Sometimes, even the smallest things mean alot. I'm new to the HDSLR world but it didn't take long to realize that to shoot video with these cameras you have to have lots of stuff hanging off your camera to work well. This little hot shoe adapter allows me to attach a number of devices to the top of my 5DM2. In particular, I purchased it to use with my Zoom H4N audio recorder.
Not much else to say other than it worked.

This was bought to use with the zoom H1. I found the product to be very well made and easy to use. The only issue I found is really with the H1. When screwing the adapter into the threads on the H1, the threads seem too tight and the adapter feels like it gets stuck before fully screwing into the zoom. The zoom is very cheap plastic so I was very concerned with breaking the H1. If you are very careful and don't force the adapter to fit all the way it works fine. Just be cautious not to over tighten.

This has large black steel wheels for the larger handed person. Strong and a bit heavy but worth every penny. You should own at least 2 of these in your arsenal just in case.

Some reviews gave me concern that some of these adapters might not fit my new Canon EOS Rebel T3i, but it worked like a charm. Simple and solid piece of hardware. I bought it to mount a small digital recorder on top of my camera for movie work, and it's just what I wanted.

The product description is misleading. It is nothing to do with 3/8" adapter. It's just a 'cold' hot shoe adapter to 1/4". It is made entirely of aluminium. The 2 thumb wheels are for securing to a hot shoe at the bottom and 1/4" tripod hole at the top. The thumb wheels avoid accessories become wobbly when attached. The function of this item is to avoid wear and tear to your plastic hot shoe accessories e.g. off-cam cable or to use an accessories only with tripod mount but without a hot shoe e.g. mic. Functions as intended.

I own a Sony PCMD50 that has absolutely wonderful sound capture abilities. I also have the Sony HDR-AX2000 camera that has wonderful video, but not great audio (bottom end is lacking more than anything). This hot shoe adapter works perfectly to mount the PCMD50 to the hot shoe of the camera. Seems VERY sturdy and well built. I leave it on there if nothing is attached just to keep the metal in the hot shoe from rattling while I'm moving around. Only problem (not the hot shoes fault) is that having the PCM recorder mounted makes it impossible to move the small LCD from open to closed or vice-verse. If it was a little taller, what wouldn't be a problem. But for the money, I'm completely satisfied!

I use the hot shoe to attach my sound recorder to my Canon 5D-Mark II. The sound recording of the camera is ok for natsound but not for interviews so I bought an external one. I hated to carry so much stuff around and this tiny little piece made my work easier.

I bought this adapter because I have a couple of Zoom HV1 recorders which only mount to a tripod mount and I want to put them on top of the camera. This little item does the job quite nicely. I like the fact that it is metal rather than plastic. The thumb screws can clamp down tightly on the hot shoe and there is no wobble.

I use this unit to mount my Zoom H4N to my Cannon DSLR 550D. It definitely get's the job done. You may want to ad a washer to it however, when using it with the Zoom, to avoid over tightening and stripping away the paint and backing of the Zoom.

Used to mount Zoom H1 onto Canon 5D2 - works perfectly - threads on H1 needed a little work to get it to screw on correctly, but the 1/4" threads are the proper spacing (20). Very secure.

A handy little accessory for DSLR video shooting. The uses are endless but I use it with the HN4 Zoom audio recorder when the rig is on a tripod.
