The Gitzo GH1781QR Series 1 Basalt Center Ball Head with a Quick Release system is extremely well balanced and is capable of supporting heavy equipment up to 22.5 lb (10 kg). This device's main component, Gitzo's Bubble Ball, features an ultra-thin wall for weight reduction and helps to deliver a head with accurate adjustments, a low center of gravity, and smooth, precise tilts ranging from 95° to -13° in addition to 360° panning.
A center Spring Assisted Double Lock (SADL) combines two locking systems in one, which maximizes both locking power and ball smoothness. The Quick Release system provides for fast removal and replacement of your equipment and it is built with three bubble levels on the quick release plate plus one in the ball stem for highly accurate positioning.

Comments about Gitzo GH1781QR Series 1 Basalt Center Ball Head with Quick Release:
I have been using the Gitzo ballhead on my monopod as well as on my tripod. Although I also like using my monopod w/o a ballhead, the Gitzo makes it easier for me to capture birds in flight. I like how quickly and easily I can loosen or tighten the ballhead and the pan lock. Panning is smooth and it allows me to follow a bird in flight and/or at least follow a bird of prey so I'm ready if it comes back in range. I'm also confident that this ballhead will handle larger telephoto lenses with ease. I'm happy with this purchase.

Comments about Gitzo GH1781QR Series 1 Basalt Center Ball Head with Quick Release:
We just got this product few days ago. Mainly use for taking family pictures with our new born. It is a super durable and almost you can get your shots whatever angle you need but you really need to know how to get use to it. Gitzo is really a brand that you can trust regardless how extreme position that you are trying you camera won't fall(except you use it beyond what it design for.)
The only thing it bugs me, is the quick release. the first time I am inserting to the plate has already made some scratches. It MUST insert flatly to the slot otherwise you will get it stuck and it could be really hard to get it back out (scratch will surely happen). It kind of missed the point of quick release especially with that price it should be a little better than that.

Comments about Gitzo GH1781QR Series 1 Basalt Center Ball Head with Quick Release:
i'll give this head four stars. in my opinion the head should perform better, especially for the money. i use this on a manfrotto monopod, Canon dslr's w/200mm and 400mm telephoto lenses. i wanted a head that i could slightly adjust when needed, like tilt up and down. the head does this to some degree but not as smooth as i would like.
maybe i just need to get used to it more.
