The Kata Pro-Light Beetle-282 PL Backpack (Black) is a sleek, low profile on board professional backpack designed to provide the best traveling, storage and working solutions. The pack is made from lightweight, durable Ripstop nylon and polyester mesh exterior, with a TST (Thermo Shield Technology) rib structure that provides protective zones for the camera where it will most likely be impacted by shock, vibration and Aeriform foam that is made of perforated super light laminated and reinforced EVA and EPE foams. It is also has additional protection from a specially formed, foam encased, spring steel Spine Guard and Honeycomb rigid panels that are formed and shaped. The Yelloop interior is a bright yellow material for viewing the contents with ease and attaching any optional Modi-Vers dividers. The modular interior allows removal of various components that are not necessary for a specific shoot.
The Pro-Light Beetle-282 PL backpack opens from behind and the camera gear within is secured by a full zippered flap which also sports flat storage pockets. This flap can be fully or partially opened according to need. The main compartment will hold a large amount of gear such as; 2 to 3 D-SLR camera bodies with 4-6 lenses (up to 300 mm), flash and many other photo accessories. The pack is partitioned with modular Aeriform dividers. Along the back panel is a full length, top access, Elasto-Guard 17" laptop pocket and thanks to the rear opening and securing gear flap, it is possible to simply open the backpack and pass it through airport security scans without removing the laptop from it's compartment. Travel documents and personal effects can be stored in the 4 flat external pockets along the sides. Sneak-a-peek name tag holder is a discreetly located name tag that pulls out when identification is required.
The Beetle Backpack has a tripod sling that can be attached to either the front or the side of the backpack and a detachable Double-sided Elements Cover with mesh pocket that is used for protection in all weather and environment conditions. There is an Aeriform camera strap which is light, flexible and airy that can be used individually or interconnected to the two designated loops on the backpack harness. The pack has an advanced ergonomics harness system that consists of a Gecko Harness made of molded EVA foam harness straps that has 3D tapered thickness. Micro hatch texture secures it in position firmly and comfortably and its shapely contour fits the body organically, a soft molded 3D foam back for comfort, support and ventilation and a Clinch-Clasp Sternum Strap that has an Aluminum clinch connection. It also consists of an adjustable and removable waist belt that will fit itself perfectly to a photographer's shape and build, 2 specially designed connection strap loops for the included Aeriform camera strap and an EPH (Ergonomic Photo System) that is designed with connection tabs to enable using other Kata products. There is an Insertrolley connection for placing the pack over a rolling bag handle; when this is in use the harness tucks out of the way and waist belt can be removed and stowed away.

Travel bag for 17" computer and Canon 7D and 40D. Fits alot of gear. Comfortable for short hikes. Sholder straps can get a little uncomfortable on long days. But all in all a good bag.

Product will be used as intended--transporting digital photo equipment along with notebook computer and personal gear on aircraft.
Product makes good use of lightweight but strong materials. Basic structural design is sound.
Partition set has very limited flexibility; the mod kits are necessary to truly customize.
Upper part of camera compartment lacks fabric that would enable installation of partitions there.
Total dimensions are right on the borderline for carry-on airline baggage; may not make the passenger compartment on smaller aircraft.
No stabilizer strap on hip belt.
I would recommend with reservations.

Comments about Kata Pro-Light Beetle-282 PL Backpack:
I use this backpack for multiple and diverse things. For my professional video camera, a Sony HVR-Z7U and everything needed. Or when I travel with my canon eos 7d with lenses and my handycam canon vixiaHV30; or even for my daily life as a dancer and teacher that I need my computer, dancing clothes, my BOSE soundock system for my Ipod.
Its perfect to put everything I need, take my bike and go to work.
Another excelent use is for airflight travelling, you can put all your important equipment to carry onboard.
The great thing is that its totally adaptable to all needs and its extremely light and at the same time resistant and strong enough to protect electronics.
Its very comfortable due to the fact that it melts with your back and the weight is evenly distributed in the shoulders, the chest and the hips. The gecko straps really adapt to your torso.
Really the best back pack ever.
Thank you KATA

Comments about Kata Pro-Light Beetle-282 PL Backpack:
I have 3 lenses and 3 camera bodies and I still have a lot of room for other equipment. it's nice to be able to have all of my equipment with me and room for any extra things that I may need. It's a little on the heavy side and a little bit uncomfortable around your shoulder blades but if you want something to be able to have everything you need in one spot i would recommend it.
