Originally I was planning on getting the Sony A500, but due to budget restrictions I opted for Nikon D3000. There is obviously a multitude of difference in the two, so I will concentrate on the things I dig about the camera. The display in the view finder is awesome; it contains the F stop, shutter speed, light meter, and manual focus dot. The display on the body of the camera lets you really zoom in to the photos that you have already take to ensure great clarity, great for chimping (check every photo after you shoot). The color reproduction is ok, but if you shoot in RAW (which the camera offers) you can bring out great color in post production. The startup time is pretty quick, but if you're shooting action just leave the camera on. Now the things that bug me, NO AE bracketing, NO live view (which I hate anyway). Most dlsr cameras have a video mode, but it's a CAMERA not a camcorder, so for me it's not a big deal. The cam is pretty light, the battery holds a great charge and over all the camera is pretty easy to use. Nikon even added a programmable function button (I have it set to change the iso on the fly). They also added a bunch of in camera edit functions, which I never touch but there still there. It's probably the closest thing to a film camera out there at a very great price. A word of warning BUY A GOOD LENSE.

Worked just like new. worked very good. This is my first digital SLR and I am now wondering why I did not switch earlier. However, the manual states that some of my manual lenses would work with this camera so far I have not figured out how to do this. Cannot use old flashes without volotage reduction adapters. some new speedlights do not support all functions.

Love, Love, Love this camera! I got it refurbished from the used store and had some questions so I called in to get help. Between the awesome, helpful store clerk who was extremely knowledgeable about his stock and the awesome availability for the extras~this was the best Christmas present EVER! I think there have been over 500 pictures taken already! Thanks B&H I will only ever get my cameras, accessories and digital electronics from you guys! You ROCK! The camera takes great pictures and the accessability to get them online is so easy. The camera is so responsive and takes gorgeous pictures. I have nothing bad to say so far. My son's girlfriend takes pictures of people, skylines, pets, moving pictures, staged pictures and they all come out awesome! Can't wait to give the other one I bought to my youngest...Her 16th will be the best yet! The price was unbeatable and all the extras round it out nicely! I can't brag enough about the ease of the website mixed in with the help and knowledge of the clerk! What an amazing experience that just keeps giving!

I am currently using the camera for my photography class. I used to only know how to operate a film SLR camera until I received my Nikon D3000. I did not really have to read the manual to figure out how to use it. It takes great quality photos!

This was a purchase for our daughter and son-in-law, who had a "pocket" camera, but weren't happy with the shots they were getting. Of course we tried it out to "be sure it worked!" We loved the sketch option, and the pictures are sharp. It has a soft focus built in (no more lost filters), and it fits both their hands. We also love that future purchases could be to add a battery pack that isn't too bulky. Needless to say, its a great camera!

What I enjoy most about this camera are the many different settings you can easily adjust to get the shot just right. One user might change the iso, another may find it quicker to adjust the flash, while another may fine-tune the exposure. The instruction manual is very simple to understand and once I learned some of the D3000's features, I was testing it out on the street and in the woods. I'm still learning the art of photography but I've been very pleased with the results from this camera. I upgraded to a refurbished D3000 from a Fuji S700 point & shoot and I can finally get the shots I want. It doesn't have live view on the LCD but it's not needed. The viewfinder coverage is 95% and you can review your photos and settings on the LCD. Settings can also be seen through the viewfinder. I can go on with more positive points about this camera but to sum up, it's a great intro (for me) to DSLR, there are many lenses to choose from, and the D3000 seems like it could accommodate photographers of any skill level, rookies to pros.

For my first DSLR camera, I am blown away by this Nikon D3000! I got it refurbished, and it feels practically new! The photo quality is brilliant, the user ease is fantastic, and the feel of the camera is so natural. I highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for their first DSLR. It doesn't take video, which is fine by me, so if you want to do video as well as photos then upgrade to the D3100. However, if you are like me and just want a simple camera that takes pictures...the D3000 is wonderful!

i am a film student who just bought a refurbished nikon d3000. it is the first SLR i've ever had, and for the most part i am incredibly happy with it. being a poor college student money was a factor in picking a camera and also why i got a refurb, but this has turned out to be a good beginner, general camera. i bought the camera right before leaving for several different countires this summer, so i have only gotten to use it for travel photography so far, but i have played around with some of the settings and expect it to be. my only complaint is that the screen is kind of small and you dont always get an accurate view of the pictures you've taken, but its still not such a huge deal.

We bought this camera for our teenage daughter. She has enjoyed learning all of the many attributes of this great camera. I have the Nikon D40 (also purchased at B&H) and now the two of us will be sharing our knowledge and even taking a class together! [...] This camera was the perfect choice. It has many, many features yet is not too complicated for a beginner.

I own a D700 and I've bought/returned the D7000 recently as well (didn't need it). The D3000 was a gift for my brother who is just getting into photography again. The controls were fairly good for him, though the camera was a bit small for my liking. Also the dials were menu-driven half the time, which would slow me down if I was using it. However, all this aside, the image quality was more than adequate and very nice photos have come out of it. Price wise, you can't go wrong ...

The D 3000 is the perfect camera for those who want a powerful and versatile camera at a low price. It has all the professional features but is simple enough to be used by anyone so you don't have to be a professional to take great pictures. It actually has a guide function that guides you trough the camera settings. It has 7 scenarios and 4 manual options so you control as much a you want and the camera dose the rest for you. The vibration reduction is good but it's not enough when taking pictures in the dark. In order to take good pictures a tripod is required.
