I got this for a April '09 Mac Pro with the Xeon 2.23 Ghz processor (apparently this IS a "nehalem" processor, which isn't clear from looking at the information the computer gives me). So far, it works great positioned about 15 yards from the wireless router (Verizon FIOS) located a floor above.
The only gripe is the lack of installation instructions, which I understood would be the case from my reviews of Mac discussion boards ahead of time. Turns out, it wasn't really that hard. You need to remove the processor deck (easy). The first hard part was getting the card in place with the antenna wires there - they tend to obstruct what you're doing. The screws were easy with the computer turned on its side. The hardest part was attaching the antenna wires. There are three of them and only two places to attach to the card. I read both that wires 1 and 3 and 2 and 3 are the ones to connect, and I went with 2 and 3 having found credible comments that 1 is for bluetooth. All in all, it took about 10 minutes to install, and that was being very careful and taking my time. Could probably do it in 5.
Software setup was easy and more than compensated for the difficulty with the little antenna connectors on the card. I'd rather struggle with mechanical things than software any day of the week, tyvm!

[...] to the designers at Apple who usually know better - shame on them for designing the placement and fitting of this Airport Express Card. Apple doesn't consider this card a DIY product but there's no reason why the card was so difficult to install on a machine that has so much open space inside. Hard drives are a breeze to install on a MAC Pro --- as are most add on video cards, but this required lots of time, patience and scraped knuckles.

Comments about Apple AirPort Extreme Card for Mac Pro (Early 2009 "Nehalem"):
Just another data point on which wires to install: I had installed it a couple weeks ago with wires 1 and 3, and it seemed to be working.
Then while doing downloads, and at other random times, the download speed would drop to zero, and often the Airport Extreme base station would just drop offline, taking all my other devices with it.
I removed wire 1, and connected wire 2 in its place (now 2 and 3 are connected) and everything seems much more stable and reliable.

Works perfectly in my Eight Core (Early 2009) 2.26 Mac Pro. Installation was a snap after finding the correct instructions which are from the Service Manual. Simply Plug it in, put the 2 screws in and then connect wires 1 and 3 for the antenna's Wire #2 is NOT USED. Tiny hands also help with the install. However, once installed, that's all there is to it. The Mac OS contains all the drivers needed to get it going and it's truly plug and play. This is an original Apple Part also just like B&H states in their description.

Comments about Apple AirPort Extreme Card for Mac Pro (Early 2009 "Nehalem"):
Apparently I voided my warranty by installing the card myself but, it was really easy and I managed to do it with no problems even after having a couple drinks with friends. I couldn't be happier with the product and when it comes to mac hardware its always a good idea to stay with official apple products.

this was incredibly hard to install. to be fair, it's not rated as a user-installable product. the wires that you have to connect onto the 'nubs' of the card are tiny, and it's a tight fit. be very careful installing. once connected, it worked flawlessly.

So happy to have wireless internet on my desktop.
Not the easiest to install, so if you're not tech savy I would not attempt it. if you are tech-savy, and have familiarity with electronic innards, go for it.

My MacPro 2009 8-core didn't come with an Airport Card. This unit fits the 2009 model exactly. I did the installation myself, not too hard, small hands is a plus with the installation process, so does a magnetic tip screw driver, preventing dropped screws onto the motherboard. The airport slot is located behind the RAM tray. Remove it first, and the airport slot is located on the left hand side of the space behind the RAM tray. There are three connectors labeled 1, 2, and 3. 1 is for bluetooth, 2 attaches to the top slot of the airport card (once it seated into the airport card slot), and cable 3 sits attaches to the bottom pins of the card. Once install, go to the System Preference and add the Airport interface under the Network option. Works great after adding to my home network.

Comments about Apple AirPort Extreme Card for Mac Pro (Early 2009 "Nehalem"):
Installation of this card should really only be attempted by those who are used to making modifications or expansions to computers that go beyond plug and play -- since I had previously installed a 3rd party processor upgrade in a mac G4 tower I was reasonably confident I would be able to handle it, but the real handicap is lack of installation instructions provided -- installer will need to search online and cobble together a reasonable set of guidelines from forums and the like. Still, if you manage to get it installed, you'll find it a rewarding process. based on my experience with a wireless card in a PPC tower, this airport extreme card is a HUGE speed upgrade. It made my existing wireless connection perform quicker and smoother.

Comments about Apple AirPort Extreme Card for Mac Pro (Early 2009 "Nehalem"):
Apple did not include wireless as standard for the Mac Pro 2009 models.
The cards are tiny mini PCI cards. B&H had the best price and I knew they
would send the real OEM Apple part.
It arrived and was installed in 20 minutes. On powering the machine back
up the wireless was immediately active and wanted to connect to available
wireless networks.
To sum it up, perfect product and performance from both Apple and B&H.

This card has worked great since the day I installed it. It took about 5-10 minutes to install, its small and hard to get the tiny screws in. I went with wires #2 and 3 like i've seen was recommended, and it works flawlessly now since I've gotten it

It is strange that the MacPro's dont already have wireless internet in them so adding this card to the computer allowed me to get wireless internet at my office. It's a little tricky to install (especially if you have big fingers) but I managed to install it myself no problem.

Works like a dream - no messing the that old "T" antenna. Apple says it isn't user installable, but it isn't that tough. The hardest part is dropping the tiny screws inside the box and connecting the snap on antenna leads.

Comments about Apple AirPort Extreme Card for Mac Pro (Early 2009 "Nehalem"):
I was surprised that my Mac Pro 2009 did not come with wi-fi connectivity built-in. This is the official Apple wifi-card and works great but it's difficult to install. The card sits on the mother board which is tucked way in the back of the aluminium chassis. You need a flashlight or tip the computer under light to install it. Also, the card comes with no instructions. Rather than pay an Apple tech to install it, I installed it with instructions posted on an internet site. The wires are small and noone seems to really know which two of the three wires need to be connected to the board. I settled the question myself by trying different combinations until I got the strongest signal (1&2). So that's my only beef-good product but awkward to install.
