Designed to fit the lifestyle of any family, the radios feature a wireless range of up to 16 miles. The radios have 22 selectable channels, each with 38 privacy codes to ensure clear communication. Motorola's exclusive Quiet Talk function eliminates interference from radios made by other manufacturers to provide more clear channels.
Each radio features a sturdy built-in antenna and a power/volume knob, as well as a clip for convenient attachment to clothing. A handy LCD screen shows what channel you're tuned to, and how much battery life is left. Each radio has a rechargeable NiMH battery pack that provides a long lifespan. A dual drop-in charger is included, allowing you to charge both radios simultaneously.

I bought those radios to play with my kids and to find them in near area from my place. But I`ve found out that is the same unit that the security team from my building are using. And they are very satisfied with that. So, you can play and work professionally with that!

Comments about Motorola MC220R Talkabout 2-Way Communication Radios (Pair):
I lead a group of students on an educational field studies tour to Washington D.C. and New York in June. I have 1 adult mentor for each 4 students. I have all the adults use walkie talkies to allow us to be in instant communication with each other which allow for us to keep the group together. They also make it possible for us to stay organized and helps to expedite our travels which makes it possible for us to see and learn more. These offer the best bang for the buck! They are easy to use and have great clarity. We always carry AA batteries along as a back up plan because some of our days are very long (12 hours touring) and if we have been using the radios a lot the rechargeable batteries won't last the whole day. In the past I have had the adults bring their own walkie talkies to use but now most people have cell phones and not so many have the walkie talkies. Cell phones don't allow for us all to hear each other at the same time. Plus some of the adults don't have a plan that is economical for them to use their phones on the east coast or they don't even have service there. Amoung the different models of walkie talkies the adults have used over the years, none have compared to the Motorolas. There have been times when we are touring a site where it is noisy and it's difficult to hear the guide who is trying to explain what it is we are seeing. We have had the guide speak into a walkie talkie while our adult mentors are stationed throughout the group of students with their radios on so the students can hear (like portable mini speakers). If they can't hear well they get bored and don't pay attention, thus they don't learn as much.

I bought two sets (four units) of the walkie talkies for my staff and I to communicate at work. We have three buildings, two parking lots and a tight budget. We couldn't afford cell phones for everyone, so this was my solution. It works out great and has improved our efficiency. The range covers our entire campus with clear sound. I'm thrilled, and the staff is too. My one problem is that the battery life isn't what I'd like for the chargers. I may switch to traditional batteries.

I buy these for my Caribbean cruise trip where the mobil phone don't work (unless you pay extra for international roaming!)
I used them onboard the cruise ship and when I do the shore excursion. They work well keep me get in touch with my kid. They work in the short range but it's OK with me

I use these radios the hotel I work at and they are the best yet. The reception is clear and the batteries last for days. I am trying to get management to buy two sets for rest of staff.
