This Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO Lens is for digital SLR cameras with a Sony/ Minolta lens mount. It is an ultra telephoto zoom lens ideal for nature, wildlife, or sports photography. This zoom range translates into an equivalent range of 225-750mm when used with digital SLR cameras with an APS size chip. The lens is also compatible with full frame cameras.

The OS (Optical Stabilizer) system minimizes image blur caused by camera shake, and offers the equivalent of shooting at a shutter speed 3-4 stops faster. This allows handheld telephoto zoom shooting even in poorly lit conditions.

The use of the OS (Optical Stabilizer) system, HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor), APO apochromatic design, three elements of SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass, and multicoated optics all enable this lens to provide a high level of performance throughout its entire zoom range, as well as versatility. A rear focus system insures quick, convenient manual focus and a non-rotating front barrel.

The improved DG lens design corrects for various aberrations. This lens is specially coated to get the best color balance, while cutting down on ghosting caused by reflections from the digital image sensor. The lens provides the utmost correction against lateral chromatic aberration, which is a serious problem for digital SLR cameras.

By adding the optional Sigma APO teleconverter, you can use this lens as a 210-700mm f/7-9 manual focus ultra-telephoto zoom lens with a 1.4X EX teleconverter, or as a 300-1000mm f/10-13 manual focus ultra-telephoto zoom lens with a 2X teleconverter.

Observação! If the camera body does not support the HSM motor, auto focus will not work.

Designed for use with full frame digital SLR cameras. May also be used with smaller APS-C size sensors with a corresponding effective increase in focal length to about 225 to 750mm with most cameras.
The OS system uses two sensors inside the lens to detect vertical and horizontal movement of the camera. It works by moving an optical image stabilizing lens group, to effectively compensate for camera shake. It automatically detects movement of the camera and compensates for camera shake when shooting a moving subject such as motor sports.
The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) system ensures quiet and high-speed auto focusing with full time manual focus override.
Three Special Low Dispersion (SLD) elements provide excellent correction for chromatic aberration.
The improved DG lens design corrects for various aberrations.
Super Multi Layer (SML) coating reduces ghost and flare.

Comments about Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO Autofocus Lens:

I use this for some sports photography and some amateur nature stuff. For the price, it is hard to see beyond it. Focus works well, aperture is flexible enough to use higher shutter speeds for the sports and the zoom has a nice "feel" to it, by which I mean not too fast or too slow. The only downside, and it's the price you pay for a 500mm zoom I guess, is the weight;- unless you can bench 180 a mono/tripod is really a must. Overall though, would I recommend it? Absolutely.

Comments about Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO Autofocus Lens:

first off, I use this lens for birding, and I crop all the time. THIS IS SHARP!!!! the hsm motor really is fast and silent, so silent I have to check to make sure anything happened. f 6.3 really is ok for birds, you just make sure your angle is as bright as you can find. be prepared to shoot at iso 400-800 regularly, but on my trusty a580 this is no problem. (looking forward to a77!!) the bokeh is very nice, rather calming in a sense. in terms of sharpness, this is fantastic. you just have to make sure the camera is getting perfect focus, and WOW! the beak on a cardinal I just shot cut my thumb!!!! (no wait- that was my scissors, but still....) so yeah, don't think this isn't sharp against like the 70-400 G lens. although the 70-400 probobly is that tad sharper, this becomes irrelevent when the price comes into consideration. I mean, one grand for a 500mm lens that is razor sharp is unbelivable. one thing to note however, this lens cant safetly be held or strung from the camera body, (maybe slightly safer on magneseum alloy, but still) so carrying it is a bit difficult. I shoot with a monopod- strap connected to the nifty strap- bar, monopod and ballhead from lens mount, held from my neck with the front element facing down and the pod sticking forward.
the build quality is very nice, nice and solid-feeling. any way, if money matters, or even if it doesn't, this is the lens to get.!!!!!!

Comments about Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO Autofocus Lens:

i been using the lens for a couple weeks now and really like it so far. I read a ton of reviews on line regarding this lens and the 50-500 sigma and the sony 70-400 g. After researching all the options i decided that you couldnt beat the sigma 150-500mm for the price. Sure it starts at 150mm but didnt seem worth the extra 600 bucks to get the 50mm start. I have run into situations where it would be nice to have the 50-500 zoom range but i think the 150-500 is a good compromise and again you cant beat the price! The optics are great the bokeh is nice and i have got some really nice shots so far. As the other reviews state its not a great performer in low light situations. I feel that it does a good job in decent light and even in overcast situations. Not so great at dusk. The focus speed it ok, it would be nice if it was a little faster but not too bad. The lens hunts a little, maybe because there is no focus limiter but again not a deal breaker for me. The lens is big and takes a little while to get use too. Finish is nice although i do have a couple chips around the edge of the hood where the paint chipped a little. The finish on the lens body is holding up great. Overall im satisfied with the lens and think i made a good choice. If I wasn't on a tight budget i would have gone for the sony 70-400 G lens for faster focus, focus limiter, and better in low light situations.

Comments about Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO Autofocus Lens:

I have used the lens for wildlife photos so far. The zoom range is very good allowing shots of a few geese to a close up of one goose for example. The auto focus and stabalization even worked at dusk on my Sony alpha. I thought a monopod at least would be required, but got some great hand held shots. Short of a very expensive zoom lens, this is the best available in this zoom range I believe.

I use this lens for sports photography. Mostly for football. It has great range perfect for long distance shots. The autofocus is fast but it doesn't have a low enough aperture for sports at night.
