I'm using this scanner to archive my football images from the last days of film. I have always used Nikon scanners as they were specific to 35mm and I never had good luck with flatbeds in general unless it was medium format or 4x5. This little guy really does a nice job BUT... You have to make it scan twice and use the iSRD feature. If you do those two things, it rivals the best scans I've seen on the Coolscan units of five years ago, anyway.
REAL LIFE SCANNING TIME is right at 5 minutes per image at 3600 dpi setting, which isn't bad when you figure how little post manipulation you need to do in Photohop after the fact...
The main reson I bought this model was the LED light source (my old coolscan bulb alone cost more that this guy), and the fact that it comes with Silverfast scanning software, which I've used in the past.

Where do I begin? I'll make one thing easy enough for a caveman: hardware good – software bad. That's the only easy thing so far. I can't say anything negative about the scanner itself because I've hardly gotten to use it. Getting to the scanner requires the use of software that is frustrating at best. To put it bluntly, the SilverFast SEPlus software by LaserSoft Imaging was written by geeks for geeks. These guys are so immersed in their World of Geekcraft that they've forgotten how to speak to normal people. They toss around obscure, esoteric jargon as if all their customers were engineers suckled on the teat of technology. I've been a photographer for 36 years and I have 14 years experience with digital equipment and software so I consider myself to be an advanced user, but much of this was beyond me.This software firm is out of Keil, Germany (best known for making U-boats) and to add to the complexity of their geek speak is the woeful inadequacy of the translation from German, both in the program interface as well as documentation. If there's one thing that burns every good American it's when these big foreign firms cheap out on using a decent translator. It's as if they wrote everything in German and then used Google Translator to convert it... click on sie Deutsch? [*].My angst began right away with the "Quick Guide"—which is the size of a roadmap of Asia because they want to include every human dialect on it. Some of the teeny-tiny illustrations attempt to show you how a color change works—only they have it printed it in black & white! Well actually a muddy mix of gray tones. Brilliant huh? Maybe it was originally in color but then someone decided to save a few Euros at the expense of clarity. There's even typos in the program itself—version 6 no less. Misspelled words like "sensivity" may not seem like such a crime but it shows a level of sloppiness and lack of quality control on the part of LaserSoft. I've got a 23" LED monitor and the control features are very hard to read. The little airplane icon in the ScanPilot feature reminds me of a Messerschmitt. The built-in links to Quicktime mini-movies are nice and shed some light into the darkness that is SilverFast. I could go on and on but I think you get the point. I'm not doubting that this software can't do what I need it to, it's just that it has a very, very steep learning curve. Steep like the dive of a Stuka dive bomber in full attack with sirens blaring.

Comments about Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE Scanner:
Been using it for few weeks now and should say that I'm happy with it. Few things that would make it a 5 star scanner(for the money) would be a VueScan software included with it(Silverscan went to the garbage on day two)and film holder could be designed a little better. I was looking for dedicated 35mm scanner and I think it is really good scanner, it is small fast and does the job well. If you looking to get one, get SE (not Ai) and VueScan software.

Comments about Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE Scanner:
I have scanned over 200 slides so far and have been very happy. I still need to master the enhancement features, but most slides turn out as good as the original or better. Some slides were over 40 years in hiding. The software was a little hard to setup, but if you read carefully, even several times, you should be able to do it.

Comments about Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE Scanner:
Converting most of my B&W and slides to digital. High quality is desired only on a few pictures, so using it in a low res most of the time to save time and space. Did a few color slides and films with decent quality, but impressed with B&W range. Can get much better picture out of a bad negative due to contrast and light adjustment options that were not available on paper. I choose this model based on advice from a pro and am not disappointed.

Comments about Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE Scanner:
Bought this scanner for one contract, then expect to throw away. Build is excellent. Have done only 450 slide transfer/edits but experienced no mechanical problems.Software however is awful. It is inconsistent, unrepeatable with no workarounds. Second scan of same slide usually differs widely - major haze and color cast problem - no response to input commands - other deeply embedded faults.Impossible to get a usable image without post editing in PhotoShop CS or other powerful programs.[...]

