The PA20R from Califone is a compact and powerful handheld megaphone. The megaphone is constructed from ABS plastic for lasting durability. We used this inside a gym to organize 300+ people for a photoshoot. It was just OK. The person who was using it couldn't figure it out for a few minutes; so you have to play with it a bit to see how the trigger and mic work together. I don't think the volume adjustment gets loud enough and you DO have to speak close into the mic and enunciate. The hand held mic feels cheap - it's hollow plastic. Before purchasing it, I thought you could detach the mic completely and speak into one end of the megaphone, but one must always use the mic; the mic only detaches to the point of holding it in your hand. So there ends up to be a couple of things that dangle from it -- the shoulder strap and mic cord -- makes it feels messy to me. There was a little bit of feedback from it when I held down the trigger... not sure why. But it's not bad. It works and it was a decent price.

I used this megaphone to shout over 20 minutes of electronic chaos in which I created using live 1990's era synths. I shouted many obscure phrases that made no sense and they came through loud and clear via the megaphone. Even if you're not dressed up like a pack animal like I was, I still recommend using this loudspeaker to exacerbate your inner weirdo.
