The Pearstone 82mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood is designed to fit lenses with a 82mm filter thread. The hood is designed for use with internal focus type zoom lenses. When used with "full frame" sensor cameras, the starting focal length should be above 20mm. With "APS-C" sensor cameras, the starting focal length should be above 15mm. With wider lenses, especially on full frame cameras, some slight vignetting might occur. The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage with the minimum amount of weight and hood area.
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens, by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
Note! Since this hood is designed to snap onto the filter threads of the lens, use of a lens cap will no longer be possible.

Comments about Pearstone 82mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood:
I bought the Pearstone 82mm snap on Tulip Lens hood as a replacement for my Sigma 24-70mm lens. Whe I initially opened the lens and tried to put it on the lens I thought it didn't fit because it would not fit "over" the lens. I was ready to send it back to B&H whe I thought I'd try it again, then voila! I realized the hood fits "inside" the lens! It actually affixes to the threading inside the lens like a lens filter. Once i figured that out I was good to go. It does the job, however don't bump it or hit it with any force because it will pop off. I would prefer teh original Sigma lens hood that screws on over the lens but I dont knwo where to get one, But for the price this will have to do...for now!

Comments about Pearstone 82mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood:
I have all my lenses with setup rings for 77mm specifically for my variable ND filter which has an outer filter thread size of 82mm. Finding shade for this darn filter was a pain, so I purchased this cheap and easy to remove hood to fix the problem. Does vignetting on wide angle lenses, but works great for my 50mm prime. Lens capping it is hard, but you can't really store the camera in any convention bag with the hood installed anyways (it's huge!) Can't even take a camera off a fluid head without first removing it.

Comments about Pearstone 82mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood:
I lost the original hood for my Canon 24mm tilt shift lens. This was the lens listed as an accessary for that lens on B&H.
Since ordering this I did find the original hood from another vendor.
I plan to keep this as a spare.
The one con - my hands are small & so it is difficult to snap this hood in place. One pro - it snaps to the front of any filters.

Comments about Pearstone 82mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood:
I used this lens hood at a wedding after I lost the original hood that came with my 82mm f/2.8 lens. It was very easy to snap on and off and it did the trick. I only wish I could sit it on the lens backwards when storing the lens in the bag.

Bot this in place of the Sigma cover to save $10. Not a great choice--when storing it it isn't secure and is wider that the factory lens hood. I'm returning it and buying the original.

Comments about Pearstone 82mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood:
It would be nice if it fit the lens in reverse for storage. Lens cap won't fit with the hood attached. If the front of your lens turns while focusing the hood turns with it. Hence the 4 stars.
Still better than a $50 rubber hood.
