Comments about Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for Windows (Upgrade from Premiere Pro 1.x/2.0/CS3/CS4):
Finally, a WINTEL based video editing application that can take full advantage of all the horsepower under the hood! We've waited patiently for many years for both Adobe and the PC hardware manufacturers to reach the point where video editing could become truly fast, glitch free and painless. Premiere Pro CS5 is a monumental upgrade as its new Mercury Engine takes full advantage of multi-core processors, 64 bit memory addressing and the GPU cores of Invidia graphics cards through CUDA technology.
No more need to rely upon expensive add on cards from third party vendors who are slow to support changes in your video editing program or who want to extract lots of $$ when its time to upgrade. Adobe has always been very fair to their loyal customers about the cost of upgrades.
I find ability to directly drop Sony XDCAM-EX clips on the timeline without transcoding is a huge plus.
The only dissapointments are external. Gone is the slick packaging and printed manual. Since jumping from V.1.0 to CS5 there have been many changes and updates to learn and accessing electronic the version of the manual is a pain. You really need to either have a huge monitor with sufficient desktop or use a second computer to display the manual, perhaps a laptop in your lap?
Remember, CS5 is a 64 bit application. If you are upgrading from CS4 or below you also need to upgrade your computer. Check the hardware compatibility lists before you do. You want to provide a graphics card that will permit Premiere to work its GPU based magic.

Along with the Nvidia Quadro FX 3800 card and a 64 bit Win 7 computer this upgrade is totally worth it as there is a clear gain in speed and playback.
