it the trolley strap that allows you to slide the bag over the handle of a carryone wheeled suitcase.

Very well designed and constructed. Clearly not just a book bag modified for cameras. Perfect for my needs. When I travel, I take my laptop and my camera. Now I need only one bag.
