Zacuto's Z-Finder Jr. optical viewfinder is a cost-effective tool for achieving sharp, stable video on DSLR cameras like the Canon 5D MkII, 7D, Nikon D90, D300s and others. Whether shooting handheld or on a tripod, the Z-Finder Jr. turns your camera's 3" LCD screen into a clear, easy-to-focus viewfinder that lets you see your image in magnified detail even under the brightest sunlight. Just as crucially, the Z-Finder Jr. provides an extra degree of handling comfort and a crucial point of contact--between camera and eye--that adds stability to any handheld video.

The Z-Finder Jr. is a smaller, lower-cost alternative to the Pro 2.5x and 3.5x versions, and does not include a diopter, Gorilla Plate mounting system, or anti-fog lens. But like its big brothers, its 2.5x magnification enlarges the LCD image so you can see every detail for pinpoint focus. Meanwhile, its -2.75 focal point can be adjusted to your eyesight by using the included extender frames.

The Z-Finder Jr. attaches to your camera via a supplied mounting bracket that fits between camera and tripod and extends behind the LCD screen to hold the Z-Finder in place. This does not allow for quick-release but, as with the Z-Finder v2, you can also mount the Jr. using a Snap Fit Mounting Frame (also included). Once detached, the unit can hang conveniently around your neck from the included lanyard.

Note! For use with taller-bodied cameras such as the Canon 1D Mark IV and Nikon D3S, optional Gorilla Plate and Z-MFT mounting frame are required.

2.5x magnification
40mm diameter lens for excellent light throughput
Allows DSLR cameras to have correct form factor for video
Field of view perfectly matches 3" LCD screen size
-2.75 focal point is adjustable by stacking extender frames

Note:The Z-finder is a magnifier and as such will magnify the sun and could damage the LCD screen if the sun is allowed to shine directly through the Z-finder lens. This is not a defect but a physical property. Caution should be taken to avoid sun magnification.

    Comments about Zacuto Z-Finder Jr.:

The z-finder Jr. is really helpful.

I've found that on shots where tracking is necessary, the z-finder makes focusing 10 times easier. It's also very helpful on bright sunny days.

I give 2 out of 5 for this product because it is really overpriced. Zacuto products are built well but the form factor is bad.

The z-finder Sr. isn't worth the money. Just get the Jr. and you'll be happy.

I use it on my HDSLR, model Canon 5D Mk II and it helps a lot to get better view angle and during focusing. I tend to use Z-finder at strong sunlight and night as well.

I highly recommend a Zacuto eyepiece for the DSLR if you plan on shootig any outdoor video. It is difficult to set the exposure accuratly and get a solid focus on the highly exposed LCD withou this tool

      Comments about Zacuto Z-Finder Jr.:

This a useful piece of kit for my 7D. It magnifies the screen to the perfect size and gives you a crystal clear view. Getting that perfect focus is now so much easier. The build quality is solid and heavy duty, I'm glad I went with Zacuto. The supplied metal bracket mount was hard to setup correctly, and didn't seem like a good fit, but they also include the traditional peel and stick frame for the back of the camera.

      Comments about Zacuto Z-Finder Jr.:

Let's start this off by saying that this is a great product. I use it with a Canon T2i and its is nearly perfect. Adds a little bit of stabilization by making contact with my face, gives a near-perfect image with almost no distortion, and does its job by allowing for faster focus pulling. As a package, I am happy I bought it and it has and will serve its purpose well. The only problem with the package is the mounting bracket. It's pretty useless. The sticky mount is infinitely better. A non-issue because it comes with each and it may fit your style better than mine. It also doesn't have a diopter, which again is a non-issue for me because I don't need one. Now, my only issue is the price. Almost $250. It is worth every dollar I spent I think, but is it for you? The LCDVF, while giving a 2X magnification may be a better bang for your buck and they are coming out with a T2i specific versions soon, as well as other more affordable options like the Hoodloupe with 3X eyepiece.I'm glad I bought it, but take the hefty price into consideration. If you wear eye-glasses, go for the Z-Finder Pro with the diopter. Getting several extension brackets, in my opinion, isn't worth the effort. Before buying: See if you can try using a Z-Finder or any other viewfinder system. It's a different shooting experience and is not for everyone.Bottom Line: If a you want an SLR Viewfinder, its pricey, but the Z-Finder Jr. is definitely worth it.

            Comments about Zacuto Z-Finder Jr.:

Background info: I use this with the T2i/550D. My feedback may not be applicable to other camera types.

So I got the guts after reading many many reviews on the Hoodman, LCDVF, zacuto viewfinders, and DIY solutions. I have to say - the lcd screen looks amazingly sharp using the z finder jr. If you can get it to mount right.

I'm not sure if I'm mounting it right, but if you just happen to nudge the viewfinder, you can end up with a shifted viewfinder. It doesn't come with instructions - you have to figure it out yourself. Granted that it is a very simplistic design, I would think that instructions would be included regardless if its a "some assembly required" type product. If you don't happen to notice, all your footage could be skewed one way or the other.

For the price point, I would think that having it defogged or including defogging wipes would be a good way to keep customers happy while using this product. The viewfinder will fog after a few seconds of use. I thought I would be able to deal with the fogging, but it actually is annoying. If you have the extra cash, I'd upgrade to one of the other zacuto viewfinders.

Overall, you will be happy with the viewfinders ability to show you your LCD screen with sharp clarity, and to show the entire screen (when mounted correctly).

Minus 1 star for the assembly (easily nudged, no instructions)
Minus 1 star for not including defogging wipes (or a better solution) for a viewfinder that will surely fog for the price point.

            Comments about Zacuto Z-Finder Jr.:

I don't see the problem with not having the adjustable eyepiece -but then again, my eyes are fine. The unit is nicely made. But the mounting bracket is a poor design and entirely inadequate. The old mounting system would be preferable, and that is what I am going to pursue. Plus they give you absolutely no instructions or documentation with this. Guess you are supposed to figure it out.