Comments about Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE Scanner:
This is a well-built, easy to use scanner that runs cool and quiet. I decided to buy it because I was not getting the results I wanted using a flatbed scanner, and also because of the price - I chose the Silverfast SE version and am happy with that. I can get very detailed scans from my slides and negs. I am also planning to use the scanner on 8mm and 16mm movie film and needed a technical question answered. The Plustek tech support guy was very knowledgable about the inner workings of the scanner and took time to make sure I had an optimized software set-up and workflow.

Comments about Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE Scanner:
I've been using this scanner for a couple weeks now and have scanned my large stack of 35mm slides and working on my pile of 35mm film negatives (color and b/w). So far I've scanned about 400 images.
The great thing is that I can do this while doing other work on my computer (I'm scanning as I write this now). When I find a snapshot I really like, I bump up the resolution for a good quality scan that I can blow up to poster size if I want.
The majority of what I am scanning are old family photo's that I want to preserve in digital format. The film is 30+ years old and is starting to deteriorate, so saving it now is important to me. Yes, I could have sent it out to a service, but I would not have that hands one ability to save higher resolution shots that are really important to me.
I was pleased to learn it came with it's own carrying case so I can easily take it to my brothers home to scan some of his 35mm slides too. Bonus!

Comments about Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE Scanner:
I'm scanning slides & negatives taken in years gone by. Having them sit in a box is of no value. Great to revive old memories and share them with friends and family in the pics.
However, this is a very time consuming process. Overall 4-5 min per pic depending on the settings. Nice to have 2 displays and watch movies on the 2'nd.
The included SilverFast software has on occasion crashed on my iMac which FEW other apps have done. The plustek front buttons are non functional with Mac OS. Color adjustment can be tricky, sometimes required for each image.
IR dust and scratch removal works well on color only, must be turned off for B&W negatives or artifacts are created.

I can now eliminate boxes of 35mm slides that I have had for years. They will be digital and shown on my TV. Scanners in the past that did a good job were much to expensive. My wife will now stop telling me to get rid of the #@%& slides.
The scans are slow but I want quality that the scanner can provide.

I tried the cheap copiers and they have lousy resolution and give meaning to the expression "you get what you pay for". I would recommend this copier to anyone wanting to make serious duplications of their slides.

I have a large library of old slides and I needed to make prints of some of them. The scanner works well, but is slow and the Silverfast takes a while to get used to. The
AI version might be better in spending less time with color balance...
The first scanner that I received failed to properly scan, but the replacement works well.

Comments about Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE Scanner:
I purchased this machine to digitize my old film library. besides the Hardware which performs well. This machine would not be half of what it is without the excellent software bundle. The silverfast software does an excellent job of color correction, and slide restoration. The scratch removal tool is second to non. I have tried more expensive machines and this combo of infrared scratch detection and photo restoration is just amazing!! My only complaint is the slide cartridge doesn't advance automatically. So scanning scores of photos takes time.

I used this to digitize and "clean-up" slides for transfer to and use in a video documentary. The scanner creates a bright image and the scanner software does a very good job of removing unwanted artifacts (dust, scratches) and provides a vibrant color, depth-filled finished product.
Some reviews have cited difficulty in loading the slides. I did not experience this problem. The slide holder worked perfectly.

I bought the scanner to convert our many old slides to a format our children could share. It does produce great images, and does a remarkable job eliminating dust and lint from the image. My times will improve some with practice, but right now a tray of 4 slides is taking about 20 minutes to scan. The included software is very versatile and capable, but again requires time to work. Great scanner if you have the time!

Comments about Plustek OpticFilm 7600i SE Scanner:
I have old slides which are in good shape taken with a 35 mm through the lens camera and have great clarity when shown through a projector onto a screen. I have tried to digitalize only 3 but they are all grainy when enlarged to fill up the computer screen. I do not know what to do as I am not very computer literate. I have not dealt with software applications so this is confusing.
