The Pearstone 58mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood is designed to fit lenses with a 58mm filter thread. The hood is designed for use with internal focus type zoom lenses. When used with "full frame" sensor cameras, the starting focal length should be above 20mm. With "APS-C" sensor cameras, the starting focal length should be above 15mm. With wider lenses, especially on full frame cameras, some slight vignetting might occur. The "petal" shape of this lens hood maximizes the amount of hood coverage with the minimum amount of weight and hood area.
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens, by extending and shading the end of the lens. In addition, since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.
Note! Since this hood is designed to snap onto the filter threads of the lens, use of a lens cap will no longer be possible.

These Pearstone hoods are about the best of the plastic clip-on varieties that can be found in various circles (on-line sites, specialty stores, etc.). They appear to be quality made and it is obvious that some care was taken during their design and manufacturing.
The "However" part comes into play because of the fact that they can cause substantial vignetting - and I'm not talking about the tulip hood part, but rather the depth (thickiness) of the base portion that clips on to the lens.
I ordered two of the Pearstone 58 MM lens hoods and after clipping them on to the camera barrels in question, I disappointingly discovered that in both cases the vignetting was quite severe. Of course, I had filters on both lenses (cameras), but they were of the ultra-thin Hoya Pro 1 type. I even took off the filters but the hoods still vignetted to some degree.
If the base (where it attaches) was not as deep (thick), then less vignetting (or none) would result.
So buyers should be beware that although this is a quality hood, if you happen to have a filter attached to your lens - and you then attach these Pearstone hoods, significant vignetting could be the result. And even without filters, vignetting may or may not occur on some lenses, in particular, the wider angle lenses (even the 28 MM variety).

The lens hood is simple to put on and remove. It fits nicely inside the threaded extension where normally your filters would screw on. But the exterior of the hood is larger in diameter than the lens I bought it for the EFS 18-55mm. It still looks okay. The center seems to be to small for the lens cover. I have to remove the hood to cover the lens.

Comments about Pearstone 58mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood:
Started off by putting it on wrong and getting shadow in my test pictures, once I got it on right it worked very well. The few pictures I have taken in the sunlight have turned out well. It's a nice on/off unit. Practice with it a few times to get the muscle memory working and it will do well for you.

Comments about Pearstone 58mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood:
I gave this 3 stars because it doesn't stay on very well. It's a clip-on. You don't screw it onto your lense so it will fall off when you bump it onto something. For wide-angles (18mm) you will see a vignette but you can fix it by rotating the hood. This is more of an annoyance than anything. Overall I give it a 3 cause it gets the job done.

24mm USM lens itself has subtle vignetting, but I can live with that. This hood provides very visible vignetting in the corners. Not acceptable.

It doesn't worth it's price. It appears in my photos, like a frame of shadow in the edges. [...]I don't recommend this model. Buy another one.

This product is great for indoor shooting with minimal light. I'm able to focus my flash on the subject matter. I love this. I have no complaints.

Comments about Pearstone 58mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood:
It can be used on this lense but is finicky to put on. You need to grasp the two ends and release it onto the filter treads. Cannot be reverse mounted for storage on the lens. It's very cumbersome to handle.

Comments about Pearstone 58mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood:
I use this product on a Canon T2i (550D) and it functions exactly as you would expect it to. The only issues to be aware of:
* It will not work with low-profile lens filters (like a UV Filter) as it needs a rim to snap on to.
* If your lens' focus ring is on the end of the lens then the hood will rotate with auto-focus operations!
Neither of these is a drawback to the product, just things to be aware of when purchasing.
The fit is very snug and secure: it does not appear at all likely to come loose.

Bought this for my sister's Canon Rebel XS with the 18-55mm lens and was very disappointed.
I was looking forward to the tulip but, was very disappointed when I snapped it on and then realized that the lens cap wouldn't fit, too.
The snap-on idea is nice but not ideal for us.

Comments about Pearstone 58mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood:
This is a really nice lens shade. The only caveat is that the lens should be an internal focus lens, otherwise the tulip with rotate as the lens focuses and vignette your image if your not careful about the hood's orientation.

Very good but if you are taking pictures using a 18-55mm cannon EF lenses you can see part of the hood if you are in 18mm (all zooned out).

This is a snap on rather than screw on. Comes off quite easily - a bit to easily. Every now ant then I bump it against something and knock it off. Otherwise, well made and works fine.

Comments about Pearstone 58mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood:
Snaps onto lens easily, and stays put. Adds extra protection to the face of my lens if I ever drop it.
Only thing I don't like is that the two longer pieces appear in photos if I don't zoom in a little bit, but it could be used as a harsh vignette.

I used the Snap on Tulip Lens Hood during a wedding shoot & hope to use it much more. It is easy to snap on the lens or a lens filter, if you use filters. Much faster & less trouble than the threaded lens hoods. You can change out the hood as fast as you change lenses.

This lens hood could not be easier to clip on and take off. It works like a lens cap, just squeeze and position. I also liked that it comes off if knocked hard, and doesn't damage the lens.

Comments about Pearstone 58mm Snap-on Tulip Lens Hood:
The price of this item isn't indicative of it's quality. This lens hood goes on easy, fits great, works great and is quite durable as I've regrettably dropped it a few times but the tulip came out unscathed. Great item. Worth every penny.
